Diet Challenge
Would anyone care to join me in a diet challenge? Remember, the word “diet” just means the food you eat. I am tired of ending my day wishing I had done a better job with my food choices and exercise. I think I might need some accountability. And, perhaps you would like to be that accountability?
Here’s the plan. Write down everything you eat and drink for the day. Then post it on one of my entries or on your own site or whatever works best for you. You have to do this every day. Let’s say for one month. Three weeks? How about July 4th is our last day of the challenge. Also, you should aim for some type of exercise each day, even if it is ten hastily-done sit ups before bed. Write that down, too.
Do you have to cut calories? Nope. But hopefully, I’ll be too ashamed to eat an entire movie-sized box of Jujufruits if I know I have to write about it the next day. One thing which I am going to try to do (and encourage you to have the same goal) is to eat five fruits or vegetables every day. It’s summer, they taste good, and I like them. Why is it that so many days I get to the end of my night and eat a handful of raisins just to get ONE serving? That’s just awful.
So, are you with me? Can you do it? Let’s see what happens. (And maybe, just maybe, I’ll drop those pesky five pounds!)

pesky FIVE pounds???? How about pesky EIGHTY pounds? I’d be more than happy to be 150 which is just overweight for me! I know it is mostly lack of portion control and exercise for me. I just might restrict my eating diary to just one post (adding to it) and refusing to update its date. We need to remember that muscle weights more than fat. I’m snacking Pinky’s leftover supper (Chinese dish). Housework does count as exercise if you are always on the move. Now to loose some of extra blubber before next baby… as I don’t want to deal with gestational diabetes again!! I might be game enough to join this challenge if MORE of others will also join…
We’ve been trying to add more fruits and veggies (mostly the veggies – fruit is so yummy it’s easy!) and less red meat. We go to our local public market/farmer’s market every Saturday and that’s really helped with the fruit and veggies. I don’t know that I’d be very faithful with the writing down and posting, but I’ll give it a go. I think that kind of diet is a great idea – no fads, just following the food pyramid and cutting back on junk.
Here’s what I ate today:
2 pieces of multi-grain toast (1 w/natural p’nut butter, 1 with raspberry jam)
small glass of milk
bowl of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries
bagel
chocolate cruller
Acai juice
tuna casserole
iced tea
Is this what you had in mind? I left my lunch on the kitchen counter today so I picked up some random foods at the grocery store for lunch – not a typical day for me. I gave in to the donut, but resisted ice cream tonight. Not a good day for exercise. Does watering the flowers count as exercise?
Ok, so tomorrow it’s your turn!
I can’t see any extra pounds in your picture…
Anyway, I’m currently on a kind of diet, the first one ever.
I have that pesky 24 pounds I picked up when we moved here EIGHT years ago! We are leaving on vacation next week and I won’t have internet access for the week…hmmmm. I’ll come and check out what everyone is posting and maybe I will feel motivated enough to control my portions and eat more fruits and veggies, too. I don’t think pumpkin muffins, with or without chocolate chips, count in the healthy veggie/fruit department.
Great idea…I will have to consider it. I’d like to lose about 24 lbs! I most need to up the exercise….but first I have to finish those you know whats that still hang over my head!
If I wasn’t going to be away so much between now and July 4, I think I would join you. I am still going to use this as a great challenge, and I’ll try to come and post when able. Accountability is the one area I lack in, and when I’m home with a baby and the cupboards, I struggle not to overeat. I do love my fruits, though. If you need some fruit, one of my favorite ways to sneak it in is to freeze some bananas and strawberries or pineapple and blend them with skim milk. It feels like you’re drinking a milk shake, but it is good for you.
I look at your and think how skinny! you are so I’m game if you are. I need to lose at least 10% of my wt. and that would be 17.5lbs. but how can I do that by July 4th? no way but I guess it would be a start.
my little daughter in law is like 120lbs if that and she loved the show to lose wt. on t.v.
Do Jujufruits count as one of the servings of fruit?
