  • A Pee

Sometimes, I just feel as if I have nothing to say. I’m sure we all go through fits and spurts of brilliance, and I’m certainly not spurting at the moment (although I will not rule out fits).

We are dog-sitting my “sister,” Molly the beagle mix. Every day, I am happier and happier because I don’t have a dog full-time. After the 27th, I can return her!  Usually Molly is the easiest pup in the world to watch, but at age 14, I guess her digestive tract doesn’t work as regularly.  I cleaned up a wet mess, TGD three separate “double messes,” and one day, I left the house for less than an hour, and when I returned, I discovered she had thrown up on three different couch cushions, the side of the couch, twice on the ottoman, twice on the carpet in one room, and once on the carpet of another room. Hooray for cats!

I have decided to teach AP Language and Composition again next year. I had a four year break (or three years? I forget.).  I’ve been asked many times if I would teach again, and this year I agreed.  If you’ve got any interested AP students, let me know. (I can give you references if you want, or, former students, feel free to gush right here on Xanga–ha ha.)  In some ways, I am not looking forward to it at all. The AP exam has changed since I last taught, so I have quite a learning curve for myself–new syllabus, new essays to grade, new textbook. I’ll have my evenings taken up with grading essays and replying to students when I’ve been used to just lounging around doing nothing. But, I can teach both Wit and LibbyK in my class next year, and I can make new friends.  It’s time for another AP picnic, is it not?

Here’s a kitchen Wit drew for drafting class.  I was pretty impressed!

What are you reading lately? I always like to know.

(And please, somebody did get the double meaning of my title, right?)

  • I’m currently reading a book by Francine Rivers – a book about a present day Hosea.

  • Even I got the double meaning. :)

I’m currently reading only university related books, nothing worth mentioning.

  • I’m currently finishing up The Bible Salesman by Clyde Edgerton.

  • The drawing is great!  He did a great job!  I am reading some inane kids’ book that I would not recommend, but I have Around the World in 80 Days and The Color of Water sitting here to read next.  I’ve never read the latter before, so am looking forward to it.

  • Oh, and yeah, I did get it, but it took a bit.  Groan!

  • I got it too, after you mentioned it. Got the first meaning first, so to speak. LOL

  • AP English…oh the memories. LOL!

I’m trying to finish Cornelia Funke’s Inkheart – good but slow going.

  • @ChristianFictionQueen -

I love Inkheart! (and the other two) I just read aloud her Igraine the Brave. Such fun!

  • It would be so amazing if you were to teach AP English again – it was one of the reasons my senior year of high school was one of my favorite years of school. Anyone who would want a reference for it, ask me at your own risk, because it may be hard for me to shut up once I get to talking about how much I loved the class. :)

  • You would do this, of course.  Teach right after I graduated!  *sigh*    Seriously, though, it would have been wonderful to take your class.  I’m sure your students will love it!  (Although it was rather fun being Bethany’s guinea pig class!)  And I’ve actually found the new essay – the synthesis essay – to be one of the easiest.  You don’t have to make up something to say!!  Just write about the sources!

  • My youngest brother should take your class. I’ve just been up to the usual college rounds: studies, exams, hanging out watching my friends play Guitar Hero at 3:00 in the morning on Friday nights. I joined the ROTC; I haven’t signed any contracts yet, but right now I’m strongly interested.

  • I like books that affect me & Rivers books do.  -so much emotion.

  • Yikes…I can hardly clean up after my children throw up. I know I couldn’t clean up after a doggy. Ugh….I’m sooo weak stomached.
    A pee.   funny. ;)

The drawing is great. Very talented. :)

  • Thanks for waiting until AFTER I graduate to teach that class again. :P

  • Yea, I understand why dogs are not your favorite companion.
Are you teaching through PA Homeschoolers? Fun – fun…I’m sure you’ll have fun.

I just finished Angela’s Ashes. I really liked much of it, but found the ending lame and disappointing.

  • @i_was_there_and_back_again -

Now you have to read ‘Tis and Teacher Man. McCourt is interesting to read about, but I’m not sure I’d like to be his friend in real life.

  • OOohhh….I wish one of my girls was at the right stage to take your class. How fun! Once you get back into it, you’ll feel right at home I’m sure.
Reading? Hmm…Trying to get into Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society (that title has TOO MANY words!).

  • I will gush! :) To all future AP students out there or parents with prospective AP kiddoes: Mrs. Sellers is amazing, lots of fun, and teaches excessively well. Take it from a former student of only . . . gosh, four years ago now. (wow, I feel old . . .)

    (much love, Mrs. Sellers!)

  • Two thoughts this morning:

    1)  You are an amazing AP teacher!  Any student would be truly privileged to learn English from you.

    2)  In line with the theme of your post, imagine my glee when I was presented with additional “gifts” from Molly this morning.  Ah, the joy… I just wish I knew why Molly dog was in such a giving mood…

  • I consider myself fairly verbally astute, but I don’t get the double meaning unless it was about “spurting”

Oh you poor thing!  Can’t you find a small room with a hard surface floor and make a comfy bed in there for the dog?  Are you going to throw out the couch?

I wish Septus could take AP English from you.  He would probably be in the remedial AP class: he is out of practice because I haven’t been on him about it, and his spelling is like,- like all the Mamaglop men.  I could never get more than two paragraphs out of Quintus until I discovered the missing motivational ingredients: peer competition and grades.

  • @mamaglop -

A Pee–the surprises left by the dog

A Pee–the phonetic spelling of “AP” as in “I’m going to teach AP English.”

I take the good and the not-so-good in my class. They mostly get ship-shape, even if they don’t get a 5 on the exam.

  • RYC: I hope you find some rest from the boring running and emotional turmoil. May today hold a secret delight.

  • It took me a second, but I did get your title. I knew you were up to something with the title, but I had to think at the end. Thank you for making me think. I haven’t done much of that today (my job is not one that requires thought).

What am I reading right now? Well, I’m 2/3 through the latest Eragon book. I’ve been reading it since December…it’s really good, but I don’t like to read it when I’m tired and it seems that the only time I have to read anymore is right before bed. I did read about a third of it at airports on our way to and from Mexico City. It seems like more of a transition book, and it has more battles than I’m interested in, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good. I also thought LotR had more battles than I wanted, and that’s an all-time excellent one. I’m also reading The Live You’ve Always Wanted for our neighborhood Bible study. I can truly recommend that one.

  • Yes, I got the double meaning (groan).

I have to tell you that I was getting tired of our first Jack Russell (his name was Dandy).  Leaving him out, feeding him, …..  and he did have a nasty habit of peeing in the house if he got excited (I came home, company came to the door,etc.).  But when he unexpectedly died, I was very sad.  He was a great comfort to me when Mike’s mom died.  When I needed a hug, he was there.  You have to understand, this dog followed me EVERYWHERE.  It was most inconvenient at times (such as the bathroom), but when you get used to a dog on your lap every time you sit down, you miss it when it suddenly stops.  Hence, Dandy’s brother came into our lives about 3 months after he died.  Cody isn’t quite as obsessed with me like Dandy was, but it is much easier to live with!  I still can snuggle when I want to and this guy doesn’t pee when he’s all excited– he’s thoroughly housetrained, but of course the process was “fun.”

I really like the kitchen layout.  Lots of cabinets.
