  • Happy Birthday!

Today is Melchisedec’s 16th. Happy birthday to her!

Thursday is the happy day for TheDramaQueen2, RuthGreen, and PSUFanInTX. (And two of them will be the same age as me.)  Happy birthdays to all of them.

Friday will be MY birthday! Yes, it’s that cheerful, jolly time of year again, when my aging is official!  I’m the same age as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger, Cate Blanchett,  and Gwen Stefani.

Now, like most people, I like birthday presents. Unlike most people, the thought of the birthday present is just as good as the present in many instances. (Which would have saved TGD a great deal of money, I’m sure!)

What would you like to give me for my birthday?  Yes, I’m a shameless beggar, but it won’t cost you a thing.

And Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!

  • Ah, my oldest was born on the 24th. In fact, it was Thanksgiving when he made his debut! We’re all eager to see what your b’day brings! I’m sure your family will fete you well!

  • I’m giving you a brand new car.  Look for it in the mail….

  • Okay, I thought you were joking when you said you were the same age as Gwen Stefani. Ha! Then I googled her and found out you are telling the truth. The woman is 38! Eee-gads! She acts like she is about 25! And dresses it too. Now, I am all for looking younger than your age and staying youthful, but yikes. I would much rather say I was the same age as Catherine Zeta Jones and Cate Blanchett. They are both so sophisticated and mature yet they both look gorgeous and they seem to really enjoy their lives without all the belly dancing and tattoos. I too am 38 since July. ’69 was a good year for smart beautiful women. P.S. you present is in the mail. Have a wonderful birthday!!!

  • Happy birthday early and happy Thanksgiving early! For your birthday…a (((((((BIG HUG))))))) and warm wishes for a very happy day! If I were sending ANYTHING, I’d send LOTS of chocolate, a bottle of champagne and some bubble bath, so you could pamper yourself that day. :)

  • hhaapppppyyyybirthday mel!! and i give a hearty and appreciative snigger at your comments three…

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mel!  And to everyone else, but I don’t know that I know them all.   And since I won’t be around 4 your birthday I guess i’ll wish you a happy birthday now! SOOOOO HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!  So here is your birthday present from me all wrapped up in a xanga mini!! WOO!

  • Oooooooo! it even moves!!!!  COOL!

  • I thought you were 32?

Anyway, I still can’t get over how great the costumes for the play were.  Everyone looked so great.

My b-day gift to you is a poem, that I am still working on.

RYC- we go to my mom and dad’s.  Much like church, school events and marriage counseling Hubby does not usually come.  Who knows what will happen though.  We are bringing the appetizers.

  • Happy Birthday to Melchisedec,TheDramaQueen2, RuthGreen, and PSUFanInTX.  Even tho I do not know them but wishing them a well Birthday..   As for yours!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! in case I don’t say it on that day.. :)      You look way way young for your age.. You are looking very good!! I hope I look good as you when I get there..  :)

  • *ears perk at the name of Cate Blanchett*

I would get you a year supply of chocolate, pink bubble bath, and a $5000 gift card to Amazon.   Too bad I’m a poor high school student…

  • Haha…I see someone already had the same idea.  We know you too well I suppose.

  • Well, I think I should give you a copy of The Hiding Place. :)

  • happy early birthday!

  • Hi Mary, your question about why the US dollar is falling is a complicated one, and I don’t claim to understand it completely myself.  Unfortunately, there are so many “smoke & mirror” articles on the web about “money” that if you do a Google search you could spend hours looking without finding an answer.  Probably the best article that I have read regarding money was written by Alan Greenspan back in 1966 (yes, the same Greenspan who would later go on to be the Fed Chairman for so many years).  The article looks a little complicated at first, but it’s really not if you read it slowly & carefully, and it gives a very good explanation of what money really is in the first place, why banks came into existence, and later on the Federal Reserve and the move away from the Gold Standard.  It won’t answer your question directly, but if you can digest & understand it, you’ll probably be able to answer your own question (or at least have a warm fuzzy feeling about it, which may be the best any of us can expect!).  Here is one of many links available for the article:  http://www.constitution.org/mon/greenspan_gold.htm

    Hope that helps!Blaine Staat

  • Happy Early Birthday! You can relax, you are younger than I am (I think). I think I would send you an unending supply of chocolate chip cookies, and a new version of Pride and Prejudice. How does that sound?

