Happy Last Day of October!
With thoughts of Cinderella, football players, and nerds (my three younger’s costumes) cavorting through my head with mini chocolate bars (especially the Crunch bars and Milky Ways) and State High football (still undefeated), I write today. It’s FRIDAY! Whee!
I don’t know why I’m so happy about that, especially since this has been a football/cheerleading practice-free week. I think I’m excited because tonight, while TGD stays home to pass out the candy and after I drive the older two to the football game, I get to spend the evening with my friend and go shopping for clothes and shoes and then stop at Starbuck’s for a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate. Then, Saturday night, TGD invited me out on a date–dinner at the restaurant of my choosing and a movie. I’d like to see the new Kiera Knightley one, The Duchess of Devonshire, even though I’ve not read the biography yet.
Speaking of movies, the younger three and I headed out to see High School Musical 3. Yes, I liked it. I wanted to clap after every song because I felt like I was watching a high school musical. The song about Prom night, A Night to Remember is a real hoot. Here’s a Youtube link for it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14iQM_ZrCXI.
We are teaching the dog to sword fight. Because, really, it’s not good for much else. Except shedding.
And leaping into the air to rip off someone’s arm. Ya, you go, Lucy!
I’ve been wondering, what candy treat do you like the most? (Whether it’s picked out of a Halloween bag or not!) Does ANYONE really like Almond Joys? (Well, other than Ruth G.) Or those nasty peanut butter taffy things wrapped in orange paper? Ick.

the dog can be zorro!
I like almond joys- the only form of coconut I like
Before my sugar-free, dairy-free, wheat free days, I was a definite snickers gal. Anything with caramel and nuts. But I haven’t snickered in over a year. I just make my own candy…and yep, enjoy it too.
Ick indeed, those waxy-soft-yet-hard-melt-in-the-paper-toxin-loaded peanut butter nuggety things! Those ‘things’ are a disgrace to the name of peanut butter!
Oh please choose the Tarvern and then order the Blacken Chicken and one of every side (but two of the apples)! Enjoy!
Happy Last Day of October to you, too!!!
I had a Three Musketeer Mini for breakfast. (To be honest, I had two Three Musketeer Minis).
My favorite ones are the special dark mini Hershey bars (my 13 year old hates them- her favorite Halloween candy is gum or the yucky gummy eye balls.)
RYC: My AP class is online. Info on it can be found here: http://www.debrabell.com/online_classes.htm
A salted caramel hot chocolate? Sounds like a melted snickers bar. I hope you enjoy it.
My two favorite candies are Smarties and Butterfingers. I have two favorites, because sometimes I am in a chocolate mood and sometimes I am not.
Oh I’m so jealous, lol. Enjoy shopping, dinner out and the movie. It sounds like a heavenly weekend to me. God bless you Mary!
Seems like you got a great family dog!
I like almost all sweets, probably also these almond joys although I don’t know them.
Maybe eventually you can rent out your dog to the circus.
My favorite kind of candy is Skittles, but I haven’t had any in a very long time due to a visit I had to the dentist’s office.
she’s a really cute dog.
Your reference to Lucy as “it” gives away your true feelings. That’s always been my biggest clue as to whether or not someone is really an animal person. Those pictures of her are amazing – what a jump.
My favorite candy is Reese’s anything. Whoever first combined chocolate and peanut butter was a genius. My mom likes Almond Joys, but then she also enjoys black licorice (yuck!). I’ve yet to meet someone who likes those hardy orange and black wrapped taffies.
I love that Holmes/Watson joke — always been one of my favorites!
Agreed on the peanut butter balls of toxic glue. Now a Reese’s on the other hand….yum!
I used to hate the little “smarties” candy. They tasted like chalk and were the first things I would trade away.
I love Almond Joy. Even as a little girl those were one of my favorites! Funny, isn’t it? I remember thinking that the same thing about Hershey “Special Dark” chocolates, “Who would eat those?” I always thought my Dad was nice to eat mine. Last night I picked one out while we trick-or-treated at a neighbors house, and laughed as I thought about my ‘sacrifice’
Okay but what about those waxy candies shaped like pumpkins, etc. Yuck!
Wax lips are by far the nastiest crap you’re supposed to ingest. Seriously, those are meant to be edible??? I don’t know… I tend to go for chocolate, but nothing beats a plain Hershey’s bar – well, except now that they switched to modern packaging. I LOVED being able to tear off the paper wrapper and then slowly peel back a corner of the foil… So Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I know, but that’s also probably why I love doing it so much. Plus, they were at least somewhat resealable that way.
By the way… being busy is no excuse to not do NaNo. lol!
Three cheers for someone else who liked HSM3! I adored it. My response to everyone who objects to it is that they don’t like musicals in general. Who calls Oklahoma or The Music Man or even Hairspray realistic?
Did your older ones not dress up, or were you just not excited about their costumes?
I spent Friday night sleeping in a parking lot. No; I am not kidding. A student of mine allowed a mole hill to grow into a mountain and was sentenced to a Friday night detention held by the Oklahoma State Patrol officers. My boy cursed (he didn’t actually say the work, but the meaning was clear enough) my teaching partner and was given a Saturday school. (8am – noon on Saturday). He skipped the Saturday school and so it doubled. He skipped the next and that is automatic suspension. His mother decided to sign him up for the Friday night detention program (6 pm – 11pm Friday night at the National Guard Armory) in lieu of the suspension. Good woman that she is, she then refused to transport the boy. It is about 25 miles from our school and so I offered to take him so he wouldn’t be thrown out of school altogether. And so, I spent the evening sleeping in the parking lot. My husband went with me so I didn’t have to sleep alone. Hahahahah
The life of an alt ed teacher.
PS: I can eat myself silly with the big Reeses Peanutbutter Cups.

