A Cookie Kind of Day
Today, we woke to gray, overcast skies. It was a perfect day to sleep in, so I did. I had a strange and never-before-experienced leg cramp in the middle of the night, so I felt justified in milking that episode for an extra hour of sleep. The school day progressed well, primarily because my attitude toward things was better. (Praise God, and thank you, dear friends!) That attitude was well-needed as someone (yes, just one person) flunked two math lessons, a history test, a vocabulary lesson, and a grammar page. Of course, this was not accomplished without a great deal of “back-chat” (new word from a poem we read today).
But, not to be daunted, I forged ahead and baked some toffee chip cookies. Mmmm! I’m planning leftovers for supper since we’ve eaten home-cooked meals the past THREE nights in a row! This may make most folks say, “Yeah, so?” But, for us during football season, three in a row (about to be four) is quite an accomplishment.
I’ve been sneezing my head off all day. Oh, the joys of allergies…perhaps it will turn into a full-blown misery. If it does, I hope it waits until…um…next Wednesday. I suppose I could fit a sick day in this Friday as well. Saturday would not work as the usual hoards of teens and friends descend on our house for Make a Movie Night. This misnamed event takes place from 1:00 to 8:00. We turn the teens loose on our house and yard and they come up with a movie–plot, costumes, special effects, etc.–and film it. The finished products are usually about five minutes, but they take hours and hours to put together. My main rules are simple–No climbing on the roof. No burning or exploding something without first checking with me. (Of course, nudity is also frowned upon.) It’s a lot of fun.
How are you spending your weekend?

For some reason the “Of course, nudity is also frowned upon” phrase struck me as HIGHLY amusing. I guess I figured that went without saying.
That sounds like fun! Good Luck!
A failing grade? I happen to own a student who also received a failing grade recently. Time spent without a cell phone fixed that right up! And since I work in the same school district that she attends, her teacher promised to keep me informed of her academic progress through the school network. Poor kid! She cannot get away with anything. hahahaha
Only frowned upon? How about posting one of these movie creations!?
Ouch! that’s a lot of “not meeting expectations” for one kid.
Try a calcium/magnesium supplement for the cramps. It worked for me when I was p.g.
Sorry about the allergies…you know, it’s funny, but some of the construction noises in our backyard yesterday reminded me of your sneeze.
I have learned the hard way that you have to say “no nudity.”
Hope you feel better soon! After reading about your weekend I’m too exhausted to even contemplate my own. Who said weekends were for relaxing?
I share your love for Thursdays . . . but I must say that tramping around campus in this rain is slightly less than ideal. And, I agree with AimeeAnne about the “of course, nudity is frowned upon statement.” It just made me laugh – but oh it is (unfortunately) so true in this world of academia . . . thank God for friends who hold higher standards!
I share your allergies. What we need is a good frost! I’ve been croaking all day.
I did a similar movie thing with teens once, only I had 4 or 5 teams making news reports….most amusing.
LOL I have to chuckle about frowning upon the nudity.. At least they are doing the brain/creativity works.
I think my weekend would be spending on the road trip.. To and fro is total of 6 hours drive.. I’ll be doing that on Friday and Sunday.
Our weekend is full of drama as well. We are almost ready for curtain!!
I’ve been plagued by terrible leg cramps at night. Oh man, I wake up screaming and crying. My leg will hurt for a couple of days after that.. my hubby will rub it and straighten my foot because he says that will help. I have yet to stop crying to figure out if he’s right.. =)
Yeah, I wanna see some of these cinematic masterpieces.
That was a great quote you left on my xanga. Movie night sounds so very much fun!
My son would LOVE To join in on something like your movie day!
He has lots of fun must making “still action” films.
The toffee cookies sound yum.
The interesting thing is I have been waking up with severe leg cramps too. It’s from a lack of potassium in your diet. Eat a banana a day for the next two weeks, and I bet they’ll stop!
No burning, exploding, climbing or nudity? Aww Ma!
Sorry about the allergies and the tough school for one. How do you handle that? (the student, not the allergies)
Leg cramp, OUCH!! I had nightime leg cramps through out my ENTIRE pregnancy, almost EVERY night; you poor thing! Someone told me if you eat a banana before bed you won’t get them anymore.
This weekend we’re going to lunch at one of El Mano’s coworkers house, then a Sunday School game party that evening. Sunday is of course church (nursery week, ick) and then it’s just Brie and I….3 weeks until Actuary Exam number 4, EM is in crunch mode!
Nudity is frowned upon? By whom? Certainly not by me!
oh, i’m going to some wild blowout at the seller home with a few dozen(dozen) friends…
Sounds like fun. We’re having a houseful of company. Dara’s Drew is here & my parents are coming. They’re all staying till Tues.
Today I made some pear preserves. MMmmmmm… I don’t like pears (mostly their texture), but I love pear preserves with cinnamon. Although I must admit that chocolate chip cookies sound so much better……
Congrats on all the home-cooked meals! I love any excuse for a day to be a cookie day
Your movie “night” sounds like a ton of fun. If appropriate for you to post, I would love to see what the kids come up with. The weekend has already started, but last night was a friend’s 2nd annual Fall Fest – a huge dinner full of delicious fall foods, lots of chatting around the fire pits, roasting s’mores, playing cornhole, and decorating pumpkins. Then this afternoon we’re going with two friends to a bonsai exhibit at the conservatory.
I know just what you mean Mary about having home cooked meals. When we have soccer season, it is always a struggle to fit everything in. And we unfortunately eat out more than we should during that time. So yeah for you!
And I just love to read your blogs. They always put a smile on my face
