Girton–with children
Remember that long walk to Girton I took the other day? I decided to try it again, this time with the kids. We packed sandwiches and I bribed them with sodas and ice cream at the Cooperative, and we set off for our three hour tour. (A three hour tour…sing it, Gilligan!)
No one really complained about the walk, because there was always something to see. Gockle did a perfect sheep imitation and had a lamb walk over to him at the fence instead of fleeing in lamb-terror as the rest seemed to be doing. They spray paint their sheep here, by the way. I suppose it is to identify them.
The cows in England are the most curious beasts. They come running to the fence whenever people come by, jostling and crowding one another to get a good look.
We got to Girton, which really doesn’t have much except a tiny playground.
But, we discovered there are Magic Bushes surrounding the playground! First, Wit found a volleyball. He kicked it over to me soccer-style and said, “It followed me. Can I keep it?”
“No, of course not!” I said. But, then, the kids found a tennis racket in the bushes. “Look, Mom! If we find TEN things, can we keep one?”
Not expecting that they would find ten things, I said, “Sure.”
A few minutes later, tennis balls, parts of a chair, a lighter, and more were assembled for my inspection. Wilson the Volleyball came home with us in the backpack.

Does reading your entry and seeing your photos count?

Awww! Now, that was a sweet thing to say!
Mary,
I always enjoy your pictures. God bless you!!
That is hilarious! I always enjoy reading about your adventures.
What a fun day! Who knew bushes were a place where “things” go! Any socks in there? RYC-
And yes, you are beautiful!
They spray paint the sheep to know which ones have been mated.

Ah, so THAT’S why!
What a funny Mickey Mouse t-shirt!
I found “treasures” on ebay. Does that count?
Ice cream seems like the perfect bribe.
Regarding discovering treasures…about five years ago I married the best treasure, so nothing that good, but Sweet Pea and I found some really fun books at the library to read.
I think it should be Libby…
How lovely and what a hoot! Find and seek of a new variety!
I bought two boxes of children’s surprise toys. I collect them but also sell some of them.
This playground looks quite like our local one.
Bribing can be quite fun sometimes.
That sounds like a treasure of a day.
Yes, prom is over. It was very nice but I am glad it is over. That is the first official sign that the end of the school year is near. Next week is the FFA banquet. All clubs will begin having their banquets to thank their booster clubs and sponsers. 3½ more weeks!
no,but looks like you found alot to see-I guess the kids will have alot to talk about when they come back to the states.
What a fun adventure! The weather looks as if it’s nice? I think it’s great that you get to see such a wide variety of sites. Btw, I immediately started humming Gilligan’s theme song when I read the three hour part. Lol
Neat Treasures from the bushes!! I can’t help but think of little tinkerbells and Thumbella’s flitting around guarding the treasures.
Your walk seems so lovely. I love when you post about your journeys.
FYC: YES! I was about to go seeking you out….I’m glad you reappeared!!
I can’t believe a veteran mum like you fell for that! They would of course then move heaven and earth to find 10 things!
Treasures? yeah I did! I found a book that I have been wanting, but it has been out of print for like 10 years, for less than $2 on the internet!!! Big time happiness!
I can’t believe it! They spray pain sheep to tell they’ve been mated?!? Does this bring new light to the term ‘painted lady’? I learn fascinating stuff here. I have sheep across the street from me and now I won’t be able to keep from peeking for paint..(I know what you did last night…)
I’de say this trip to the park proved to be pretty fun for your kids. A few years ago we did a school unit study on Letter Boxing’ (This originated in England and so I’m curious if it’s BIG there.) Using a compass and online directions, we would go in search of these boxes and it was similar to treasure hunting. We enjoyed it.
Oh what a lovely day! Yes, spring time in Europe calls my name but I have no real plans at the moment. Sigh! Thanks for sharing all of your adventures so I can live vicariously through you all.
Looks like a lovely walk and did Michael grow 6 inches, or does it just look that way?
I love cows, they are by far my favorite animals of all time.
So they litter in England just as much as we do here in America! The spray painted sheep is funny. When we were in Disney, the sheep at the petting farm had Mickey Mouse heads shorn on their behinds. Everything Disney I guess!?
Bribing children – I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one! You will be in such good shape when you return home from all your gallivanting around the countryside! I’d love to go on that walk with you. Treasures – keeping in touch with the “outside world” via e-mails and blogs.
In that case, it will be ready in about 2 days!
Did the weather start to get rough, did you get lost, did you find an island?
A shining sun, a beautiful walk, a picnic and a treasures hunt… What more can they ask ??? It sounds like a wonderful day.
) Have a good day Mary.

Your portfolios should be 3/4 impressive and stunning pictures!
