Past Joys
It’s kind of been a dull day, and that makes for dull writing. But, pictures always spice things up, right? And joyous things are great to read about. Here’s a dose of both!
One event I always look forward to each summer (besides pickled eggs and fresh tomatoes) is the Curwensville Day Parade. My hometown (Curwensville) hosts a week-long festival with entertainment such as Kathy’s School of Dance, the Fiddler’s Contest, the Clearfield Community Band, and more. The highlight is Saturday night’s Fireman’s parade. This year, the fire trucks and candy tossing was a bit damp at first, but then it dried up and only the Shriner with the snake remained to get us wet.
A week ago, Little Miss got to be the flower girl at the wedding of two dear friends. I was the guest book attendant, which seemed fitting, as the happy couple met in my English class. What a wonderful day it was!
In addition to being the wedding, last Saturday was also Hunter’s 18th birthday. He had a friend over, and we grilled out the most delicious steaks ever. Really. And the cake wasn’t bad either.
Happy Birthday to a sharp-dressed man. Er, to Hunter!Sunday, a friend surprised him with a surprise party. The guys in attendance acted like guys, which was wonderful–Ultimate Frisbee, barefoot and shirtless soccer, and basketball in the pool.
And I never did show you my most wonderful cabin. I’d take them again in a heartbeat.

AAAAAAHHHHHH! An emoticon!!!! AAAAAAHHHHH! Of course, the “me likes it” didn’t phase. Argot for intended effect. And the three exclamation points, well, sometimes ya need ‘em.
I like the little “slice of Mary’s life”. It’s fun to catch up!
Your comment to SpazzyMommy made me grin.
^ It made Spazzymommy grin too.
Mary, honest- I can diagram sentences with the best of ‘em.
So much good stuff! I love the shot of you all under the shelter at the parade. Rain-washed colors in such lovely light!
My, that’s one gorgeous little flower girl. Truly. I bet she stole a few hearts on that day! And that’s a dashing 18yr old son you have. Sounds like his party was a ton of fun. He must have very good friends.
I like the shot of you and your cabin…I like the shade of blue in their shirts.
Have you read Firefly Lane? I’m listening to the audio book right now. It traces 2 best friends from middle school in the 70′s…their lives really diverge at about age 24, but they remain close. I’m about 85% of the way through the book and they are in their 40′s now. The author has woven all the pop culture of the times…fashion, music, etc. into the story. I think you might enjoy it for a light read.
It all looks fun! We went to a wedding Sat, too. Cool that this couple met in your class.
Little Miss looked lovely….happy b’day, a little late, to Hunter!
That was a good post. I am going back through catching up on things I missed. Pickled eggs? What are those? How do you make them? Why are they a treat in summer? Happy anniversary, and happy birthday to Hunter. Was he playing COLLEGE ultimate frisbee?
Little Miss looks very pretty too! I wonder what kind of online English class is this? What grades?
