  • What I’ve Been Doing

Admiring the orange, sparkly wall in my living room.

Working on my NaNoWriMo Novel (12, 482 words so far this month).

    Being sick

Driving, driving, driving–about 375 miles a week or so, just to run the kids to this and that.

Doing school when I’m not being sick or driving

What have you been  up to?

  • lately, I have been trying to do my alg homework, just to realise that I already did it!! MAN! That was a bummer! I almost finished it too, then I was about to save it and that’s when I realised that it was already done…  lol   Oh well….

WOW!! Now that’s a lot of driving just to take the fam to activities!

  • Hope you feel better soon! What a warm and inviting room! Love it! I drove my younger son to school this morning! After being cooped up in the house for a few weeks, it was GREAT to get out! I am anxious to return to our normal schedule soon I hope. :)

  • Is that Venetian plaster?  Yum!  Sorry about the sicky, but yay for Nyquil!

  • Nice wall indeed. Are you going to make your novel public? Hope you feel better asap!

  • wonderful photos, beautiful wall.  Me?  holding a baby that really likes to be held… all the time.  (except for right at this moment….aaah)

  • getting ready for Pistolpink’s wedding reception this coming Saturday (I’m doing the food)…

  • Nice wall!

I’ve been changing diapers, feeding kids, and not a whole lot else.  Hope that you’re feeling well again by now!

  • Your living room looks great!

  • Oh wow…the living room looks awesome!! That’s a new couch, right?

  • Yes, I heard the rumor from the newlyweds that you were getting snow up there! Not a flake here yet! School’s going okay. I don’t feel like my heart is really in it, though. I feel stuck still. I need to be patient with myself, I suppose. I do like my lit and art classes. But overall, I’m not sure I’m doing a great job for the kids. :( I know this too will pass….

  • The room looks lovely. I’m sorry you’ve been sick.

  • Getting ready to host Penn State’s first-ever Conference on Undergraduate Research in Mathematics.  Sounds pretty exciting, eh?!?!

  • Hey, your paint job looks really nice! It appears neither sparkly nor orange to me, more of a nice muted orangeish-brownish-maybe-even-brick-red-ish with a really nice texture to it. Me like.

I was feeling good about the NaNo thing until today. I haven’t written a single word. I was gone this morning, I squandered lunchtime doing frivelous things online, then I spent the majority of the afternoon typing up several pages for my mom’s Bible study and the rest of the afternoon moping because my fingers were soooo tired and I was already behind as it was. In fact, my fingers are aching this very moment and pleading with me in their not-so-subtle way for me to end this comment and get off! Yes, I’m online when I should be writing, but I’ve been on less than five minutes because I needed to check something and now I really out to get off before my fingers fall off.

  • Who would have thought an orange wall could look so nice!  I love it!  I’m sorry that you’re sick.   That’s no fun.

What am I up to?  I just came back from trying to recruit some actors at youth group for my drama team.  I took a video from GodTube to show that we’d like to perform as a drama in the next few weeks as it fits in with what Mike will be preaching on.

ryc:  I know flutemom from the co-op I belonged to in PA.

  • Beautiful room!

What I’ve been doing?  School.  Babysitting my little sister.  Working on a Christmas present.  Stressing out over my vet’s interview which I discovered, today, that I have about three days to prepare for.  Wasting time…reading…not a whole lot else.

  • Much as I’d like to answer your question, I’m afraid I can’t exactly do so based on the amount of information you’ve given. Since I don’t want to be an instrument in spoilers, however, I’ll explain further in an email (I still have your address).

  • I am NOT writing a novel this month.

I REALLY like the new wall color and the new couch.

I am trying to catch up on e-mails at the moment.  We’ve been to church today, an All Saints Day party, I dropped Sylvia off at her class, went to Dollar General and had French Toast for dinner.  I have not made French Toast in ages!  My mom is recovering well from her thyroidectomy (on Tues).  I also visited a florist on-line today.

Been to Bethelbrook yet?  I do get such a good feeling when I get that blog updated!

  • RYC: We rent a house, and it doesn’t have a washer or a dryer, so we go to the laundromat that’s about a mile from our home. :)

I hope you’ll be feeling better very soon.

I’ve been doing school with my dds. I also started my NaNo novel today – word count 3,543, meaning I’m 7% done! LOL! (I found a neat Excel program to track the percentage done, complete with a pie chart! Message me with your email if you’d like it.)

  • P.S. I really like your living room!

  • I love your new wall. Beautiful. I pray you get well. God bless you.

    Cynthia

  • I really like your new wall!

  • Love the new wall, it looks really good.

  • What great pics! I love how it gives us a ‘feel’ for your world in a unique way……as though we’re llokin’ outta your eyeballs!

Thank you for your faithful comments on my xanga……..sorry I’m not so faithful to comment on yours, but i do enjoy reading, and a lot of times, skimming!

