50,203Need I say more?
Well, I will anyhow. Without trying to sound like I just won an Academy Award, I offer thanks. Thank you TheGoodDoctorJ (for not rolling his eyes too often when I said, “I’m going to write now.”)
, englishwestern
(without whom there would be no Lord Farley), arohk,(who explains weapons better than anyone else), Mamaglop (who actually read some of it and said kind things), Hobbits8 (for all that Facebook encouragement), and most especially AimeeAnne
( who asked me to do this in the first place and sent me all sorts of lovely things in the mail and is coming in person in a week!).Feel free to congratulate some other NaNo winners–
rachelstarr, kirby1960, and momtoH_VandJ. LaDamedeShallotand Ilassie (who didn’t win yet, but I know they will!) are worth congratulating as well.
Now, someone is sure to ask, “When can I read this great American novel?” Here’s what
Vladimir Nabokov had to say about reading rough drafts. “Only
ambitious nonentities and hearty mediocrities exhibit their rough drafts.
It’s like passing around samples of sputum.”
Since I certainly fall into the hearty mediocrity camp, I’ll have to say, “Sure, you can read my spit!” But, beware. The plot fluctuates more than a shadow in firelight. The characters aren’t sure who they are supposed to be and change their personalities as often a five year old changes her clothes. I randomly wrote things and left big, giant gaps when I grew bored with a scene. This novel is by no means finished, and who knows if it ever will be?
Anyhoo, thanks for all your encouragement along the way. We’re having Domino’s and a movie to celebrate. Whoop! Whoop!

WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!! I’m so incredibly proud of you!!! (BRAVO!!!)
I have to say that your quote: “Since I certainly fall into the hearty mediocrity camp, I’ll have to say, ‘Sure, you can read my spit!’ “
This comment alone is worthy of an award. That totally cracked me up!!!! (rotfl) I would be honored to read your “spit”!!! In fact, I’m most excited about it.
Your favorite Boobie-Belt Wearer, Cass
Congratulations, dear! I am second on the comments to this entry, but you are first in my heart!
I am thrilled for you for completing your NaNoWriMo project!!!
Yea, you!!! Enjoy your celebratory pizza and movie! Way to go!!!
Congrats!! Why don’t you give us the cliff notes?
ryc: Thank you for the info…I will definitely look into it…I have checked Sonlight out a little before, but not very in depth. I would love to see what books they use and reccomend.
Thanks again…and congrats on the writing!
congratulations!
♫ Congratulations! ♫ (I gave you a standing ‘O’)
Yay!! Congrats on making it that far.. I sure would like to read it.
Congratulations on getting this far!
Fortunately for me, all my “rewriting” happens soon after I make a mistake. Just had to take out about 8 rows and redo–no fun!
Anyway, as far as this (“Let’s race for you to have yours in a matte board and me with a manuscript to turn into a publisher!”) goes, it’s a deal! Can we do it in less than 2 more years?
Very cool!!
Here’s an idea for you… assuming you’re going to write another one some day, instead of hitting it cold some time in the future, start a new file now and jot down little notes for characters and situations and settings you’d like to include, so that you can jot these things down while they’re still fresh and fun. That way your next one can be more fun, pulling out of a basket of your own precompiled ideas, instead of ‘forcing yourself to write’ so much and hitting the brick wall, so to speak.
I think the prescribed xangan was ‘karenjudith’. You may even remember meeting her in person many years ago.. I’m not sure. I don’t think I knew you back then either… only TgDJ.
I think I rather like this Vladimir Nabokov guy. I’m going to copy that quote and save it for those moments when people start pestering me about my stories. They will get quite sick of hearing me say it after awhile, I’m sure.
I can’t wait to read your rough draft, though! I enjoyed the play quite a lot and I’m partial to the story in the first place, so I have a feeling I shall like it. Congratulations again! It’s been quite fun doing this with you, and you make a very good cheer leader.
Whoops. This is Brittany, by the way. Apparently my sister did not sign out of her xanga.
Congrats!
And I just read your comment on my pulse. lol Um, I guess a little bit of both CarbAddict & tired mom!
Congratulations are in order. I was happy to be of service. I’d offer to read it now, but I’m gonna be swamped with Finals (how exciting!).
Huzzah for teacherperson, the great American authoress!
Congrats!
congratulations….
Yay!! Congrats…nothing says celebration more than not having to cook dinner, eeh? Hope that you enjoyed your pizzas!
Well, congratulations!! How fun! I do not think I could write 50,000 words in any attempt to make any type of story at all. So I applaud you, even though it might not ever be a New York Times Bestseller.
You did it!! And with 203 words to spare!! I’d say that definitely calls for a pizza celebration.
Maybe I’ll do it next year since you had so much success with it.
Congrats!
You rock!
I would love to read it.
Congratulations!
AWESOMENESS!!!!
Yaaay good job!!!
Congratulations! That’s quite an accomplishment!
Lol! Brittany explained what happened. it’s really kinda funny, and it isn’t the first time this has happened either. This is the way I meet all Britt’s xanga friends.*smile* It’s nice to meet you, Mrs. Sellers, I’m Katie.
I just came from Katia’s site & saw your comment. Dara is pronounced like Sarah, only with a D. Sorry to impose on your “conversation” with Katia, but I’m proud of my daughter.
Woo Hoo! You did it!
And you may have inspired my future English Teacher (?) to write her own novel in the process!
Your commitment and discipline for this project may bear other unexpected fruits.
Hearty congratulations! You did it! I have been very busy with end of the quarter stuff, and haven’t kept up, but I will enjoy reading this and writing more on Christmas break.
Oh, yeah! I love it! I’ll walk around the house and randomly quote it to Mom and SG93. Lol. They’re like, “Huh??”. It’s so much fun… And Romeo is great. *Sigh* I think I’m in live…
Whoops! *love. I think I’m in love.
Congratulations! Hats off to you for your tenacity. Even the story does have gaps, I am TOTALLY impressed that you stuck with it! Gaps can be filled, after all.
You’ve made it all sound fun…maybe someday I’ll try it…
Maybe.
