  • A Bit of This, A Dash of That

Thursday already and almost July? Did someone hit fast forward on the rotation of the earth?

Today is rainy and we are headed to my mom’s for the day (after Wit is finished with work, of course). I will probably do there just what I am doing now, sit in a chair and relax.  Isn’t summer wonderful?

The shutters are all rehung, which is a nice relief. I decided to paint an interior door, which is also finished. And then there was all the gardening yesterday…hopefully something will grow.  I transplanted a bunch of baby lettuces to individual pots. But, I know when they are all grown and healthy and pesticide-free, I’ll bring one in to make a salad and the kids wills say, “Ew! Is that from the garden? Did you just pick that? There’s dirt on it!” Sigh.  I wish the tomatoes were taller than four inches. I’m not holding out much hope of tomatoes before August, which is a bummer as I dearly love homegrown tomatoes.

Speaking of healthy veggies, you may or may not have noticed the absence of my diet being written out here. I have been writing it in my mind, and I am much more aware of what healthy means. It’s not just adding a pear here and there. I felt pretty happy yesterday when I had a big glass of milk, two pears, and a veggie with a dash of pasta thing and egg salad on whole wheat .  Am I losing weight? Eh, maybe. As my weight is up and down during the day (like everyone’s), I can’t say FOR SURE that I have lost a pound or two. But I might have.

One thing I have lost is the battery charger for my camera. If God brings it to mind, could you pray that it would be found? Soon?  Thanks. No battery charger means no working camera which means no more pictures.

EDIT–The battery charger was found!  I shall now call all my friends and rejoice. Plus, I have a “swept house.”  Hee hee

  • Is that a real photo? If so, did you take it?

  • @nattata -

Yes, I did take that picture. It was at Warwick Castle in the peacock gardens.

  • I’ve never eaten a pear before.

  • hey hey hey. What’s up?

  • Did someone say they had never eaten a pear before?  Is this a regional thing?

Sooooo impressed with the shutters!  and red.  yay!  LOVE red for housey stuff.

    How frustrating about the charging!

My hubby is like that.  I stopped saying “Hey I grew this myself!”  because he would just look at it suspisously.  I kind of get that, but am still a little offended.  lol

  • it’ll show up in the car glove box or somewhere ??????

hey, that is a boy one -the peacock right. Have you ever seen a pure white one?

  • Oh, yeah, one other diet tip.  Don’t LET yourself weigh all the time.  Weigh once a week, immediately after you wake up, so that it will be somewhat free from the daily fluctuation thing, and you’ll get a much better idea of where you are.

Hope the battery charger is found soon!  NOT a good thing to lose!

  • I am back home from the conference and the only thing I’ll miss from there is the candy machine.  hahahah   My ‘diet’ was fully blown while living in the hotel and to get back on track I had a cinammon roll for breakfast instead of the usual cereal.  hahahahha

I am glad you found your battery charger.  I would miss your picturials.  Is that a word?

  • I’ll definitely pray you find your battery charger…that would be a bummer to be without. Do you have a backup battery? My husband “trained” me to always have 2 batteries on me at all times…one in the camera and one at the ready. Or is it just me who never thought of that before I knew him?

You know, if it’s okay with you, I think I’ll let up on posting the food as well. I’ve done wonderfully with the veggies, but I’m afraid I’ve also had “bad carbs” in more meals than usual. That’s what puts the weight on me.

  • Hey, maybe I will bring you some tomatoes as a hostess gift~

I am proud of you with your diet, so much of it really about healthy eating, isn’t it?

I spent the day at the girl’s school helping with their class 4 party. The lunch was truly British, scotch eggs, mini-sausages, sausage rolls, etc. Only 7 more days.

BBQ tonight, and our friends the Sewall’s are coming over from Flitwick. We still miss you!

    Much love,

    Lisa

  • Is that peacock from your garden, too? ;)

  • Does the peacock have some significance?  We were up at Lakemont all day yesterday with my brother & sis-in-law.  Kids had a blast.  We rode Leap the Dips – it’s supposedly the last remaining gravity something or other figure 8 roller coaster in the world – was built in 1902 and restored in the late 90s.  Even little BlueEyes got to go on it.  It  is a nice park for kids our families age but I doubt your older ones would be overly impressed.  We stayed there til closing and then watched a spectacular lightning storm from I-99 all the way home.

If you need lettuce perhaps we will have some extra.  We’ll even wash it first!

Yay on finding the charger.  I’m always losing my phone charger, checkbook or keys.

  • Did you piant 30 shutters in only five hours? that’s a major accomplishment!!

Here’s a quick and easy way to add veggies to pasta that I ‘ve just learned. If you make your own sauce, which doesn’t take too long, add onions, chopped tomatoes, peppers and some spinach..and viola !!!!!!!!!

  • Oops!!  I just realized that I haven’t posted any of my eating or exercise for about a week now. Sorry.  I think that I had been doing a decent job until yesterday, when I ate quite a few cookies…my family is in town, and I had to sample all that I had made for them…wouldn’t want to feed anyone yucky cookies or anything!

    Yay for the found charger!

  • Happy for you!

Also, thanks so much for your prayers!!

  • I am also trying to watch what I eat.  It is different since I am home all day now, (except for the four and a half hours of spelling camp).

It is supposed to get to 104 degrees here tomorrow.

My tomatoes went in late, not as late as yours, but I bought one big one for more money to be sure I got some early ones.