You are so beautiful and thin…it is difficult to imagine that you have to watch what you eat! My biggest problem right now is (and this is a stretch for me to share) is eating at night when I’m lonely and bored. My head recognizes that I am fast becoming an emotional eater, but the desire is great as it seems to fill some weird void. Marissa and I joined a gym yesterday and are going to work out together at least three times a week this summer. Last night I did not snack…I struggled…but I did it. Thanks for your comment on my post…I will update soon! Best wishes…Susan
I used to write down everything I eat at one of the online food diaries (I use my-calorie-counter), but I got bogged down with the change to gluten-free. It’s time to do it again! I’m in!
Dern. I don’t even like to think about it!
Did you ever get a chance to visit your local Curves? I think most of them allow free tryouts. It is hard to find the time to go now that summer is here and I don’t have a regular schedule. During school I can go on my way home from work. I haven’t been once since school let out.
Hmmm…every day? It’s one thing to try to remember to write it down, but another completely to get to the computer and post it. I often think that would be a good way for me to take off those pesky 5 or 10 pounds, but am not always diligent enough to stick with it! If you’re up for a partial poster, I’m in. So far today I’ve had a few glasses of water and a slice of a mini loaf of banana bread (low fat, whole wheat, I might add!).
Wow! That sounds unreasonable to pay for a year up front! I joined during a membership drive when teachers had no start up fee and I pay monthly. I chose automatic withdrawl from checking because it was like $5 less than paying in person. I can quit at any time. It is like $32.25 a month.
Mary… I don’t think you need to loose weight… Honestly, you are perfect !
) Have a nice day.
Hmmmm….let me think about it…..I don’t want to make a commitment that I can’t keep.
i’m not sure i want to have to post for three weeks, but at least your post has made me more aware of my eating habits. being home full-time, and eating for emotional reasons, are not healthy things. i do recognize my emotional dependence on food, and thankfully my metabolism burns off most of what i eat, but you’ve given me a challenge. i know having to write everything down makes a big difference. i remember two other instances of “writing it down”- one was in the area of my communication with my kids, and it made me realize i was actually giving them lots of commands, and we weren’t really dialoguing or discussing things. the other was when we started our budget, and we didn’t use our credit card for three months because we knew we’d have to write down the item and the amount we spent!
so far today i had a handful of homemade trail mix (cheerios, peanuts, raisins, and M&Ms; i grab a small handful of that before i walk my mile in the morning), a dish of vanilla yogurt with sliced strawberries on top, half a bagel, a scrambled egg with cheese, a 4 oz glass of grape juice, a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream, some beef barbecue, mashed potatoes, a chocolate chip cookie (that’s my daily indulgence!)!, and lots of water (i drink water all day long). not sure what supper will be yet, as i’m working around my daughter’s work schedule and an activity at church tonight.
oh, i will TOTALLY do this!
DD Though i think the fact that i ate four swiss-cake rolls during art class today might be slightly embarassing…. But you know me and my healthy habits.
I’m in! I’ve been trying to do that little tweak on my own for several weeks now, but too many opportunities to cheat come along. This will be some accountability. I need to keep my sugar/bad-carb intake to a minimum (it’s my body chemistry and my weight is in the center of my body which means it’s sugar-weight). I’ll post my intake at the end of each day. Thanks for doing this! I’m aiming for 10 lbs. I weigh 20 lbs more than I did at our wedding 2yrs ago, but I was thin and I don’t need to lost THAT much.
PS – I’m also trying to make sure I hydrate correctly. I have a walnut-sized bladder and was under-hydrating b/c it gets annoying when you have to go all the time. But in this climate and wanting to be pregnant…hydration is key. So I’m going to journal that I’m getting 75oz/day.
so the rest of my food — for supper…. 1 1/2 slices of ham loaf, noodles (with a little butter), raw cauliflower and broccoli with a little light ranch dressing. a bit of snacking during the afternoon and evening- some bing cherries, and a handful of mixed nuts. i wanted so badly to eat another choc chip cookie, or one of the reduced fat oreos hiding in my cupboard, or some ice cream or something, but i knew i’d have to put it on this list and i didn’t want to do that!!!
