Long Entry, So I’ll Be Bold for Easy Skimming
Before I get started with my thrilling activities of the past few days, I have a question for the electronically-saavy. I turned on my stereo yesterday, and the speakers buzzed like steriod-enhanced hornets. Are my speakers bad? Is my stereo shot? Is there some way to fix these buzzing speakers? I appeal to you, oh gurus with more knowledge than I.
Last night, we went to Quaker Steak and Lube for a late supper while the older boys stood in the rain with their friends at the State High game. It was so cold in the restaurant that even with a sweater and my spring jacket zipped all the way up, I was literally shaking, even when Little Miss consented to warm me by sitting on my lap.
We had an interesting encounter while there. The waitress brought our check, and we noticed that she had charged us for Little Miss’ soda, even though it should have been free with her meal. TGD politely drew her attention to this fact.
TGD–I see that you charged us for a Dr. Pepper. It should have been free with the children’s meal.
Waitress–That’s because you didn’t get it in a children’s cup.
Me–But, you were the one who decided to bring us a soda in the adult cup.
Waitress–Did you want it in a children’s cup?
TGD–We ordered a children’s meal for our child. We had to request a children’s cup?(A few long minutes later, the not-very-attentive waitress returned)
Waitress–I spoke to my manager about this misunderstanding, and he said we could remove the soda from your bill.
Misunderstanding? I see other M words here–Mistake. Moron. Besides, what did the cup size matter anyhow? We all had free refills for free! And, she didn’t even bring us our free licorice and warm hand wipes. Harumph.
After our meal (which was delicious as always), TGD took the younger three home while I headed to pick up the soggy teens while listening to the game on the radio. When I was about 3/4 a mile from the stadium, I saw a huge flash of rose and blue light. Then I saw lightning. “Hmm, what could that have been?” I thought. Just then the football commentator said, “Hey, all the lights but one just blew in the stadium, and we’ve seen lightning.” With only 1:20 left in the 4th quarter and the other team with the ball and a first down, they called the game. Bummer. We lost.
This morning, I met Julia S. for a delightful breakfast at The Waffle Shop. I had the most delicious waffle of my life, a Belgian waffle with fresh blueberries baked into it and topped with fresh blueberries and loads of whipped cream. It was funny how tickled the waitress was with the amount of whipped cream she gave us. We oohed and squealed and ate every bite!
After my luxurious meal and wonderful conversation, I met TGD at Wolf Furniture. It was time to furniture shop. We stopped at the store for a half an hour last night and by 4:00 this afternoon, we had finally decided on a couch, two chairs, and a coffee table. We chose a brown microsuede for the fabric which looks an awful lot like a leather bomber jacket. The couch looks like a couch, the chairs are rocker/recliners, and the coffee table is a cool oval thing with two circle tables that slide underneath it.
In case you are wondering, furniture is expensive.
Tonight, TGD made tortillas for supper, a specialty of his (and of the Ulmers)–melt butter in a frying pan. Add a tortilla spread with refried beans and cheese. Grill until crispy and delicious. Mmmm. And, he cleaned the kitchen while I napped after my “stressful” day.
What made you want to nap this weekend?

Wow! I’m the first person to comment on this entry! Quick, somebody take my picture!
You mentioned so much food in this entry that now I’m hungry! As to reasons for napping, I mowed the front lawn, the back lawn, my dad’s warehouse’s lawn, and the 1/2 acre lot of a woman from our church in the past two days. Time to relax!

Sounds like a fabulous day!
Today we went to the Old Fashioned Days Parade in Downtown Xenia – we always sit right in front of the McDonald’s with the Butgereit’s/Hodson’s/Mikesell’s bunch. Went to dinner at Applebee’s then to the park for the festivities….. now the girls are in bed and I’m finally ready to relax!
What made me want to nap today? Well, the fact that I had my Spanish class at an incredibly early hour (lol…it was 10:30…but that’s early for a poor high school student on a Saturday, isn’t it???) made me want to sleep in. Dad finally got me out of bed so I’d be up in time for the class.
And I didn’t want to nap today. I discovered the book The Witch of Blackbird Pond, and I couldn’t put it down. It was seriously spellbinding!
Luckily, it was only about 220 pages, so I read it in an afternoon.
My, my, my…meals out and furniture purchases. Sounds like a nice break from the weekly routines!
Getting up at 4:30 in the morning and working until 6:00 in the afternoon.
Sounds like quite a day!!! I liked your descriptions of both waitresses. In my new serving job, I will try my utmost not to be like the first one, although I do have my blonde moments…hahaha.
My narcotics made me nap numerous times during the day haha.
