Maybe It’s a Blessing?
I’ve somehow gotten myself sick, the illness that makes you sleep poorly with visions of chicken pox, baking cookies, and endless driving cavorting through you restless head. It’s the kind of disease that makes you want to be mean and curl up and cry all at the same time. Of course, you have to sneeze through all of it with a feeble cough like a dainty consumption patient sniffing ragweed.
I’m not alone in my contagion. Hunter and Wit have head colds, and Gockle has some weird illness which is like a cold, but he just randomly throws up every now and again. But, there is no fever, little dampening of spirits, and he seems to be able to eat.
Tomorrow starts school again, which will be quite a challenge since we’ve been sleeping in until ten or twelve on some days. But, perhaps these illnesses are a blessing. I have a perfect excuse for everyone to go to bed early and to take it pretty easy tomorrow. And, I have yellow cake, hot tea, a soft mattress, hot water with bubbles, lots of books, my magic pajamas and robe, and a snow cone machine.
Are you a sickie, too? What’s making you feel cozy?

I agree, regarding your comment…
I hope you and the family feel better soon! That sounded like an amazing party last week… I’m glad you ‘survived’…
and I think the falling-snow background is nifty!
and I think you’re right that God sends sicknesses to us because of His love for us… though we may not fully understand until we get to heaven sometimes…
Hope you feel better soon!!
I have a cold too. But I am eating Spam, which makes me feel good.
Thanks so much for all your hospitality on New Year’s Eve/Day!
Tsk tsk. You sleep like a college student. Get well soon!
Sorry you are sick. I hope you try airborne. Perhaps you should try zicam.
I’m not sick, but I had a monster leg cramp three days ago and it still hurts in that muscle. I hate that. The left over pain and the after cramps are worse than the cramp itself… (Even though this one had me screaming, crying, and rolling on the floor in pain.)
No relief for me, although I managed a 2.5 mile hike today on it.
Four people related to me, as well as S.F., are sickos right now with that weird throwing up thing. So far, though, i’m healthy as a horse. for now….
Just make sure you don’t get dehydrated; apparently that’s what happens with this thing.
Sooo sorry you are sick! But your description of it is very creative!
Yes, that’s a very interesting & yet vivid description on how you feel. Usually, when I get really sick I feel like my head is floating, my vision is fuzzy & everyone is moving in slow-motion. I haven’t been that sick in quite some time. I have been fighting a cold since Christmas, but it seems more like glorified allergies than anything else– scratchy throat, watery eyes, sinus yuckiness. My sick-cozy would be the brown blanket my husband has had since high school. Everyone wants it, but only those who are truly sick or that-time-of-month can have it at any given time!
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Yeah, I developed a cough the last two days in DC. Allegra seemed to alleviate it, but yesterday was utter exhaution. I came home from church, made brunch, and went to bed. I thought I just overdid it on the flight back, but there was more. I had a fever…guess I caught the flu. Today was my first day back at work in 5wks and I refused to be sick and call in. Thankfully, my body complied and I woke up without a fever…still, the cough is annoying and my energy level went down to low-brain-function around lunch time. Thanks for the forum in which to commiserate and whine. I hope you feel better and those of your household as well.
So sorry you’ve been sick…hope you are on the mend!
