Home? It’s Evening and I’m at Home?
Who could have imagined that I’d actually get to spend an evening at home? I’m so used to dashing out the door after supper that I hardly know what to do with myself. A chemistry lecture with the boys? Done! Reading with Little Miss? Done! Washing the pots and pans after dinner? Do…er, I’ll get to that after this entry.
School is going better this week. I think we have our minds wrapped around the idea that school is here to stay for another 174 days. It’s been fun to go back through Egyptian history with the younger three. One thing that’s been nifty is the number of times that I’ve said, “Oh, you’ll see that at the British Museum when we go.” I’m so excited and blessed and fortunate! We still don’t have a place to live for our Cambridge sojourn, so much prayer is needed there.
Tomorrow morning an interesting thing will happen. I have a room designer coming to the house. Now, before you get the wrong idea and think this is some sort of fashion house, I’ve hired this woman for an hour or so to give me ideas about our living room (the one with the computers and piano and book cases). I would like to change it around while still keeping a lot of empty floor space. Yet, we need to have a place for at least three computers, a couch, a few chairs, the piano, five bookshelves (not counting the built-in ones), etc. Actually, I may have figured out exactly what I want in that room, but we shall see what she has to say. It will just be like something from HGTV or TLC! At least, I hope it will be.
What room in your house would you love for a room designer to tackle?

Sound like you need an office designer more than a home designer.
I’m glad you are able to have an evening where your not runing somewhere! Yeah, I think I may be getting nore into the whole school thing. It’s still not much fun though. I woke up at 9 this morning, looked at the clock and realised that I was 1/2 hour late for Biology already!
You get to go BACK to England! How wonderful! Glad you are enjoying the new school year.
I’d like help with…our den. It’s so “functional.” No pizazz.
Actually… my house is EXACTLY how I want it – completely organized and nothing out of place! Crazy but true…
Umm…I wouldn’t really know. My room isn’t very pretty looking, but it’s practical. It would be cool to have some kind of theme, though. (at least a color…the walls and carpet are white)
Oh, and it bugs me when the toilet paper is under the roll, too…
When’s the big departure date? So exciting!! My daughter practically lived in that museum when she was studying there.
I’m afraid my whole house needs to be revamped. It’s way too cluttered and inefficient, but I’m always short on time and energy….and ideas. I guess we’ve achieved that lived-in look! Quite effortlessly, too.
Which room to tackle??? Oh, that’s easy!! That would be my “Every Stinkin’” room…… EVERY STINKIN’ ROOM IN MY HOUSE!!
Hey!! I made c.c. cookies tonight, too!! Yum! Yum!! They were great! A great way to start off this cool weather snap we’re having today! I used the mini-chips tonight & I only used about 3/4 of what they called for of those, but, I think I’ll cut back to 1/2 a bag again….. I like to really taste the cookie part with just a hint of chocolate here and there.
Your Egyptian History sounds really interesting! I’d like to know what you’re using to teach that.
I hope you’re feeling back to “normal” (what IS that, anyway???) soon. I know how that feels. Get plenty of rest, take your vitamins, and drink lots of water…… oh, and take lots of breaks! This is advice from someone who rarely gets enough rest, but, DOES take her vitamins, drinks some water, and is learning to take more breaks. I just don’t want to be accused of being a hypocrite! phffffft! ha!
Have a lovely, peaceful evening!
I love HGTV!
Exciting that you are having a designer come! As to rooms in my house, I would have to say Mom and Dad’s room.
We’ve been putting it off for a while, and while the rest of the place is more or less decorated, that remains rather…well, rather.
APUSH is going pretty well. Any advice you or Nathan have to pass on would be appreciated!
Luckily, Eng Lang last year taught me not to hyperventilate at the mere mention of a multiple choice or TE. Which is good. I’m currently in the “How on earth am I ever going to know ALL THIS for the test?!” stage and dreading April and May in September. Heh.
Actually, somehow I get this feeling that to be a good student I should be cramming already!
Other than that, I’m just trying to get in the groove and figure out everything. This is our first “real” week, last week being a reading and orientation week. So we’ll see how it goes!
(I really dislike the Wednesday thing, too – makes me have to plan everything I’m doing on Thursday, and the update email doesn’t come until Monday).
Living room or kitchen. I didn’t know you were needing prayer for a place to stay. I will pray.
Nice that you gonna have someone come and giving you ideas what to do with your living room..
Do I have to pick just one?? I would say my whole house! lol But if I have to stick with just one.. I would think my livingroom/kitchen as it is one big open space.
The garage.
Can’t wait to hear what she says.
Glad school is on track. Are you in Story of the World?
I need help with my dining/schoolroom. We have 2 computers (& desks), a bookshelf that isn’t big enough for all our school books (& it is quite big!), a couple small filing cabinets that I use the tops for holding folders, etc., a hutch & of course, the dining room table. I don’t have enough organizational space & yet don’t want to add more because it looks cluttered already with all this furniture. Wanna send that lady up my way?
My living room looks like an office. Someday I’ll have to take a picture and put it up on my blog. I think when I’m down one more kids homeschooling, I may move back into one of the smaller rooms and get all the bookshelves back in here. One thing I wish I could have re-made–and who knows, maybe it will someday–is to have my upstairs hallway widened to accomodate three-foot high shelves its entire length. That part is like a balcony over the living room and so the space is there–just the support is not: an important thing to consider for bookshelves.
ooh, good question. The girls room needs rearranging, but not redecorating (we have bunk beds, a twin bed, a few dressers in it now and somehow have to fit a crib in there too…hmm)
I need decorating help with our front room/playroom/whatisthisroomexactly room. The carpet and curtains are dk burgandy and it matches the floral wallpaper, but that paper needs replacing and I don’t know what to do with the walls. Currently there is an oversized cardboard box fort in the middle of the room – which doesn’t really match the antiquey black and white photos theme or the winnie-the-pooh baby swing or the burnt orange ’70 rocking chair.
Ah… I could have on clean under my bed and rearrange my desk.
Good luck with the designer! I would hand over my entire house and tell her to go for it!
We have been in school for 4 weeks now and I am ready for summer break!
Can a Room Designer build a room? We need an office! I am so tired of book piles all over the living and dining room. I would like it with floor to ceiling built-in bookshelves, and..I need a librarian to re-shelve the books that my dear husband uses, and fails to put back. Maybe some day…
Right now I am delighted because we will be getting our roof redone, the trees (that hang over the roof and threaten the phone lines) trimmed, and the chimney (which has lost some bricks) fixed. And all this may be happening this weekend! I’d better get out there with a camera and take some before photos.
Hmmm…I think that any room at our place could use some attention!
My kitchen obviously! Problem is I don’t know of any room designers who can make more square footage suddenly appear.
RYQ; I use a regular recipe; flour, baking soda, salt, butter, eggs, and brown sugar.
My dining room needs help! Keep us posted on the results.
