  • Bury Me in Credits!

    10,006

That’s how many credits I have right now. Whee!  I’m 10% of the way to the 100,000 goal to purchase Lifetime.  Yes, I took a few surveys (2,000 credits a pop), but several times I didn’t get my 2,000 credits or I answered about 20 questions and was then told I didn’t qualify for the survey. Oh, well.

Today we walked to the American Cemetery which is about a mile from our house.  Yes, the AMERICAN Cemetery. It is the only WW II American cemetery in the British Isles. 3,812 Americans are buried here. The wall (where the statues are) lists the names of 5,127 Americans who are missing, lost at sea, or whose remains were never identified.

There was a room with a chapel in it. The ceiling and the chapel area were all mosaic. One wall was a huge carved map showing planes and flights to countries. Actually, I’m not really sure what it meant, even though there was a legend of which planes were American and British–something WW II.  Two walls were windows with the seals of the 50 states in each one in stained glass.

On one of the outside walls of the memorial chapel was another carved map, this one showing England and the invasion of Normandy.

One other neat thing about the cemetery is the view, since it is built on a bit of a hill. East Anglia (the area where Cambridge is located) is pretty flat. Most of it was drained swamp (er…fen land).  If you stand in a spot near the flagpole, you can see Ely Cathedral 14 miles away.  It was pretty tiny, but we saw it.  (You can read about Ely Cathedral HERE if you missed the earlier post.) I didn’t bother taking a picture of the view because, really, did you want me to post a picture of a hill with some shapes on it 14 miles away?

    What did you do today?

  • What did we do today: School and tonight I have work .

    God bless you.

  • Well done for get 10% of the credits you need to get life time premium.

As for question I carried on doing the two week course in different modules to help us gained employment,  went to supermarket with parents for weekly the shop and of course going on Xanga.

  • @phil_leafman -

Which supermarket do you use most? We use Tesco online and Sainsbury when we walk.

  • @TeacherPerson -

    Tesco mainly but sometimes Morrisons

  • I am saving credits for Angi1972 to get a life…..I mean lifetime ,I have 10,000 so far,I had the same thing happen with surveys.

  • wow you have a lot more credits than me….

    cool pics by the way….

  • Here are some credits. LOL.

Wow. Very impressive. This place looks very interesting.

  • So how long does the deal last with the credits, do you think? I’m at 5,430….seems a bit impossible, does it not?

  • Your pics are interesting as always.  I’m catching up on all the news since I’ve been off xanga for a few weeks.   Hope your stay in England has been going well.

  • @i_was_there_and_back_again -

Even at 10,000, it seems rather impossible to think about 100,000. But, as they say, you eat a whale one bite at a time. I hope they keep the credit thing permanently.

  • i guess i might as well try to save up to 100k.
    good luck to you!
    and nice pictures.

  • :] I’m at 3K, but I’m not really trying to get anywhere. Haha.

I haven’t done anything even remotely as exciting as that, I’d love to go there just to look at things. It seems like it would be very interesting.

RYC: :D ! I’m glad you recognize where it’s from! That makes me happy! It’s a neat song by them. <3

  • Consider yourself buried :)

Neat pics. As always, very interesting.

Today—I worked for a bit, did some laundry, wiped down the washer and dryer, straightened up the garage which is a nightmare.

  • That reminds me; someone told me that there is a movement to have all Bibles removed from the rooms in the VA hospitals.   Have you heard of such a thing?

The first picture was an old skeleton key unlocking a door.

I have had a Curves membership for over 2 years.  I feel much better when I go regularly.  You are too young to appreciate the effect regular exercise has on the hot flashes in the middle of the night!  Ugh!  And I haven’t lost a pound, but I am less jiggly!  hahahahaha

  • I went and took a survey and got 2000 credits.  hahahah  So these are for you!

  • I really like the windows with each state’s seal in stained glass. Today I watched a movie, read some, visited my brother, took ds#2 to school and picked him up, and I will be taking him to Scouts in a bit.

  • today I wrote an essay for a college scholarship.

    more importantly:

    MOAR CREDITS

    : )

  • I’ve never heard of that cemetery, that’s pretty interesting.

I’m going to take some surveys, too!

  • Hi, I’ve enjoyed reading about your adventures in the UK. Are you originally from America? We visited Norwich 2 years ago as well as Cabridge… I am aching to go back. The ancient mixes in with the everyday modern to give you a connectedness with centuries past.

  • Today I took my sick son to the doctor. Hopefully he will start to feel better soon. He has been ill since Saturday. =(

  • Lucky you!  So far, I haven’t come across any surveys that I’ve been allowed to take.  Oh well.

Today I spent the day trying to take care of two sick kiddos, while not feeling so hot myself.  Ugh.  I’d rather be visiting the American Cemetery!

  • Omg! Thats a lot of credits, I’m jealous.

