Knock, Knock. Who’s There? Pomegranate.
The other day I was at Wal-Mart and saw a pomegranate. Now, being from central PA, a pomegranate is about as exotic as it comes. It evokes images of Persephone and Hades and that girl in my art history class in college who ate a pomegranate during a lecture (which was the first time I ever saw such a fruit and was proud of myself for figuring out what it was). So, I bought that pomegranate.
It sat on the counter for about two weeks. Today, I cut it open.
Now, if you are a pomegranate neophyte like myself, you may not know that you only eat the seeds. And, when you try to separate the seeds from the fruit, and amazing amount of purple juice will shoot everywhere. Truly everywhere.
The seeds taste like sour grapes, not at all bad. And, you get a surprising number of them from one pom. (Look at me! Using pomegranate slang!)
Now, time to spread some holiday cheer. I hope you get a smile or two!Knock Knock

P.S.–I joined a blogring, but I’m not sure I qualify. It’s “Grownups with Content Worth Being Featured.” Am I worth being featured? (Or, is it the “grownup” part that has me wondering?)

I had some sweeter Pom’s already that were so good!
I use them on wreaths ,they have such a pretty color.
So glad that you liked my pic! It is my niece and a lady from my church.

I use the whol fruit but I bet the seeds would string and dry
http://www.recipezaar.com/45549 here is a recipr for chocolate covered Pom seeds
http://homecooking.about.com/library/archive/blfruit55.htm and a long list of recipes for them.
I confess to being pom-illeterate. I had no idea you just eat the seeds-*sigh* you learn something new every day..
I LOVED the knock-knock jokes. I’ve never heard of any of these and can’t wait to share them with my youngest children. Thank you!
I have never heard most of theses jokes
Thanks for passing through, friend. You are always welcome. I am proud of anyone who can spell pomegranate correctly. We love them here in the Hat house. When I was a kid, pom or sugar cane were considered to be a great treat! Mrs. Hat had not had a pom as a kid and was not interested in trying it until she found out grenadine is made from poms. Then, I guess, it was no longer just some redneck thing. lol
Thanks for the jokes. I shall be re-using them later today. I am glad you got to spend time with a xanga friend. I have enjoyed a lot of that. One young lady soent the summer with us. She likes to shock her friends at college by saying “I met this man online and spent the summer at his house.” =) Beware an English major with a sharp wit.

