I Shutter to Think
30 shuttersDo you think they needed refreshing? It’s only been 13 years or so…
(This shows both the original color and the new paint.)I’ve heard of painted daisies, but not quite like this one.
Phew. Five hours of painting. Now we just have to hang them all back up.
Have you been making any home improvements lately?

Whoa. That looks like a BIG job. Actually, the putting up and taking down is probably more work than the painting, though, isn’t it? And won’t it look beautiful?
Love the color!
We did pressure wash the siding this spring, which needed doing VERY badly. Amazing how much gunk is on there. And we added flowerboxes to the deck. Our house could definitely still use more sprucing up, though.
What a shutterly delightful post!
Loved your play on words.
Wow…that’s quite a project! Does pruning all the different kinds of jasmine and crepe myrtle in front of our house count for “home improvement”? That’s what I spent my morning doing.
Here’s the food stuff:
Monday, June 23, 2008
Exercise: 45 min walk, 40 min pruning the yard
Breakfast: 24 oz water, 2 Tbsp wheat germ with milk
Lunch: 1 square dark chocolate, 2 triangles laughing cow light
Late afternoon snack: 1” cubed brownie, 6 pieces pickled okra, handful of baby carrots with hummus, 2 wasa crackers with hummus, handful of kalamata olives, 12 oz koolaid, 2 oz port. Later another 12 oz koolaid.
Dinner: Main ingredients: 1 onion, several stalks of celery, 1 can diced tomatoes, 1 can black beans and we each got ½ lb of lean ground beef and 1/3 cup grated cheddar cheese. 12 oz koolaid. ½ scoop ice cream with 2 girl scout cookies (thin mint). 4 oz water.
Hytration: 64 oz
Shame you don’t live close by, my paint sprayer woulda painted them in less than an hour! Prolly more like 30 minutes
Wouldn’t have wanted to paint them against that pretty stone wall though, you’da had a red wall! :-O
Well, I “cleaned” my computer.
Wow! You’ve been busy! We are still in the middle of the bathroom remodel.
Your shutters look lovely. The extent of our improvements have been trimming back bushes. I suppose if we didn’t rent, we would be doing more, but for now we are happy to rent.
Taking down 2 HUGE oak trees and cutting them up for firewood this coming winter.
oh yeah, we’ve got lots of projects going on around here…
I started doing some touch ups in the kitchen, thinking I could just paint one cabinet door that desperately needed paintin’…HA! No one told me you can’t just paint ONE cabinet door! So, yeah, now I’m painting all of my cabinets
Yesterday, we had the sheetrock replaced in our laundry room…for some reason (from previous owners) there were large holes in the walls, exposing pipes from the bathroom. So, now, we have walls…and I will paint those beautiful walls this week!!
I also have 3 other gallons of paint waiting for me…to paint my hallway, my bathroom, and my bedroom!! Including trim and ceilings!! yeah, I’m a bit of an over-achiever, I guess
But, I’ve gotta do it when I can…and the time has come.
your shudders are beautiful! Good job! The outside of my house will have to be next year’s project
at first I thought they were kitchen cabinetes and I need to do those. I’m tired of the plain wood look. But sanding and priming and then the coat of paint. Makes me tired. Maybe if I do alittle at a time.lol
I think you should try another color, maybe just a 1/2 shade darker? Just kidding (!!!)
Talk about a lot of work! But, aren’t you proud of all you have accomplished? I am, for you~
10 more days, that’s what our paper chain tells us, until we leave.
Please pray we sell our van!
Lisa
That looks like a big project!! We don’t do too much around here, since we are in a rental…just things that are really necessary.
I don’t think that I’ve had anything except for a glass of water so far today. My memory is probably worse than yours, but I know that the weekend’s eating included a lot of meals out, french fries and all…not good. We did spend about 3 hours walking around town and campus on Sunday, so I’m counting that as some serious exercise (even if we did spend some of that time also enjoying our creamery ice cream!).
Wow…that is something I need to do, but I wouldn’t even know how to take the darned things down…I have terrifying visions of a balancing act on my porch roof! I always have a ton of things that need done here. This summer it is primarily painting. I am trying to “gear up” to paint my kitchen, hall/entrance way, and living room. I want to paint the kitchen a pale yellow and the living room/hallway a sage green. My shutters are darker green and need attention also. Hmmmmmmmmm. You may have given me an idea of a project to start while my daughter is at camp this week. Anyway…beautiful job, I’m sure…I always feel so good when something like that gets done around here!!! Be Blessed. Susan
The new paint looks great! Even on the daisy : )
We are always doing little (and big) renovations it seems… but this year we’ve been trying to just not get carried away on it. The last few years it has consumed our whole summer break
They look great!
