I Love Summer!
I loved England. I really did. But, I am so, so, SOOOO glad to be home now that it is summer at my house. No homeschool, swimming in the pool, pleasant walks, gardening, parties, eating out on the deck, sitting on the wicker porch swing or rocking chair, the fans blowing… Sigh. I just love it.
Not everyone at my house is so wild about summer right now. Poor TGD is suffering with the most miserable allergies. They are causing a flare-up of his Meniere’s Disease, a dizzy thing. Even with a constant Puffs Plus and dizziness, he and Wit managed to tear off and replace the front steps on our porch today. The boards were nailed over seven risers and glued to the risers. What a job it was to pry them off! I’m proud and pleased and now have to paint. (So many P’s.)
I’m not sure how to post my food and such for the day. It will make for a lot of boring entries. Perhaps I should post them separately? Today, not. Tomorrow, maybe.
Diet Challenge–Thursday
(I only included drinks if they had calories. I had a diet root beer and loads of water today.)
Breakfast–Slimfast bar and hot tea
Lunch–Fruit smoothie (banana, 1/2 c. strawberries, 1/4 cup skim milk), bowl of Jax cheese twistsSnacks– 1/2 bowl cheese twists, 1/4 cup raisins, 100 calorie yogurt, 20 Sugar Babies, hot tea
Supper–Grilled venison steak, two small baked potatoes with Parmesan cheese and butter stuff, double helping steamed broccoli, cooked grape tomatoes
Exercise–2.25 mile walk with 3 lb. hand weights
3 laps around the pool with arms only
Lots and lots of gardening–digging and planting
Hooray! I got my five a day! And, I exercised. Good on me. But, as usual, I got “snacky” at night.

Good for you! Your poundage, which I suspect is pretty minimal, will come off quickly. Though, I chuckled over the cheese twists!
Let’s see….I had a pb & j sandwich, a glass of milk with Nestle’s Quick in it, a couple yogurt covered pretzels, a few saltines, a noodle/ground beef/cheese/tomato casserole helping, 1 piece of sour dough bread, a small salad with some peas and corn in it and a bowl of lite ice cream. And I sat in front of the computer all day working on my portfolios. I need to be sprung loose!
Ahem. And just what size is this alleged “bowl?”

Dang. You’re on to me!
That bowl is amazing. I want to sit in that bowl.
Tonight’s steak was extremely yummy, and it was *venison*?!?!? Good on you!
Thursday, 12 June
Morning:
2 tbsp wheat germ with milk
1 stick string cheese
12 oz water, 16 oz hot tea, caffeinated
12 oz decaf coffee (doesn’t count towards hydration)
Lunch/afternoon:
Broccoli salad
A wrap w/ fake krab, havarti, bacon, jalapenos and ½ an avocado
12 oz seltzer water, 12 oz fizzy water, 12 oz Kool Aid (splenda, not sugar)
Dinner:
shared a small plate w/ others: Hummus & pita & cheese
10 oz steak
Steamed asparagus
Sweet potato fries
Fried banana cheesecake bites, ½ plate
24+ oz water
Exercise: 45 min walk (brisk), 15 min pilates, took dogs to the lake for 3hrs (steep and long hill & some paddling around in the water, but fairly leisurely) Assessment: needed more veggies, did well on exercise and hydrating, should have skipped the fries & cheesecake nibblers.
Hey, Mary, have you read my latest post? If you’d like to forget dieting, I have a suggestion…
I’ve lost about 30 lb. in the past year withOUT dieting. Though as thin as you are, that probably wouldn’t happen for you, but you would feel SO good!
cheese twists huh? Do they count as a fruit and vegetable or as protein?!
Good job on the exercise! I am inspired already… I really need to work on being more active on a daily basis.
Ok, for the food…
Breakfast: two pieces of multi-grain toast (one with natural pb, one with raspberry jam), small glass of milk
Lunch: turkey sandwich with cheddar cheese, lettuce, and honey mustard; yogurt cup w/granola; baby carrots
Dinner: wrap (spring greens, chicken, cheese, honey mustard on multi-grain wrap), baby carrots, multi-grain chips
Snacks: bowl of peanut butter chip ice cream
Exercise: ran around with/chased/played with the dog for about 10 minutes
Btw, I would also like to loose about 3-4 pounds. Every time I have a desk job I gain a few pounds and I still have a few more to get rid of from the last one.
Glad you are enjoying the summer. Even though I greatly dislike heat and humidity, there is something special about summer fun and parties!
I was doing alright up until I pulled into Braum’s yesterday and got a single dip mint-chocolate-chip on a waffle cone! It was all down hill after that!
I’m loving summer too, now that our little heat wave is over. Phew!!
Onto the food…
Breakfast: slice of banana bread
Lunch: Slice of homemade veggie pizza (light on the cheese) and a big bowl of watermelon
Snacks: “Fruit Slice” candy (JJ insisted, since I had done such a good job of making a cake for our friend…my “treat for being so nice!”) and a handful of goldfish crackers
Dinner: 1 skewer (5 pieces) grilled shrimp, 2 helpings of salad with light dressing, cous-cous with corn and zucchini, and for dessert (we had company, otherwise this part usually gets left out!), a large slice of spiced peach upside down cake, which did include at least one entire peach.
As for the exercise, I spent an hour pushing 50 pounds worth of kid in my double stroller…through a very hilly neighborhood.
