Happy Mother’s Day!
Nope, I’m not two months early. Mother’s Day was celebrated today in England. I got beautiful pink, red, and variegated tulips, chocolate covered raisins and peanuts, two pieces of licorice, a Libby-cross-stitched bookmark, two cards (very English: “To my Mummy” and “I Love Mum”), and my traditional lunch at Pizza Hut. It was nice to be able to keep up the tradition even though we are overseas.
Speaking of overseas, TGD left today for a week-long jaunt to Norway. Yes, it would have been lovely if we all could have gone, and it would have been much cheaper to fly to Norway from England than from the USA, but… six plane tickets + six hotel nights + 18 meals out = um, not this time. (TGD is there to meet up and research with a math colleague.)
I’ve found something that has helped me with my Bible time. Perhaps this idea will help you as well. Some days I take a chapter and copy it by hand into a notebook. Why do I do this? It helps me to slow down and concentrate on the words. I have the chance to notice things I might have missed if I were simply reading it. I notice connections between other passages and ponder what words and ask myself questions. I diagram the sentences in my mind and really look at what is going on. Try it!
What Bible study tips have helped you?

You have some very nice gifts for Mother’s Day for United Kingdom celebrations.
We went up to my Nans for Sunday lunch today as my Mum entertained last year or it could have been the year before for Mothers Day.
Happy Mother’s Day! Best Bible study tip that has worked for me was to just read a couple of pages at a time and not try to do LOTS all at once. I’ve also given up starting at the beginning and reading to the end…I always got stuck in Leviticus ( or the begats in the NT) and then would give up. LOL! Now I pick a chapter, read a couple of pages at a time, then when I finish that chapter I pick another…
That is odd….I guess I never really thought about it being early…wonder why. Hmmm… Your tradition is neat!
Not sure what I do for my Bible study. Maybe look up words that we generally take for granted, write the meaning in my own words, the proper definition from several dictionaries, and….a Bible dictionary….where do I get the Bible dictionary? Go to BlueLetterBible.com and you can pick any word and look through the verses till you find the one you were thinking of, or get the biblical definition in their Bible dictionary. Ok, so maybe I do know what I do for my Bible studies! LOL.
Hey, have you ever thought of seeing any of the Beatrix Potter museums that are in the London area? I ask b/c I am doing a term paper on her, and it would be neat to see some real live shots from there. Just wondering?! =P
RYC: We do love our fur babies.
Happy Mother’s Day. God bless you.

Mmm…Pizza Hut…sounds good to me! I could definitely go for some deep dish right about now!
I read my Bible online, where I can check it off each day when I’m done. It helps me to be able to keep up with it somewhere where I won’t lose the list!
Post pictures? Of the musical? You’re going to get sick of them all!
I’m going to be, hopefully, taking pictures this Tuesday…posting soon to follow!!!
And, happy English Mother’s Day!
You’re making me really envious with those daffodils, you know. I am SO ready for spring and summer!!!
Sounds like a wonderful Mother’s day! The King and I was fabulous and I am sorry you could not see it! I am looking forward to seeing your Mum tomorrow with the suitcase laden with goodies! Hope you all do well without TGD!!

Well happy Mum’s Day!! Glad you enjoyed it!
Happy Mum’s Day to you!!
I haven’t tried writing passages out…but I do try to write out my praying as often as possible, since that seems to help me stay focused.
My only “tip” is to carve out specific time to read… I like to read while the kids watch Sesame Street
You scared me for a minute!
Happy Mother’s day!
ryc: it’s $3.19 right now but it has been jumping up and down since the new year. it was under $3 for a week or two, then boom, jumped up 15 cents in a day.
i read a chapter a day when i go to get dressed. i’m awake then, and it is a nice break from work stuff. i’m reading it in order because it reminds me very much of something i used to do with my grandparents when i was a kid.
hope you have a happy mother’s day..
can u give your msn for me to make a friend?

Thanks for that link! So many times over here I’ve wanted to do more of a word study and missed my concordance. No plans to see anything BPotter while here. We don’t have a car, and her things aren’t on a train line.
How neat that you were able to celebrate Mother’s Day early. Now, are you going to celebrate it in May as well, like I might consider doing, lol?
Happy Mum’s Day! I hope you get to celebrate in May as well. Might as well take advantage
I keep my bible next to my bed. It’s ready and waiting for me first thing in the morning.
Blessings,
Renee