Very industrious of you! Right now, Mike is still building the shed and I’m trying to get the pool clean. Next project on the list is a footbridge over the swail in the backyard.
Let’s see: a work team was here in May and they painted the outside of the house; my bedroom got a thorough cleaning and paint job (along with my bathroom0; I made some blackout curtains for my bedroom and ready to hang new curtains; I purchased fabric and made new curtains for our living room; the girls found some cute pink flannel w/puppy dogs fabric and asked if I’d make them night-shirts; and I did some mending!! I got the sewing/cleaning bug. Trying to get all these projects done before vacation.
I’m thinking about tackling the fabric room while Mom’s out of town for a few days, but I might be in over my head.
of course it was Luke : )

Exercise: 1 hour walk, 20 min sweep front walkways, 2hrs+ clean (deskunk puppy, scrub bathrooms, dust)
Breakfast: 12 oz water, 2 Tbsp wheat germ with milk, 12 oz koolaid, 1 stick string cheese.
Lunch: 15 oz coffee (mostly caffeinated…I’m nearly out of decaf), 1 whole wheat tortilla with jalapeno slices, egg, 3 slices bacon, 3 slices cheese.
Dinner: Very large bowl stir fried veggies w/ a little chicken and shrimp. Medium bowl buckwheat noodles (I know they are bad carbs, but the sugar content was low). 1 piece sugar free chocolate. 24 oz koolaid.
Houseguests coming in the morning (aaack…didn’t finish cleaning!) so I’ll see what I can do to remember what I ate when they take off on Thurs. Hope you’re doing well.
Nope! No home improvements to speak of…. just that of improving the kitchen by washing the dishes in the sink and improving the floors by scrubbing up the sticky stuff off of them! Oh, I am sewing a pair of cafe curtains for our main bathroom. I may have to line them, though, because they are very sheer. We do have the frosted windows, but…. I just like bathrooms to be really private… no shadows, ya know!
Got a ton of weeding done yesterday! Got rid of lots and lots of picker-weeds… I hate those things!… and guess what! There ARE plants growing under there! I had planted some gourds, watermelon, squash, potatoes, and some “strawberry popcorn” on the “back mound”, as we call it, but, the ground where I’d tilled and planted quickly got infested with a bunch of pickers! Those hateful pickers! I still have a section by the grape vine, but, I’ve asked Mr. H. to take care of that section. I did get a few more pictures of my garden today, but, won’t have time to post them for a while. My red Asian Lilies are in full bloom right next to my purple Roman Candles along with some Creme Brulee Coreopsis and a tall deep red plant with white flowers that I can’t recall the name of right now snuggled in around them. A huge pink Hollyhock has placed itself right at the corner of the path and it’s getting so beautiful as the flowers bloom.
O.k….. gotta go. it’s really late, yikes!!
The shutters look lovely. And i love the color. We’ve been talking about remodeling our downstairs half-bath for a couple of years now. Soon, I hope. I loved smarkas’ “stay-cation”. Could have used it when the kids came down for breakfast on their first day of summer vacation excitedly asking where we were going. How quickly they forgot their recent month-long trip to Korea!
That is so many shudders. Shudder! Home improvements….hmmm. Well after living in our new house for almost a year, we are starting to decide room colors for our bedroom, living room and kitchen. My husband’s studio will forever stay ugly beige until I decide some color to paint it just because he is not motivated to do it. And the maroon and blue plaid wallpaper has to come out of the bathroom. Too much pattern when your trying to focus on the task at hand!!
Your title left me in stitches! Great job!
I agree! He’s usually a pretty good husband- and I didn’t give him too a hard time about forgetting… I just let him know he can’t forget next year- ha ha! I’m pretty sure he won’t. He felt terrible about it when he realized it had slipped right by him.
Well let’s see…… 3 bedrooms, hallway, and living room completely remodeled/repaired and the attic cleaned for inside, . On the outside there would be the new pool, pressure washing and resealing both decks, installing the new furnace (that sound funny being on the outside list), leveling the yard and reseeding, and cleaning the garage. To finish it off we moved the chicken coop and put up the fence area for them. Of course that is since we bought the house a year and half ago.
Thanks for the help with the Balloon Race… much appreciated.
That’s a surreal looking landscape with all the miniature doors leaning against the fence. It reminds me a little of Salvador Dali, except the doors aren’t melting. They look snappy in their new red color.