You might ask Nate (my Nate, or Amy’s Nate–just not yours–or yours isn’t the one I’m intending) about your speakers…electrical engineer and all that. While he was home a short time ago, he replaced two things that were not replaceable with the exact right parts. But he knew how to finagle them to make them work which we wouldn’t have known how to do ourselves.
O.k., after reading about “Quaker Steak & Lube”, I’m, AGAIN, reminded of Retrowoman’s comment…….. got comics?
Now…. I admit, this is the not-so-Christ-like side of me, but, I would have GOTTEN those handwipes and licorice, or that girl wouldn’t have gotten her tip! …. o.k., so she wouldn’t have gotten AS MUCH tip (it would take an awful lot for me not to leave any tip at all, I guess. I used to wait tables, myself, so there’s some “loyalty” issues there.).
Oooooo! Naps!! Now you’re talking my language! It was such a beautiful, cool, sunny weekend, I did get in my fair share of naps……. however, not on the porch swing, which would have made them perfect! It was a busy week, I’m a night owl, and I just needed the extra rest, I guess.
Please pray for my dad….. I found out Sat. that he’s not progressing as quickly as they’d like, and I’m suspecting some family problems going on there, too. (I’ll probably do a protected post on it.) Thanks!
Lightning! That’s exciting!
I find furniture shopping is very annoying because all the styles are not what I want. I bet you got a lovely set, though.
Which leads to the question, why are you redecorating before you leave? Is it so sitters can spread pizza on nice new stuff?
I took a very rare nap this weekend. I was out for about two hours. Mr. M. and I were both incredibly tired, and didn’t know why. We had seen Quartus, however, and found out from Peach Blossom that he was very tired and in bed today.
Your Quarker Steak story made me laugh, some people are so….
Quaker Steak . . . ah, the memories.
Hope you’re doing well!!!
Sounds like your waitress is a little short in the brains department.
I think your speakers are probably shot.
Sounds like a wonderfully full day. I’m going to have dinner with a friend of mine from church. I’m sooooooo looking forward to it!! =)
Have a great day.
I actually fell asleep on the floor in the basement on Sunday because I was so tired…we played 4 hours of intense capture the flag (woot!!!) with our youth group on Saturday and then Sunday after church I played Ultimate Frisbee, chicken on the monkey bars, and jumped on the trampoline. I am majorly sore………
Great to hear what you guys are up to.
We miss you LOTS
RYC: The people in my pictures are people who I know through church. The grandparents go there, and all of their married kids happened to be home, so we scheduled a last-minute photoshoot. Slightly stressful, but still fun.
I think I know your waitress, she’s the one who brings my salad 30 seconds before she brings my cold steak. You should be able to find some awesome Amish made furniture in your area, it’s expensive too, but it’ll last till your grandchildren are old!
Hi! Just got in about 40 minutes ago from dinner at a great mexican place called Azteca III. We practiced our Spanish on the Mexican waiter and he practiced his English on us! We feel like idiots, but, I think it’s all good for us. The conversation on our part consisted of a bunch of “Gracias!”‘s & “De Nada!”‘s, but, we found out he likes the U.S. & is going back home to visit his family in a couple of months. He also is 20 years old and married (he looked like he was about 17!).
B. & I went to a stock company seminar today (Ameritrade) to learn about some of their online programs & such. He told me that I didn’t have to stay for the whole-day seminar & could go shopping at some point. After about 15 minutes, I turned to him and said, “Can I go shopping, now??”….. ha!! ha!!! No, I didn’t say that, I just thought about it….. a lot!!! I did skip out during one of the afternoon sessions & went to the mall nearby. Got new tennies, some new skivies, & a new bathing suit bottom (I already have a top, but, wanted to be able to change the bottoms from shorts to a skirt!). When we got home, we went to the library to drop off books & videos, drove around for what seemed like all night, & finally made it to the restaurant!
While we were driving home, for some reason, we started talking about and trying to sing “Cat’s in the Cradle” & “Time in a Bottle” to the girls. We looked up the words online when we got home & let the girls listen to them. It was really sweet…… sappy, maybe, but, sweet, nonetheless! They liked it & gave us bunches of hugs.
Now, I’m going to do the school planning for this week that I should have done on Sunday! How was your day?
It sounds like you had a great weekend. It’s always nice to have a relaxing time. We had my oldest’s birthday party which went well. And the rest of the weekend was filled with cleaning for the party, church, and of course soccer.
I used to work in retail, and I thought I was kind of slow, until I met people like that.
Sounds fun, and I’m definitely hungry.
As for naps, what doesn’t make me want to nap? Sitting down in a chair generally is a nap-starter for me.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
