An Update Just for Andrew P.
I’m homesick today. But, I shan’t let that keep me from chatting. Thanks for all your kind comments about my haircut and for playing the Shakespeare quote game. (I’ll give you the answers at the end of this post.)
Easter was a blessing. Any day with a three-hour nap and lots of candy (er, sweets) is great, and to combine that with a celebration of the resurrection just makes the day phenomenal. We also woke up to two to three inches of fluffy snow and more flakes coming down. This is the first snow we’ve had in Cambridge. They aren’t really prepared for snow here (no snow plows, for one), so things were at a bit of a stand still. Our bus did come, but many people stayed off the roads and left church mostly deserted.
Wit took lots of great snow shots. I realize for most of my USA friends, seeing snow has long-since ceased to be a novelty. But, this is ENGLISH snow. Very different.
That’s Hunter and I walking to the bus. (And you can barely see LaughsALot_12.)
We didn’t have any Easter baskets this year. The kids had “Easter Plates” for their treats. What candy did they get? All sorts of English sweets? Nope! The Easter Peep send over a suitcase full of American goodies when Ghosty et al came to visit.
What was your favorite memory of Easter this year?

Being able to go the whole day without “getting sick” (oh the joys of being pregnant)!
How neat that you had snow! I love snow! And I think you’re right. English snow is a special treat
I’m so glad that you enjoyed your holiday. I too took a nap and it felt absolutely wonderful!
Snow! On all those lovely flowers! I hope it’s not a botanic travesty!
Favorite Easter Memory this year?? It took my sister three hours to find her Easter basket!
I found it in five minutes (while looking for mine) but didn’t tell her…
And spending some time reading anything other than College school work! lol.
English snow and Easter plates! Sounds like a wonderful Easter! Favorite Easter memory…hunting eggs over and over again until we got tired of hiding and finding them at my Aunt E’s farm. BIG family gathering, ham and all the trimmings…LOTS of relatives.
Sorry you are feeling homesick. What are you missing?
@tinybutterfly -
I don’t think I’m missing any one thing specifically. I think I’m just not feeling very English and am wanting the familiarity of home. Maybe? I don’t even know what it is myself.
great picture and a wonderful post!
ryc-the video was found after a search on google about worship styles…made no sense I think it popped up on accident, but spoke to me anyways
I am sorry you were feeling a little homesick. It is probably hard not to be when so far from family during Easter. We all gathered at Donny’s brother’s house and everything went well.
My children didn’t get their usual Easter baskets either. The only candy was one chocolate bunny each. In their baskets with the bunny was a plant, scrubby bath buddy and a personal toiletry. Since my youngest is 15 and not a one of us needs the extra calories, I don’t think they were too deprived.
So nice that you were able to enjoy home goodies for Easter. One of the things we miss from overseas is the Kindereggs – I know we could get them in Germany and I think they are available in England as well. We all love those! Great chocolate with the added bonus of a minature toy to assemble! Glad you guys had a good Easter.
Haha, and I was jealous thinking of you, because we had snow here! I found out that one of my “regulars” at Starbucks grew up in Cambridge, and taught English literature at the university before coming to teach at PSU. It’s been fun sharing “Cambridge stories” with him.
Sweet! Man, I wish there had been snow when we were there .(not really) But it look beautiful!
Wit took some absolutely gorgeous pictures. He clearly takes after you in the photography department. Great shot also of the kids holding their goodies; very festive. Hope your homesickness goes away quickly!
(P.S. I only had 2 credits left for buying a Mini for you, so I had to go with the dumb one here in order to give you one! Choices are limited with only 2 credits!!!)
Ugh…I’m homesick today too. I’ll pray that we both get over it quickly! Think of your good fortune, though…you’ll actually get to go home soon! I’m thinking about buying a house far from home. Ugh again!
Wow! I forgot your family has been in England for some time now. It looks like you all have adjusted. My favorite part of Easter Sunday was praising God in a huge tent, outside, with about one thousand other people. With all of those voices praising God for what Jesus did for all of us, it was like it might sound in heaven. Having my husband and two out of three daughters with me all day was the next best thing about Resurrection sunday. How do they celebrate the resurrection in England? I hear many aren’t spiritual at all.
Best Easter memory this year isn’t technically an Easter memory at all: the Good Friday service at church.
@TeacherPerson -
That’s understandable. ((((HUGS))))
You saw snow in Cambridge???!?! Wow. And you are only there for such a short time! You are fortunate indeed.
So sorry to hear you’re homesick!! That’s no fun. Hope you can connect with some friends in the states over the phone or skype or something, to ease it.
I’ll be in Cambridge for about a week in May (I graduate May 10th – party details to follow!) and would love to get together with you at some point then.
@yanniesue -
We’d love to see you!
Snow, an earthquake, and when we were with you, a thunderstorm. I guess tornado, hurricane, and volcano are left.
that second pic looks like a scene in Narnia! how very cool! (it’s really on my brain ALL the time now
Beautiful pictures. How novel….Easter plates.
Cute!
I love the picture of the snowy lane….gorgeous.
I hope your spirits pick up soon and that you find so many things to love and embrace while your in England. I may just have to pop over to cheer you up. LOL.

