No Time to Stand and Stare
Leisure
by William Henry Davies
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.I have not been standing and staring much, hence my absence of Xanga posts and of reading yours. Perhaps later? Until then, Mayday! Mayday! Er, happy May Day.
Random shot from last weekend–the cast of As You Like It.
Just for the record. I’m a spastic blonde that stands and stares into space all the time. It’s really not all that it’s cracked up to be. (LOL)
Of course, if I was actually *thinking, pondering, musing or reminisencing* it may be different…but, usually I’m standing there trying to think….”now what was I doing?”
The headgear of some of those cast members are fabulous! Very laugh-worthy.
I have liked that poem for a long time.
There are points in life where a mother just doesn’t have time. There have also been places where I thought I did not have time, but I needed to make the time. When I don’t, I can burn out pretty fast.
Beauty has a marvelous power to restore the soul.
I had my own moment of stopping and staring just recently. It was completely unexpected and all the more special for the surprise. (hint: I wrote about it today on my apple pie website — wink, wink!)
Wow! Play and after prom? You are busy.
Our prom is over and done. No incidences and everything is cleaned up. I hope yours goes as smoothly as ours did.
Great that you are back!
I always love your choice of poems to post. Hang in there with the busy life!
have missed reading your posts. i haven’t posted in a long time, either. not that i’m necessarily too busy to post, but with children of all ages at home all day, life is more standing and staring than typing on the computer. love the thoughts in that poem; so true….