Well, their costumes weren’t too exciting. Both LibbyK and Gockle were football players (nominally) and Wit wore a suit and hat and was…um…Hunter didn’t wear a costume at all, although he did put on glitter for the football game.

I kind of like the candy corn pumpkin things, although I suppose it’s better just to eat sugar by the tablespoon instead.
Hey, I like those peanut butter sweets wrapped in Orange and black paper.
My favorite candy is starting to come out more now as we get closer to Christmas. Chocolate Covered Cherries! I’ll be doing my annual post about them soon
We only had kids come to our door once, so we have LOTS of leftover candy of which I scoffed a lot down last night and today while working
Teaching the dog how to sword fight. I gotta try that someday
Good to hear you had a nice Friday night and thanks for stopping by. Sorry for not getting around sooner.
Your month sounds about like me.
I organize three writing groups, one is yearly, the other two are script Frenzy and NaNo… and I’m in two clubs that I try to go to and about six others that I never make it to… So my non NaNo nov schedule is a lot like this:
Nov 1 – Halloween Party
Nov 2 – Party for other writing group
Nov 5 – other writing group
Nov 11 – other writing group
Nov 12 – drive 600 miles to Ohio
— while I’m home, I’ll take 5 kids 7 and under to President Garfield’s House, and include a trip to the zoo for the youngest two if it’s not too cold out…. AND fix my car, which is the entire purpose of the trip.
Nov 23 – drive 600 miles back to TN
Nov 27 – thanksgiving, my birthday, and a hiking group meeting
ALSO, I have a december deadline for a story I want to submit, and I have just agreed to collaborate on a pregnancy book with somebody, so I have to do interviews and stuff for that. *headdesk* Oh, and I’m supposed to be looking for a job, but that’ll wait until December. I’m busy noveling right now.
Our dog goes nuts whenever there is rough housing. He tries to “bite” everyone….
Three Musketeers…..oh, they just melt in the mouth.
How did you like the movie? Do tell.
Love the leaping dog pics! Good idea teaching her sword fighting. Puts her to use.
I tried a new candy from the Halloween assortment at the store: candy corn kisses. I imagined a chocolate candy kiss with a candy corn imbedded inside and was curious. What it really was: the texture of chocolate, but colored in 3 sections like a candy corn. It was supposedly candy-corn-flavored, but what I tasted was like white chocolate gone wrong. Eeew.