Life’s been very full and interesting for me the last 2 months, lots of change and intensity behind the scenes of xanga, but God is working. someday, maybe I’ll get to shre more whne and if the Lord lets me.

It’s all good in Him! God bless you and yours Mary! Becky :)

  • Working, working, working on our Jane Austen ball coming up this weekend: sewing costumes, learning new dances (2 more that we see in the Pride and Prejudice movie!), cutting the music for it, prepping for the workshop, counting the plates and napkins….

  • The wall is not what I was expecting.  I had visions of BOLD, bright orange and was somewhat cringing at the thought.  The color from the picture seems close to the color I picked for our living room.  I call it terra cotta flowerpot.

Today is doctor appointment @ 3:00, dentist appointment @ 5:00, grocery store afterwards,  and finally a fast food drive thru to bring dinner home to your sick brother.  I would feel bad for him, but I had the same cold last week and he wasn’t very understanding.  Maybe this is what he gets for telling me it couldn’t be that bad! HA!

As far as a cranberry dish for turkey day, I found a recipe that doesn’t seems too icky.  I don’t care for very many cranberry things.

Now off to start a Christmas list for your Mom, as per her request.

    See you soon.

  • just passing through, thought I’d say “HI”

love the wall;is it wall paper , faux painting or venetian plaster.?

    the color looks great!

  • Nice picturesque update!  I don’t know what I’ve been doing lately, but it’s been taking up a lot of time.

  • Do you know what those bums at Vicks have done? They’ve taken the decongestant out of their Nyquil. That is so cheesy! Yes, I know it’s because of people making meth from pseudoephedrine, but they ought to at least add in the other decongestant (phenylephrine) that you can buy OTC to replace it.

What is a cold medicine without a decongestant? Well, it’s this: acetaminophen (Tylenol), which you can take any time by itself, and the cough suppressant, dextromethorphan, which has been shown to be useless for coughs, and an antihistamine, which mainly helps with allergies. OK, so the antihistamine might make you sleepy so you can rest, but still……harummph!

So, I guess you can tell I’ve been sick, too. This was a bad one. I thought I was going to cough up a lung.

Oh, but the good part.. I’ve been taking care of grandsons and welcoming a new one! That makes everything else pale in comparison.

  • Hello, Deary!!

It’s been weeks & weeks (I think!) since I’ve even looked at xanga!  Many, many are the reasons — like you, illness has been a huge deterrent, then, I found out that I could crochet!  It started out as just a few scarves I was knitting for my girls for Christmas, but, for several weeks, now, I’ve been crocheting afghans!  I’ve made 3 & am working on the 4th for gifts, plus, I made a shawl for myself.  The one I’m working on is a very time consuming pattern for a friend who is having a housewarming party this Saturday & I want to get it done in time.  It takes almost 15 minutes per row… and that’s at a fairly good speed!  Multiply that by 109 rows, and you’ve got…. well, a gift made with LOTS of love!  If I ever make this pattern again, I’ll make shorter rows and use a much larger hook……. but, if I do say so myself….. it’s gorgeous!!!  It’s a zig-zag pattern with rows of different colors at various intervals.

One hitch, though….. my friend told me her new couch was “robin’s egg blue”, but, I had such a hard time finding that exact color!  She also mentioned she thought it might be “sky blue” & I got a color as close to that as I could, but, wasn’t sure if hers had a hint of green to it or not.  I did the best I could and the color is beautiful, but,….. I checked out her couch on-line (to be delivered on Saturday!) and the color is definitely more of a turquoise & mine is definitely sky blue.  Oh, well!  Maybe she can use it in her bedroom, instead.  So, the colors are: sky blue, milk chocolate, tan, cream, black, multi (kind of a marbled effect of blues, browns, cream and tan), & dark chocolate.  I plan on doing a post sometime soon and will put pictures of the afghans and the scarves I’ve been working on.

ANother bit of news is, my husband lost his job this past Friday.  He got “the call” that Monday on the drive home from work…. didn’t even give him a full week notice, how poopy is that?  (pardon my french! ;P) But, he’s actually pretty glad.  He was just so worn out from flying back and forth across the state 5 days a week that it came as a relief, to be honest.  He’s gonna try his hand at making money in the stock market &, if that doesn’t work, he wants to try finanical planning.  We’re doing fine, though, and are sure that God isn’t gonna have us begging out on the street next month, even if the job is bad.

O.k….. I gotta get back to… whatever it was that I was doing before! Oh, yeah….. CROCHETING!!! Ha!!  I can’t wait to get this one done!!!

Take care & get better!! I’ll be around!

  • Hey, Lady!!

I just typed you a huge comment & lost it ‘cuz I wasn’t signed in….. never had that happen before…. hmmm!

Anyway, too long to retype everything,….. just know that I’ve been thinking of ya!  Hope you get better soon.  I’ve become a crocheting fiend and I’m making afghans for everyone on my gift list!! Well…. I’ll be making my girls shawls, but, my mom, sister, and a few friends will have nice, warm afghans either as Christmas, wedding, or housewarming gifts.

