  • Another Day the Same

My life seems to be a monotonous blur of sameness. Things did perk up a bit with the head cold I got Sunday, and I baked two layers of yellow cake today (un-iced) and have reserved one layer totally for me. I had planned to eat the entire thing today, but I think I shall gnaw on it for at least 24 hours instead of five.  The kids have looked at me quizzically, but they understand comfort cake.

Hmm…let’s see. What can I tell you that will be of the least bit of interest?  I’ve been enjoying our study of the Egyptians, Assyrians, and Babylonians.  (Yeah, that’s an interest-zinger alright.)  Our new piano teacher gave LibbyK and Gockle a total of 16 books for the two of them. This seems a tad zealous to me.  The kids shot me looks of helpless horror when they left lessons.

It’s Blessed Rainy Day in Bhutan today. This holiday marks the end of the monsoon season.  Citizens are encouraged to bathe outside to be cleansed of their bad deeds and bad karma.  If you were truly celebrating this day, you and yours would more than likely eat a bowl of thup for breakfast.  Drat. I had a bagel.  How many of you are saying, “What’s thup?”  And I reply, “Whath are you, Bugths Bunny or thumthing?”

  • I like the Egyptians and the Babylonians, but those Assyrians really tick me off.    So which do you prefer, Nebucadnezzer, Hammurabi, Rameses II, or Tutenkhamen?

  • My Emma and I are finishing the Babylonians and starting the Assyrians.  I hope this means that I’m on track? :)   I hope you throughly enjoyed the yellow cake and really next time take two layers!

  • The cake sounds good! It’s always hard to split a piece of something so good in half and save the rest for later, but with that much cake I think it should last a while.

Yeah, I would agree that 16 books may be a bit overwhelming!!!!

  • Yeah, he was pretty happy. He was very excited for the game that day! I think this may have may have made it all worth while for him as he was struggling to stay in it for a while.

  • So I never answered your question you left for me ages ago… I’ve been a bit extra introverted lately and out of communication. Anyway, I am content at home, but we are not to a point were I can do that long-term yet nor are we ready for kids. I am not a “Type A” who needs a long list of things to keep busy or a bunch of people around. Actually, there is a strong possibility that I may start a 2-3 month web content writing position soon. I will (hopefully) blog about that soon.

I always enjoyed my World History classes so I can understand enjoying the E’s, A’s, and B’s!

  • tsk tsk, Mary. Daffy Duck ith the one with the lithp, not Bugs.

Did I ever tell you that I share a birthday with Bugs Bunny? He premiered in his first cartoon on July 27th, 1940!

  • Did someone say Egyptian??  As when I was a little girl I lived in Cairo, Egypt for 3 and half years..  Nah you ain’t boring.. You still are interesting person.. :)

Those poor kids with those many books.. Whoa.. That’s alot..

  • I like your sense of humor. I’ve been meaning to ask….does the name Gockle have any significance?

  • When your life “perks up” because of a head cold, one really has to wonder about you.

  • Way out of control you wild woman!

And yes I do think 15 books is too much.  We have 4 or 5 between the 3 kids (2 theory, 3 music)

RYC- I will clarify.  I have gotten some slack from people who think I am no longer homeschooly enough.  And yes, I feel guilty.  But they are going to “school” two days a week for Science experiments, music classes, art appreciation, drawing , logic, spanish and some group activities related to core subjects.  On those two days I am working in the Christian bookstore on those two days.  I already work on Wednesdays at church teaching a class.  This is what pays for those extra piano lessons!  But on Wednesdays I take the kids with me, so I am only seperate from them 2 days a week and yes it is hard and new and different and I do wonder if it is right, but I think it might be and I am interested in your honest opinion.  Not nessasarily everyones and not in the tones I’ve gotten from some, but I really would like your views.

  • You are in a funny mood!  Perhaps you need to back off on the cold meds?  The history, that is SonLight, right?

Sixteen books seems like a bit much to me.  Did you have to buy them all?

  • I forget exactly where I spawned that. We’re currently on dealing with the art and architecture produced by those groups in my Art History class.

  • Yellow cake is my absolute fave!!

  • Yellow cake sounds good! Hope your head cold is gone soon! I love Bugs Bunny cartoons!

  • RYC: You may have noticed that ‘tidy the house’ was *not* on my list of things I do when I have nothing else to do! LOL! Yes, I still need to tidy the house.

  • this entry made me smile. :) very funny!!

  • Comfort cake, huh?  If I had a whole cake to myself, I’d be in heaven– especially if it chocolate with pb icing.   But alas, my belly would be bigger in the end (and my hips, and my thighs).  Anyway….. what is thup???  Never heard of it– perhaps we should have cake instead?

  • Lol! Tell me I can quote you on that: “I don’t know why I’m surprised when I read a classic and it’s good”.

Now, for what reason was your cake left icingless? If it is because icing is icky to you, I quite agree. I always get an inner wry grin when people talk about something being “the icing on the cake”.

  • Today (Sept. 19th) is my birthday and I haven’t even eaten a whole half cake yet!  My husband brought me one of those little bitty chocolate cakes that the Wal-mart bakery sells, if you know what I mean.  I could say I ate a whole chocolate cake and it would sound really bad but it wouldn’t be.  Don’t worry about the piano books.  My daughter took piano lessons for about 6 years and had all kinds of books.  I liked it because I wanted her to be challenged and I think a teacher that gives a lot of books will do that.  You are my only blogging friend that is stedfast!  Most of them (my kids and their friends) are quitting and using face book.  I am dissappointed so I may not be around much longer, just not sure yet.  I just want you to know I think you’re cool!

  • I haven’t even started to think of packing yet…..(wail!!)

  • The cake sounds yummy. I love it when I have something for comfort. We all need a little TLC from time to time :)

  • Sameness isn’t really a bad thing, but 16 piano books is!  Poor kids….

When will you be in England?  Rob and I are planning next years vacation and we would like to visit when y’all are in town!

  • What’s thup…LOL!  You got me that time.

RYC:  stellarer = more stellar, of course.

  • Actualy, I always liked studying about the Assyrians, Egyptians, and Babylonians! My definition of comfort food is close to yours, onkly mine involves chocolate! (and caffeine of course)

  • I am sorry you aren’t feeling well but I am glad you have cake!  My husband bought a little bundt cake for me earlier this week; orange cake with orange glaze icing.  AAHHHHH…………..it was delicious!
