  • Happy __________

Happy All Saints Day!  Happy first day of  November! Happy first day of NaNoWriMo!

Yes, today is the day where crazed fools across the world begin the daunting task of writing a 50,000 word novel in thirty days.  AimeeAnne had bribed me into doing this with her, and I’m grateful.  I pulled out my copy of No Plot, No Problem, the official pump-you-up book of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).  I also printed out my Vertias book and reread it to discover it wasn’t so very bad.

NaNoWriMo recommends not appending any earlier work but starting from scratch on a whole,  new project. I don’t feel like abandoning Christoper and Anna just yet to work on some other book, especially as I’ve had less than 12 hours to think up any new characters or plot or whatever. So, I shall break a cardinal rule and let them send their legions of guilt monkeys after me.

Feel free during this month to send me encouraging emails and Xanga messages. I’ll more than likely be on the computer a lot, looking for any excuse to stop typing my novel.

If you had to write a novel (in a month or longer), what would you write about? What genre? What plot? What characters?

  • haha that’s too funny!    Good luck with your novel!!  :)

  • If I were given a month to write a novel (not that I could do it; it just took me one year to write a half of one), I’d probably write about something with which I was very familiar. Piracy, for instance. But I prefer to stay away from genres. All the best fiction is literary anyway, and I think trying to write for a particular genre inhibits creativity somewhat. Plot and characters, of course, would be entirely subject to the immediate requirements, so I’m not sure I could answer that question.

  • If I had to write a novel in a month…. oh wait, I am.

Umm… and I need to think about major plot things today while I’m working, so that everything I write tonight is not ridiculous……

And I say continue with your story.  It’s about you getting your book done, most importantly.

  • You ambitious thing! What is it that you are dusting off? (ie., plot, characters, etc.)

I have no idea what I’d do! That’s the kind of thing I assign, not endeavor! I leave that to the more creative types and then I edit away, which is really my favorite part of the deal. Improvement!

  • If I had to write a novel in a month, I simply could not do it.  There seem to be no stories in me at all.  You’d think a person with six children, one grandchild and a dog would have something, but no, not me.

Do keep us posted on your progress.  I’m impressed with people who can write fiction.

  • I still have not worked up the nerve to do NaNoWriMo.  Maybe next year…(that’s what I’ve said for the past two years)

Nathan looks scary.  Of course, with all that camo, I had to look twice.

  • I’ve finally subscribed to your blog . . . I hear so much about you and your world any way, so I thought I’d read it for myself!

I’m excited to see what all you NaNoWriMo people come up with this month!  It seems truly crazy, but also exciting, so it should be good!  I hope you each post just a small tidbit of your writing occasionally, along with your word count, so we nonwriters can enjoy the process along with you (without all the work, of course).

  • Where are Wit and Gockle?

Make some CC cookies, they’re always a great motivator for me!

  • I figured out long ago that my area of expertise literature wise is reading, not writing! lol

  • I think if I had to write a novel, it would have to be about a teacher whose classroom is full of odd charactors!  The end of our grading period is coming up and I have to help determine who stays with me in alternative school and who should return to regular high school.  A couple of kids have to go, but I have developed soft spots for them and hate to let them go.  A couple of kids I’d like to throw under the bus (what did I just say?) must remain with me for another grading period before they have enough credits to go.

  • Thirty days, eeh?  That is probably how long it would take me to come up with an idea to start with!  Best wishes!!

  • plot? who needs it?

  • A jilted woman always makes for a good plot…hehehe…sorry I was just tossing that out there.  I can only come up with a few blog posts a month, I can’t imagine a novel.  Unless, of course, it could be HIGHLY ridiculous.

  • You go girl!  If I was doing it in a month, I’d write a fantasy.  Otherwise I might write a book about a college age girl I’ve been thinking about.

  • Hey! You just called me a crazed fool! How insulting. Er, I guess that must not be a bad thing since you technically called yourself one as well.

Hehe, my mom just came in and I told her about you, and she said “she’s from Pennsylvania too? Tell her your mom is from King o Prussia.” (Hope I spelled that right. She left the room so I can’t ask her.)

Anyway, back to the NaNoWriMo thing. I would be happy to poke my head in and pressur–encourage you every so often. I wish you the best, fellow crazed fool.

  • OH NO! I don’t have a chance! I haven’t touched my cross-stitch since we got home, and I haven’t got an excuse to do it all the time. You’re going to WINnnnn….!