Talk to ya another time! Take care & get better!! (We’ve been sick a lot here, too!)

  • Hey!! Looky there! I didn’t lose my post after all!! It didn’t show up before…… so now you get three….. three…… three posts in one….. er, somethin’ like that! AJ

  • Are you better yet? I love the new look to your living room! You are inspiring me to think about what we need to do to ours.

  • Yeah, Ghosty almost killed me for putting her picture on and she took it on herself to take it off( she knows my password)! Yes, I know you know how fast I can paint– I most likely would paint my walls a bit slower than cardboard!

  • RYC:  I actually e-mailed Vicks to complain about the new Nyquil formulation.  They answered and said that you can still get the Nyquil with pseudoephedrine in it, but you have to buy it at the pharmacy counter, as you do with all products containing that decongestant now.

At least we know we can still buy it!

    Hope you feel better soon.

  • Hmm, very strange. I posted a comment, and now I don’t see it. Oh well, it will probably show up after I post this one.

RYC:  I e-mailed Vicks to complain about the new Nyquil formulation, and they said you can still buy the original with the decongestant at the pharmacy counter. At least we can still get it!

Also, I have tried the new decongestant, phenylephrine, and it actually worked quite well for me. You can buy that without the hassle you have buying pseudoephedrine. You could always just take some of the new decongestant with your Nyquil, I suppose.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • I knew it! It did show up twice. Grrr.

  • Thank you so much for the kind message. I felt encouraged. I passed the 10,000 word mark yesterday, but it still feels like there is a looong way to go, but I’m ‘a goin’!

  • The living looks GREAT! My mom wants to know where you the couch.

    SG93

  • RYC:  I am so sorry that you went to two places for nothing. Well, time to e-mail Vicks again and give them a hard time.

  • This is the e-mail they had sent to me:

We appreciate your comments and I’m sharing them with the rest of our team.  Meanwhile, it may help to know that while NyQuil Cold & Flu Liquid is pseudoephedrine free, Vicks NyQuil D (the old version that has pseuedoephedrine) is available, you just have to ask for it since it’s located behind pharmacy counters in the stores.

    Thanks again for writing.

  • I remember when I couldn’t wait to get my license and start driving, now I’ll do most anything to avoid it unless it’s highway driving for a road-trip. I couldn’t imagine putting that many miles on every week!  What have I been up to?    Just minding my own business, definitely trying not to make any waves, and of course trying to endear myself to the city fathers. (cough, cough) Did I mention I have some prime vacation property to sell?

  • RYC:  Oh, my…Could you imagine having twins on two different days?  It is possible.  LOL!  So your birthday is Nov. 23rd…at what time?  You just missed being the Turkey this year.  Anytime my birthday falls on Thanksgiving, like this year, I’m told by my older siblings that I am the Turkey for the year.  LOL!  Are you doing anything special for your birthday?  So, I have to know…First do you have siblings?  And if so, are you oldest, middle, youngest…etc.  I happen to be the youngest.  As far as what I have been up to.

Work (Personal Caregiver four days a week…3rd shift…No weekends!)

    Counseling/Coaching a couple in a marriage crisis.

Fortunately, both my kids have cars…so the days of driving them all over for activities are gone.

I am technically not homeschooling this year, since my son, who is a Senior is taking all college classes.  So, I am using this year to adjust to not being needed.  You’ll hit that eventually.  It’s weird, because I am so used to being involved in the homeschool co-op and just being plain busy.

Once he graduates, I plan on having more of a social life.  LOL!

Anyway…I hope you feel better.  It is no fun being sick, especially when you have alot to do.  Take Care!

  • The wall and the writing look fun, the being sick does NOT.  I’ve been battling a very nasty cold, too, so you have my sympathy.

  • Paintball was fun.  The weather was beautiful and the ‘war zones’ are in the woods.  So it was an outside day away from the desk.  I don’t know that I need to go again anytime soon.  Like I say, I was lucky.  I didn’t get hurt but some of the kids had welts that turned into very nice bruises overnight.

And yes, there are IEPs for alot of things.  I am kind of in the gray area.  I don’t have the extremely odd children, but I don’t have the normal ones either.  My administrator is in charge of all special services and she sees it all.  Last year a 2nd grader broke her nose.  I don’t ever want her job!

  • Oooh nice wall, and so seasonal.  Was that the new sofa?  How are you ever going to leave?  Oh yeah, no driving, that’s a powerful attraction after logging so many miles.  I think your house may have about the same floorplan as our house before this one.  Does the sofa look out on a picture window, and is the room behind it the dining room with the kitchen just right of it?

  • I have been trying to clean my house for Thanksgiving, doing laundry, avoiding studying which I really must do -I made promises to myself that I wouldn’t leave my reading to the last minute this time, and the last minute is approaching.  Right now I have some family time coming.  We are going to watch “Meet the Robinsons”.
