I looked down with fear and trepidation.  Would I be condemned to a life of white milk? Ice water?  Guava and Pomegranate juice with pulp?  Nope. I had a glass of Crystal Light Lemonade. (You guys were so smart!)  I smiled at my drink. “Crystal Light Lemonade won’t be a bad life, will it?” I thought. And I was right; this life has been just wonderful.

Some of you may have noticed that I didn’t post my diet yesterday or maybe the day before that. One reason is that I have a hideous memory. I forget ordinary details really quickly and it takes a lot of mental effort to recall them. Plus, on Thursday, I ate lunch at Panera and supper at Outback Steakhouse, so I figured the quasi-healthy diet was toast anyhow.   Today, I shall share my success and failures.

    Saturday’s Slurpings and Shovelings

Breakfast–hot tea and two chocolate chip cookies

Lunch–turkey sandwich with cheese, lettuce, and tomato with a side of Jax

Supper–BBQ chicken, baked beans, salad, fruit salad, square of carrot cake

    Snack–two sugar cookies

Exercise–painting the front door and some shutters, bending to get laundry from the basket while hanging it on the line, I took a 2 mile walk with hand weights, but I can’t remember if that was this morning or yesterday (see what I mean?)

A friend of mine, upon seeing these repeated lists of food said, “You don’t eat that much.”  Do I really not eat that much? I don’t think of myself as a light eater. Do you eat more than this in a day? I know you don’t eat the amount of Jax cheese twists I do, but what about the other food?

  • Hmm. I had a pb & j sandwich today, chocolate milk, some salmon and a salad with peaches and croutons, and a bowl of low-fat ice-cream with chocolate syrup. Seems to me we are comparable. Only, I’m not losing any weight!

  • Yes, I agree that’s not much what you eat.

Before my diet I would have 4 meals each day and often countless snacks or a whole chocolate or something similar in the evening.

  • Wow, how did you manage to have read so many books already in 2008?

  • I’m a grazer, so I don’t know. I am pretty sure the Jax twists fall into the dairy group…and that builds strong bones, right? ;)

  • No, I really don’t think you eat much.  But I’m sure glad you stuck that “quasi” in there, because you don’t eat very healthy either.    Did you put this up to get critiqued?    Actually, Saturday doesn’t look too bad except for breakfast.  You ought to try eating some protein for breakfast–I seriously think it helps me feel better all day when I do.

And about the memory, I am so glad to hear that!  I have an abominable memory, to the point that it’s actually scary at times, and misery loves company, I guess.  I’ve never found anyone as forgetful as me, so we’ll have to chat about this later, if we remember,

  • I’m bummed, I thought sure it would be diet root beer.  But Crystal Light was definitely a good choice.  I love that stuff!

  • Walmart has a cheap brand that we buy but same thing and if you spill it -looks like coolaid but not sticky.

  • Are you one of those lucky ones who never gain weight no matter what?

I have some really good friends who ate healthy , exercised, thought positively and died young(relatively)

But I still try to eat right…well, maybe tomorrow.

RYC: You may never get cellulite.  If your husband still loves you, don’t fret too much.  There are worse things in life than cellulite.!

  • I got it right. Woot!

  • After a week of being careful of my eating, I was excited to get on the scale on Friday. I wanted to see an affirmation for the work. Guess what?! I gained 1 lb. So…secretly irritable over that all weekend and so I made sure I enjoyed cake to the fullest once a day.  I didn’t think I’d be able to replicate my eating journal now that I’m home, but I’m relatively confident that this is what I ate Fri-Sun:

    Friday, 20 June

    Exercise: ½ hr run-walk, 15 min pilates

Breakfast: 12 oz water, 2 tbsp wheat germ with milk.

Lunch: 1 bowl Tuscan chickpea soup, 1 hard-boiled egg, mozzarella cheese.

Dinner/evening: fresh mozzarella/tomato/basil on crackers; havarti and grapes; 12 oz red wine (2 glasses across the entire evening); small piece cake; ½ egg plant with scallops, shrimp & saffron sauce.
    Saturday:

Breakfast: 1 slice wheat toast, 1 bowl berries and grapes, scrambled eggs, 1 mug decaf coffee, 12 oz water.

Lunch: 2 orders sushi rolls, seaweed salad, 3 servings butter-filo pastry with sautéed veggies, 24 oz water, grapes.

Dinner: 1 chicken shawarma (chicken, pita, veggies), stuffed grape leaves, 1 piece falafel (made with pine nuts), 12 oz fresh squeezed apple & carrot juice.

    Sunday:
Breakfast: 14 oz decaf-caf coffee, 1 breakfast link, several crackers with cream cheese & raspberry chipotle sauce, a few slices of apple.

Lunch: 1 bowl Tuscan chickpea soup, ½ pita, 1 ½ pieces falafel, ½ a fetayer (pita stuffed with spinach and feta), sliced tomato, 12 oz water.

Party: 1 huge piece of cake with ice cream, 24 oz water.

Dinner: Salad (spinach, romaine, prosciutto, shrimp, feta, grape tomatoes, olive oil dressing), 12 oz water, 1 square dark chocolate.

Lost track of hydrating Fri-Sun…not sure how accurate above.
    Exercise Sat Sun: none.

  • Life is just not logical sometimes. This weekend, I ate whatever I wanted and didn’t watch the quantity either. I didn’t exercise. I just got on the scale, braced for the bad news. I lost the pound I gained last week AND an additional half pound. I wonder if watching your eating has retroactive results?!

  • RYC:  We both really liked both of the books by Mary Pride.  They were written in the 70s, but the message is still as valuable now (if not moreso) as it was then.  I would like to see updated statistics on some of the information she posted…but that’s about it.  :)

    HTH!

    Regina

  • Yes, I definitely do think you are a light eater.  I thought I’d enter my eats in a day when I read you were going to do it, but decided I wouldn’t after seeing what you eat.

  • Crystal light lemonade!  Not too bad.