Oh, so sorry you are homesick. English snow…it sounds so quaint and very Little Womanish. Don’t know why, but it made me think of them.
We had snow in Northern Indiana too. But that’s ok, I just kept humming “whiter than snow, whiter than snow, now wash me and I will be …..
The hair looks great, I’m sure the homesickness was just a “holiday” moment. Holidays have a way of doing that.
Py
If that’s English snow, then we had some here in Minnesota a week ago. It was beautiful. But it’s beginning to fade away now.
That picture of you guys going to the bus does look right out of Narnia – so Englishy. It might be your cape coat too. Our snow is about gone. My mother is so tired of it, she went out to try to talk it into going away the other day. It didn’t listen. However we officially shut down the woodburner today! Mostly cause we go to FL on Thursday – just Bookman, Turkeycaller and myself. Girls are going to J & G Sh. Did you hear KARA gave Peace Home the license? YAY! Now they have to get clearance specifically for the girls. Well procrastinating is not going to get tax numbers to our CPA before we leave. Plus all that packing. Boo I wish I had BibbiDiBobbiDee Boo’s wand. Here’s a big hug from the G. Gang

RYC: Thanks for your comments about the videos. They did do a great job!
That wasn’t our church in the videos. We used the public high school’s auditorium because there’s more seating there (around 650), and these were events for the town and the surrounding areas. Our church is a good size, though – holds maybe 300. There are around 400 members in all.
You’re right! English snow is so…. so…. so Narnia! So Jane Austen! It’s really very pretty… are you wearing a CAPE?? How very English, indeed!
I just watched Masterpiece Theatre’s “Emma” last night and am in love. Daydreamy, romantic, “hand-me-the-kleenex-box-y”. PBS is doing all the Jane Austen novels and they have this great commercial for it with a super-sappy song “When the tears come streaming down your face…” blah, blah, blah…., it’s great! Why do I like this kind of sappy love story stuff! Ah, well. I don’t know, but, I’m an absolute sucker for a girl in a period dress & a man in tails & riding boots! I’m so…. so…. FEmale! Ugh! “Who will save me from this body of death?!!” LOL!!
OH!!! I HAVE to tell you… (what? am I fifteen? I’m talking like one!) I made SCONES yesterday! Fabulous ones, too, with chocolate chips in them! At first, I could have just eaten the batter raw, but, after mixing it up fully, it was too much like real dough. All it had was flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, chocolate chips and heavy whipping cream whipped up ’til it formed stiff peaks. You fold it all in together and then knead it and cut it, put melted butter & sprinkle sugar on top and bake it. They are so good & easy. I felt quite English… except I had them with milk & this morning with coffee… not very English.
Hope you’re having a fabulous… uh (what time is it?), oh, night sleep!! Happy Wednesday! AJ
hello. i came across your page and can’t help but answer your question, best easter memory this year. i would say the long break i had. for years, i’ve been asked to report for work during holidays and i always end up celebrating easter alone (since family is a long way drive and i still got work on saturdays).
haha I read those questions in the previous post and figured, to heck with this!! there’s no way a non-bookworm like me would even know that those books even existed! hahahahahaha lol it’s all good….. lol
That snow scene with the kids walking looks like a scene taken right out of Narnia!
Well, I certainly didn’t do very well on your quiz. English snow… you should write something Englishy about it, -lying thick on the hedgerows or something like that. Have you ever read or seen Cold Comfort Farm? Something like “The twisted branches of the hawthorn wore a layer of spring snow like an Aaran sweater.” -Not a very good effort, but you see what I mean…
@mamaglop -
Cold Comfort Farm has been in my Amazon cart for about two years now. I should just get it.
I think you wrote a pretty enough description for me!