Happy Mum’s Day to you! I really like your idea about copying the Bible. Sounds like a wonderful way to hide God’s Word in our hearts. I used to read one chapter each morning. I had planned on rereading that same chapter in the evening to reinforce what I had read and help me remember it, but I don’t think I ever did that. Now I’m reading a One Year Bible my dd18 gave me for Christmas. I’m behind, but I’ll catch up!
Re: your email: It worked! Thank you, thank you!
That’s too bad about not being able to go to Norway with him. Of course, I’m already jealous that you’re where you are while I’m suffering thru an interminably long mid-west winter, imagine me turning green if you were in Norway!
@wayne1960 -
What would cheer you up is to post a new entry and get lots and lots of comments. I’m sure of it.
I love your Bible tip. I’m going to have to try that!! I don’t really have any tips to pass along.. other than I do read the chapter of Proverbs that corresponds with the day.
RYC: my dad doesn’t even know what a blog is let alone that I have one.. LOL..
I have a pen-pal in England that I would love to have someone visit and share the Gospel with her. We have been writing to each for 25 years now but we have never met. I’ve witnessed to her many times through the mail, but to no avail. At least not yet. But I don’t think you are near her. Not that you would want to do that, but it’s something I’ve always dreamed of. =)
i know right! lol ahaha for a second i thought i forgot all about mothers day! yikes! lol
RYC: I think it was neat that my niece and nephew were able to go with us too. It was a very nice thing, to see them relax and have fun like kids
also, i did turn stars off.
and i feel weird leaving my avatar
on your pretty site. so here is another.
@porcupinesol -
At first I thought, “Why would she not want to leave that avatar?” Then I realized what it was. Thanks for the alternate picture. Got to keep those young eyes reading this site protected.
I’ve always wanted to ask you how you pronounce you Xanga name. porcupine-SOL or porcu-PINE-SOL or some other way. Either way, it reminds me of a porcupine with yellow rubber gloves smelling of cleaning solution. I like it!
it is porcupine + pinesol. like the second way you said. it’s a cute little portmanteau. maybe i should make a xanga banner with that image! oh if only i had a tablet pc! (i cannot draw with a mouse.) once again, i leave you with an alternate avatar.
Well Happy Mother’s Day, to you! Sounds like you had a pleasant day. I finally feel almost normal.
Tonight is the last night of my current Bible study group. Last time I was in the local book store, I saw a book by Beth Moore titled ‘”Ninety Day with Jesus”. I might go get that and see what it is about. Your Bible reading tip sounds like a good one. Last week I was very lax in my Bible study.
I begin this week with new resolve!
HAVE A JOLLY MUM’S DAY!!
Your comment you left cracked me up, because I was indeed adding “sunshine” to xanga this afternoon- but it was a private post, because I had to edit some photos to post…so the only think I had added was a gif called “Sunshine”.
I have the post public with photos now.
Cheerio-

Happiest of Mothers Days to you!
My kids used to do Bible Quizzing. They learned chapters of a particular book of the Bible verbatem each month. Then they had interrogative questions about each verse. They would form teams and compete with their knowledge. Going over the questions with them made me realize there was so much more to a verse than I had initially realized. THIS is what helped me to take apart Scripture in deeper detail. For instance: John 3:16 (everyone knows this verse…) the questions would be:
Who loves the world? (God) What does God love? (The world) What did God give? His only Son Why did God give his only Son? So that whoever shall believe in Him will not perish but have everlasting life Who shall not perish? Whoever believes in Him What does whoever believes in Him have? Everlasting life
Breaking a difficult verse apart in questions has been helpful to me and gives me better understanding to the depth of the verse. Plus, when you spend this much time breaking it apart, it just kind of ‘sticks’ with you.
Ready for the Houserville invasion in a few days?
I always thought it was interesting that you can find so many American fast-food type places in Europe. Happy Mother’s Day
I scribble all over my Biblical margins.
aww happy late/early mother’s day.
@eatyourweightincheesepuffs -
Yes, yes, yes! I never thought of you as the Houserville Invasion, but now I will. HAR!
I don’t have a tried and true method for Bible study to share, but I’m glad that you shared yours. I love gleaning ideas and wisdom from others.
Happy Mum Day! What helps me is to have a plan. I’ve been reading daily, a biographic study guide…each week I read about a specific person, it’s been a lot of fun and very fulfilling.
Happy Belated Mothers Day!
You have such a gift for expression. I don’t know what it is but I’m finding myself truly drawn to your Xanga page. But then I rather enjoy surrounding myself with good Christian people so I’m sure that’s part of it!
God Bless,
Eddie
(and Happy Mama’s Day!)
So what day is Father’s Day over there????
Sometimes I like to take the passage I’ve read and convert it into a prayer, writing it out in a journal. I started this with the Psalms at one time. I’ve also done passage copying as well. You are right, it makes you slow down and notice things.
Well, it is a very nice tradition you have!
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY(LATE)
cool nice story!