  • Happy almost birthday!! I’d give you chocolate. Yum. Enjoy! And Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

  • pistolpink (now mrs. sarah mays)was born on the 24th too… on thanksgiving day… 30 years ago… so she’s finally turning 30 this saturday. this is the only year that i am exactly twice her age. :) BTW, I’m the same age as Dr. laura Schlesinger, Bill clinton, Sally Fields……….. so many! This year someone turned 60 every 7 seconds (at least that’s what I heard)

  • RYC; I’d say you are indeed a feminist, just not an activist one! For that matter, my grandmother was a feminist before the word even existed, because she operated under the assumption that a woman could do anything she put her mind to, deserved to be treated fairly and paid equaly, and should also have the self determination to support a family even if her husband walked out on them.  Happy Birthday!!! I go a bit goofy over birthdays too, we never celebrated them when I was a kid, so now I make a big deal out of them. Same age as Catherine and Renee eh? You’re in good company!

  • I’m giving you tickets to the Broadway show of your choice.  Enjoy!

And of course, a little chocolate.

  • Happy Birthday!  How about dinner at the Tavern?

  • Happy birthday, Mary! I hope it’s a wonderful day and weekend for you. As far as a birthday gift goes, I don’t know. I’d give you a trip to England, but you’ve already got that. I’m looking forward to your journaling about your trip while you’re there.

  • Happy birthday!!

  • Thanks a bunch!!!

  • Ingrid Michaelson The Way I Am

  • haha   I must say, that is one…….creative way to look at it!! lol  Yeah, some people thought that it was salad!!  haha

  • I would get you Bath & Body Works vanilla bubble bath, lotion and scented candle.  Wrapped in a perfect package top with a BN gift card for a new Jane Austen spin-off book.

  • Thanks for subbing.  Happy birthday.  And Happy Thanksgiving.

  • Okay.  Yes.  You are still younger than me.  We took care of that for this year.

I would send you a box of petit fours, some specialty teas and a gadget for organizing all those tote bags (come to think of it, I think Lillian Vernon sells something to that effect)  But your tote bags are probably all full of library books.

Happy Birthday!!  We’re still young for our age.

  • Yes. I know.  You’re still younger than me.  Now we’ve taken care of that.

I would give you a box of petit fours, some specialty teas and a contraption for organizing all those tote bags. (I believe Lillian Vernon sells something to that effect – can you tell I’ve been catalog shopping?)  But your tote bags are probably all full of library books and the contraption would be destroyed from the sheer weight.

Oh, I’d also get you a hardcover copy of the little novel you’re writing this month just for the fun of it!  If I was a publisher, I would print a few thousand copies and send them out to Barnes & Noble just in time for are those browsing Christmas shoppers!  That could take care of all your Christmas bills this year!

    Happy Birthday!

  • Oops.  I didn’t realize that my first comment got posted.  I forgot to say Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Can I ask why you don’t add water? I can see my learning is going to continue.

  • Happy Birthday to you all!! =)

  • Oh happy birthday to you! So—what is my gift to you? It’s a pampering session at your local spa :)

  • Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Happiest of birthdays to you!! I hope your day is terrific & amazing and more than perfect . . . and, if I could give you any present in the world, it would definitely be like an unlimited gift card to Amazon.com. I have an inkling you just might like it.

    Birthday cyber hugs!
    katie

  • Happy Birthday!!!

  • I can’t believe I missed your birthday!!!  We have been enjoying a houseful of kids again, and it has been great.  I think the best gifts are gifts you would like to receive, and a combination of practical and just for fun ones.  Ummm, my belated gift to you is… a comfy pair of slippers that look a little like street shoes, so if you get caught in pajamas again, at least you will look like your shoes are on, and some of those moon boot things that have big ‘c’ shaped springs on the bottom.