You are way too FUN to be a real grown-up! I love the cross mouse cards one! LOL! Pomegranates…I had one once, but got sick from something else I ate when I ate it, and just can’t bring myself to try one again, even though I KNOW it was the cheese-filled hotdogs ( an old boyfriend got them) I ate that made me sick. It did taste good, the pomegranate. And they are beautiful!
Fun Fun Fun!!!
I Love Poms Too
Join the Pom Gang!!!!!
What happens if you eat the pomegranate flesh?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You are soooooooo funny! You are the one person I would least expect to spell a word wrong, Ms. English. (Mary is the word I am talking about btw. ^_^)
~Libby~
Yeah, you can probably tell that I have never seen the inside of a pomegranate by that comment!
In Xanga’s help section it’ll tell you the code you need for changing names of stuff. I need to come up with some new name changes for new people. There are three lines of code in the middle that you copy and paste and use as many times as you want to change names.
As far as pomegranates, I’ve noticed that pom is accepted by Scrabulous (Scrabble application on face book), although it’s not in the Scrabble dictionary, and not found by the Scrabble word finder. I guess pom is slowly becoming a word.
As far as grace, it seems like it’s been replaced by the fear and impatience of men. If we tell people that God loves them and is still going to save them even if they don’t change a thing in their lives, they might continue living the same way. We couldn’t tolerate that, so let’s get them to think otherwise. Let’s judge and classify people according to their behavior. Let’s condemn people for what they can’t control and can’t save themselves from, thinking that they can quit if they would just try, although, real addictions and behavioral problems don’t go away so easily. Let’s even hold spiritual sight and hearing problems against people who Christ has accepted and make up standards we think people should be meeting. If the truth was told about grace, people could start going to God out of LOVE, rather than fear of rejection or condemnation. God would then be seen as loving, forgiving, and merciful, rather than as a judging, condemning rule-giver.
I’ve seen the benefits of believing in grace already. I don’t usually even care if I’ve been bad. I’m no longer afraid to go to God, and that’s just so perfect because if anything is gonna get me to stop being bad, it’s Him.
I’m glad that you like telling jokes, mom….
By the way, I gave you 5 stars!
My British side is emerging…..I like the loo one!
loved the humor; most of them were new to me.
i had a pom years ago, but haven’t bought another one since. did you know if you run water in the sink, and take the seeds out underwater, there isn’t nearly the splashing of the juice all over everything?
You certainly qualify for the blogring! Your posts are always interesting.
I tried a pomegranate once on a friend’s recommendation. She loves them. I’m not especially fond of having to spit seeds out of my mouth. But is was fun getting the little squirt of juice. Now I understand why pomegranate juice is so expensive!
Have a Merry Mary Christmas!
Pom = too much work to enjoy it….. thanks, but no thanks….
Cute jokes… Livvy will love them!
Pomegranates… are those those fruits that somewhat resemble tomatoes except that they’re much firmer and more pinkish/purplish/somethingish than red? I need to look up a picture of one on google before I make a fool of myself and submit this comment. Except I have too many pages open and if I open another my computer my freeze, so I’ll risk the stupidity first. If pomegranates are indeed what I think they are… I had no idea you were supposed to eat only the seeds! I ate the whole thing… and thought it tasted funny but interesting.
Love the reindeer joke.
Ohhhh! Nevermind. I was thinking of a persimmons. Persimmon? Er… those things. My last name is Simmons and suddenly I’m formulating a corny joke…
I just picked blogrings which sound interesting
Everyone tries to get themselves featured but how the entries are picked are sometimes constroversery.
I will be amazed if one of my entries get featured.
It was TOTALLY a compliment! It means you are still young at heart and FUN! I am big on fun…so in my little world, that’s a huge plus!
Excellent Post! I was in a bad mood when I sat down here but you have lifted my spirit! Thanks.
Our movie night is whenever a good new movie comes out.

I remember my first pomegranate. It was in Ethiopia, when I was about 6.
The Eskimo joke is the best one!
We really like pom’s in our house, but they are indeed messy. How did your classmate eat one during her lector, seems impossible. If you really like the pom you should try some of the many, new pom flavored products. We really love pomegranate flavored Italian Soda, try looking around Wegman’s for some it’s YUMMY!!!
You know, of course, that these jokes should have come with a “groan alert”.
I love the slow reindeer fast one.
And I never noticed the stars. Thanks for pointing them out!
Have you heard: What’s the difference between an elephant an asprin?
They’re both small white things. Except for the elephant.
Oh my goodness, I love pom seeds! I could eat them by the bucketload.
You deserve to be featured.
Well done for getting featured
Finally I am able to get on your site without getting disconnect everytime I click on submit.. lol
Anyway, I never try a pomegranate myself. I think my daddy loves those. I guess the oportunity never happen for me to taste it.
Oh yea, you are worth to be featured in.
So…What does “ENFP” mean??? lol
Merry
Great post! Loved the jokes. Thanks for the laugh!
Oh, and thanks for the comment..
Thanks. I have many xangas…but they are all not active anymore.
Thank you.
I hope someone left me a nice flannel blanket, I hear those mangers can get pretty cold this time of year!
I liked the one about the reindeer and the grape and the one about the ig especially. The first one I mentioned reminds me of one of my favorite jokes: “What’s the difference between a duck? Answer, one leg’s the same.”
Pomegranate juice is stainy! The bottled juices are good, I think. Interesting food. I’ve always wanted to see pistachios on the tree too.
I am surprised you are not a member of that blog ring already!
