Super Night
Like most of the rest of the USA, our TV is tuned into the Super Bowl. We live in Steeler Country, you know, so it would be most unsporting of us not to root on the team. Besides, my grandma is a big Steelers’ fan, and it wouldn’t do to fail to root for Gram’s team.
I’m not watching the game, but I did get to see that fellow run 100 yards and flip onto his head for that touchdown. I love games where people run back from the other end zone or run back for a touchdown on a kick off. That’s why I like lower-level football better. Snincr asked me in line for our church fellowship meal today about my football affiliation. “The closer it is to my actual house, the more a fan I am. I’m a HUGE Centre Bulldogs fan, a big State High fan, a fan of Penn State, and after that, it dwindles,” I said. (By the way, do you know the three words in the dictionary which start with “dw”?)
Wit’s surgery on Friday went well. The doctor said that his shoulder bones had already overlapped by 1.5 inches and it was pretty difficult to pull them back into place. I am very glad we did this surgery. Wit looks like himself again–not all hunchy.
We paid the deposit for Hunter at Penn State. I don’t suppose that means he’s officially enrolled, but it feels pretty official to us. Whee! It will be a different game in two years when Wit comes around, but for now, this college thing was pretty painless. It helps when your child only applies one place and that place doesn’t require an essay or letters of recommendation or anything.Now, I’m going to pick up LibbyK from a Super Bowl party and dream of Jax. What did you do this evening?

Dwindle, dwell, hmm….
… and dwarf!
Tonight I was at church and then came home and played Scrabble with a friend.
I keep checking on the game score but am going to bed soon. Don’t know if I will be able to get any sleep though…those Steeler Country people are pretty loud and boisterous, ya know.
Ah, so glad Wit looks better…and hopefully feeling better too!
Blessings to all of you…and a superbly good night.
@NightCometh - and dwarf!
Blessings!
Ha! I only applied to one place, too!
But I had at least three different places to apply to within PSU.
We watched the Big Game, too (er, rather, it was on…not like I was paying attention) and I decided when there was a minute left in the game and the Cardinals were losing that I wanted them to win, because I discovered they’d never won before. Evidently that didn’t help them!
I refuse to believe this is Steeler Country because we’re in the middle of the state and there are just as many Philly fans around. And I was unsporting because I won’t root for them. I didn’t really want the Cardinals to win, either, so I didn’t pay much attention. Even the commercials weren’t worth it.
Okay, Okay, I get it. Two comments about Jax in the past week…I’ll see if I can’t get some more in the mail…
I suppose a name like Dwayne wouldn’t be in the dictionary….hmmm…ah. DWELL.
Your evening sounds nice- I’m surprised (honestly, I really am!) that you didn’t have a zillion kiddos at your house hosting a party.
@JerseyFam -
Oh, that really wasn’t a hint. Truly! I still am in awe you sent me some before! No, I need to call the company and find out just where they are sold within driving distance of my house. Did you know, when J and I went to DC, he was kind enough to stop at several grocery stores along the way just to check if they sold them?
@TeacherPerson - Oh, that was very nice of him! I did look on Amazon, and sadly, you can’t buy them there either. I’ll try to grab some next time that I am in the store…I get there much more often than I get to the post office, though.
I’m glad the surgery went well….
Dwaddle, dwindle, dwelt? Well, dwaddle isn’t a word, but it should be. How about dweeb?
@i_was_there_and_back_again -
Ha! I thought the same thing you did when I first heard this “three words with ‘dw’.” It turns out the word is “dawdle” not “dwaddle.” And, I guess “dweeb” is slang. And dwell, dwelling, dwelt are all derivatives in the mind of the person who first told me the “dw” bit.
We threw a going away party for some friends who are moving to England for the next 3-4yrs. The wife and I picked the date, not knowing it was the super bowl. Funny…none of the men were totally into it, and only 3 actually watched it. I saw two spectacular touchdowns, including the one you mention, but normally I am utterly bored by American football.
Glad the surgery went well. I was going to ask you about the dw words, but I found them in your comments section.
dwarf, dwell, & dwindle– but definitely dweeb, too. It’s a good ’80′s word.
Showing my age, here……
Glad Wit’s surgery went well. Congrats to Hunter. Hope you feel better.
I sat on a couch and enjoyed hanging out with my sons as we watched a truly entertaining football game (and somewhat disappointing TV commercials)!
I didn’t watch a speck of the super bowl. We went to visit Tertia and set up chairs for her college church service.
Good grief! I’ve been offline for less than a week and you’ve been having surgeries and college-pickings in your house!
We rooted for the Steelers; my father owns three/3 terrible towels!
Yay for Seller sucess on all sides! I’m so pleased to hear that all’s well in your house!
