Wheee! Weekend!
So, whatcha’ doing this weekend? It’s lined up to be a good one for me. We slept in shamefully late and did some chores. Then, Wit finally got to open his birthday presents. He always drags it out and makes such funny comments that it’s a good time.
Then I cut the older guys’ hair. After that,
the kids wanted to look through TGD’s and my high school yearbooks
which led to much laughter and “Oh my gosh! Is THAT a guy or girl?” Ah,
1980′s hair…
This afternoon, I plan to spend an hour or two in my bedroom folding clothes, ironing, and listening to my Bible. I also had better make some time to prepare my Sunday school lesson since I teach tomorrow. (I forgot!) Penn State plays at 4:30, so you can guess where all the males in my family will be. Plus, there is lots of leftover pizza.Go, go Gockle!
Tomorrow after church, LibbyK cheers for Gockle’s football team. Then, we are planning an early supper at Olive Garden for David’s birthday. Yup. Much fun planned. And, I hope to finish my current read, Love in the Time of Cholera, which has to be one of the most boring books I’ve read lately. Absolutely nothing seems to happen in the novel. I wonder what it says about me and my tastes that I find the Nobel Prize winner dull while I eagerly devour Meg Cabot books. Not much worthwhile, I bet.So, what dull things have been occupying your time? Or, has it been a great weekend so far?

Wow. Thanks for your encouragement. I often feel guilty I’m not more joyful!
I never could get into Love in the Time of Cholera either… I know it’s supposed to be wonderful, but I hated it.
I found the Cholera book to be so beautiful in it’s details, so vivid, and perhaps I tolerated it better because I studied Latino Literature (in translation & with a prof) years ago. I found it less painful than the nothing-happens of British authors… like a Latin Room With A View or Howards End, both of which bored me terribly. That said, Cholera is slow with nothing happening and it must have bored me because I had to put it down (something happened while I was reading it to where I didn’t have the occasion to read for a few months) and never came back to it as I intended. It’s had the same book mark in it since 1999ish!
We slept in today! And stayed home! (as opposed to being in a different locale) and it feels good. We’re going to the movies this afternoon. And I’m cooking dinner (I only cook from-scratch dinners half the time now that I’m working). And tomorrow we take the dogs to the lake. And wash the bedspread on our bed. We’ve been welcoming the dogs on the bed the past few weeks, yet we haven’t brushed or washed the dogs in a while, so our bed is starting to smell like dog. I love those canines, but that’s just unhygienic! Back when I lived in Okinawa, Midori swam (and was rinsed afterwards) nearly daily, so we never got the dog smell in my apt.
So, what dull things have been occupying your time?
How good of you to ask, lol…why sick people. My family has been sick. So it’s made for a very busy week at least for me.
God bless you Mary!
he does have the curly locks.
sounds like a great weekend. ours was a bit similar. sleeping in thanks to hubby and then doing a mess of yardwork with the family. now trying to get dinner done with and the kids bathed and down so hubby and i can get a date in. i need to fold and put away lots of clothes too but that will have to wait till tomorrow. glad your kids are eating cake!
Writing papers. Speaking of haircuts, today Sensei looked at me and claimed that one day we would meet years after I had graduated. I would have some white-collar professional job and I would look entirely different, wear a suit and shoes, and not look like, in his own words “an unmade bed”. I told him I didn’t see that happening.
I’ve started reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle — so far I’m bored senseless. Besides that I’ve had oodless of fun working. Just that kind of exciting life around here. My goodness you do have a rash of fall birthday’s around your place!! Wow!
Happy Birthday to everyone at your house!
Or, at least the kiddos! Yum, Olive Garden sounds great- I’m sure you’ll have a great time.
My weekend so far, Taught piano-took daughter for her “Styled” hair cut (she informed me that as a junior high girl she should not have straight hair, no bands and no style….I relectantly agreed)….kids had a birthday party to attend at the park- it was freezing, but they apparently had fun.I went to lunch with my bil and sis and then to the church for music practice….and then to mom and dads for dinner.
(Pete has the kids)
Today, I’m really trying to decide if I should do what I WANT to do (Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway) or if I should do what I NEED to do (go grocery shopping)……I will see which after church.
Happy birthday to the whole clan. I find it easier to give a huge birthday greeting to you, since I see that three children will respond to it!
I am glad you are having a good weekend, I am rejoicing in a few moments to myself after a houseful for the week. Jim has driven our children south to drop off the cousins, and I am RELAXING!! Sudoku, a good book, and a bath are on my agenda. The only sad thought, no walk with my friend Teacher person!
Miss you!
I spent most of Saturday afternoon holding my 4-month-old nephew – not dull in the least!
Olive Garden makes for a delightful weekend indeed!
(Hope you got to that couple-of-hours-in-your-bedroom to do the ironing, putzing around and Bible listening. I’ve made some time like that lately too, and the results/benefits are amazingly wonderful!)
My weekend was very enjoyable! Friday afternoon kicked it off with ample time in the kitchen to bake and cook; an adventurous day out on Saturday hiking, and a good church service on Sunday with General Tso’s & Crab Rangoon To Go for lunch and a nap by the river in the afternoon. Thank you so much Lord, for your blessings on me!
…and may You (Lord) keep blessing Mary too!
I had a less than exciting time on Saturday. My teen daughter took the Red Cross CPR training course. It started at 9 am and was supposed to last until 5pm. But the men in the class voted to forego breaks and cut lunch time in half so they could get home for a football game. So they actually got out a little after 2 pm. The class was too far from home to drive back and forth, so I just had to wait around.
I have cereal with skim milk every school day. Followed up with a banana about 1½ hours later.
I must say that Love in the Time of Cholera sounds like a dreadfully dull title.
