  • Hold the Fort, for I Am Posting

This year, Little Miss and I didn’t do many field trips. Actually, we only did one: a combo trip to a cheese farm and to Fort Roberdeau.

Fort Roberdeau (pronounced Robe-uh-dough, I think) was built during the Revolutionary War to protect the settlers in the area from being killed by Indians and British. It also protected the lead smelting works.  The original fort rotted away or whatnot, and it was rebuilt in 1976 for a touch of history.

Little Miss was too busy running around with her friends and carrying LogCabinLady’s littlest one around to want to pose for pictures, so I had fun and just took shots for the sheer joy of it.

I bet I’d just go crazy at Williamsburg.   If they’d let me. And, if I ever got there.

In other news, a friend from England comes to visit us in less than two weeks. That’s spiffy. Wit wants a haircut, which is sort of like saying that a cat wants a bath.   TGD is off filming his first week of Teaching Company Algebra 1 lectures, and it’s going very well.  He takes particular pride in getting the total time of the lesson on 30 minutes exactly, not 29 minutes and 54 seconds (or whatnot).  Gockle is trying to talk his brother into sharing their bedroom with the 7th grade classroom python this summer. (Yes, a snake, a 2 foot snake.) So far, Wit is not buying it. I think he’s more of a Ravenclaw man.

  • Nice to see you posting again. :) I’m still on posting/reading/hiatus mostly. I read a little now and then. I still do love your blog. :)

  • What you didn’t post the lovely cheese factory pictures of the “special hats”?  My girls are still using them.  And if you have any vote on the snake, I’d urge a no.  I’d rather have 10 dogs than one snake.  Actually no dogs and no snakes might be preferable.  One of the meat chickens died today.  Very sad.  Surprisingly the kiddos didn’t have to host a funeral like they did for the very premature baby birds whose mother picked a very bad spot for her nest (on the side of the cabin about 8 feet up).  Well I’ll stop procrastinating and go fight with the dishwasher.  Blessings today!

  • Lovely shots. I always enjoy these history outings more than the kids. Sometimes I think schooling is a bit of a waste until you hit at least 30! Then the true interest kicks in.

  • @logcabinlady -

I don’t have much objection to the snake. And you should read the letter. Actually, I’m going to email it to you.

  • I really like the photos and your whole post in general.  Always fun!  Wish me luck as I get in front of the cameras for the fourth day this week!  I am definitely not quitting my “day job”.

    Love!

  • This reminds me of Fort Bedford, which is in Bedford, PA — used to be our home town. Great Stuff for school.

  • I think I would have been a Ravenclaw or a Hufflepuff. Of course, I’d have loved to have the bravery of a Griffendor, but I just wasn’t a rule-breaker.