    Xo

  • Today, the juniors were testing, but the rest of us had to have some sort of assignment, so we watched An Inconvienent Truth, Super Size Me, and Sicko! We then answered various questions on them.

Nice sentences. Since I’m death oriented, my initial sentence was Ohh Baby… Another Freaky Gohst Killed Me…

  • I hate to admit it butthe boys look bored!

What did I do today?  Cleaned, shopped for a 1st bday present, made nachos, watched American Idol and Biggest Loser at the same time, put my sweet Brie to bed and surfed the web….a pretty non-productive day!

  • @rjdohner -

Shhhh! You weren’t supposed to notice the boredom!

  • are these post-haircut pictures for wit?

  • Cool memorial. Did it make you homesick at all? :)   My son would LOVE going to England for no other reason than to visit all the WWII sites, memorials and museums.

Your going to have to send me a link to some of those surveys your taking!! I want free lifetime too!! :)

What did I do today?? Well- it’s only 12 noon, so I’m still doing it…..working- with the occasional browsing of Xanga posts. :)

    -Cass

  • I’ve been away so long!  (Isn’t there a song with those lyrics?)  I remember reading about you going to England, but I didn’t know you were moving there! Enjoying your posts and loving the photos!

  • I enjoyed another wonderful day in Norway and gave a one-hour invited lecture in the department’s “fellesseminar”. Now I think I will spend as many of my credits as I can on a nice Mini for you!

    Love!

  • @GhostFroggy_123 -

Yes. I don’t know why he’s fussing. He looks just as ratty and curly as he did before.

  • Wow. That is a ton of credits. I haven’t been motivated enough to take the surveys yet.

  • OH MY…ARE YOU AN ELIZABETH GOUDGE FAN? SHE IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES!! MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW HER. HAVE YOU READ HER OTHER BOOKS? I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HER….MY FAVORITE IS CHILD FROM THE SEA!

  • Mary, I have been there and I know what you mean about the view of Ely Cathedral!!! It’s exciting to connect in that way. Today has been kind of boring so I will tell you what I did this weekend and what I am doing next week. Last Friday and Saturday I went with my daughter, Becky, to pick out the flowers for her wedding in July! We went to the Kat’s Meow in Lemont and had so much fun learning about flowers and greenery! Did you know that you can have a flower genetically engineered for your wedding? It was a bit expensive so we passed but it is still a fascinating idea. On Saturday we interviewed perspective photographers, went to the caterer and hairdresser and shopped for a Mother of the Bride dress! It was fun and I am so excited. Better put me on a budget though!! Next week we are traveling to Virginia for Spring Break where we will be looking for a house to stay in for Ken’s sabbatical at NASA. We hope to find an off season beach rental as we will be there from Sept through May 09. I found a beatiful house on line and hope it is available. Well that is the exciting news from the State College Brentner family. Love your Xanga entries. Hope this gets you a few more credits.Love and Blessings, Stephenie

  • Today I volunteered at A Woman’s Concern and did school with Tim or got him started and worked on laundry and read your Xanga! I also went down memory lane and thought about the visit we had at that very same museum almost 21 years ago. Thanks for the trip!

  • @i_was_there_and_back_again -

That was my first Elizabeth Goudge, but it was great! I copied a page from the book to put in my journal. Beautiful writing!

  • And I thought I had alot of credits at over 200!

ryc:  I have a very good camera.  I just need to learn how to use it.  For example:  somehow my flash got turned off when we first got to Disney (my camcorder takes still shots, too).  I couldn’t figure out how to turn it back on; hence many blurred pics.  Emily accidentally figured it out on our way home.  The videographer has much to learn!  If you’re interested (since you liked this one so much!) I could put the other videos from the musical on my site for your perusal.

  • @BobsFanClub -

If you did put up more videos, I’d watch them!

  • Thank you for bringing up some lovely memories. I went to Ely Cathedral as a child. We shopped for school clothes in Cambridge. Though I don’t remember that cemetery, it’s likely we would have visited it as well. We lived in a tiny village near Thetford & Bury St. Edmunds, and moved to the USA after 3 1/2 years there.-18

Oh, what did I do today? Visited a friend, went to the eye doctor, met our new priest, went to a bookstore, and now I’m playing on Xanga before getting down to editing my novel. It’s a blissful day off…I currently teach writing to 10 year olds, but today is a big state-wide exam in Texas. I’m not certified to teach in Texas, so I’m not allowed anywhere near the building today. Before I moved to TX, I taught English to 16-18yr olds on an American military base in Okinawa.

    Thanks for the nice visit!

  • Oh, you must read more….she has a series of 3 that go together about one family and then several that stand alone. Some of her books are very out of print and hard to find…but, hey…you are in England and it should be easier there! I can’t tell you enough how much I LOVE her work!

  • Assoon as I hook up Ang I will help you!

  • How’s going with the credits? Here are a few more! =)
Good luck getting enough credits =)
