  • Fri-DAAAAAY!

Usually, one day of the week isn’t that much different than another for me in terms of excitement.  I tend to like Thursdays the best for some reason, but I must confess. I am fantastically pleased that it is Friday.  Don’t get me wrong. Our first week of school went well enough. We did our Sonlight 6 and 200. Wit and Hunter went to State High for their bits of the day.  Little Miss read to me and wrote in her journal. But, I was not used to the fact that homeschooling sucks up every available minute of my day which is not already consumed by football and cheerleading.  Phew!  I am very much looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow.

Lest any of you feel deprived, I’ll let you know what we are doing in school this year. We’re doing the obvious math and things, although spelling falls through the craks–er, cracks.  Right now, Egyptian history dominates the scene with Hunter and Wit studying church history.  We have also started Latin this year using Latina Christiana’s DVDs. They are handy, and the curriculum itself doesn’t seem so stressful.  Amo, amas, amat, amamus, amatis, amant…(I don’t know how to add the accent which is needed in the “we” and “formal you” conjugations.) Pretty soon I’ll be reading Ptolemy in the orignal! (But only if, “I love, you love, we love” feature heavily in his writing.)

Tonight is the first State High home game. Hunter, Wit, and LibbyK are going. I’ll be decorating the church with MaineLady for the after-game Youth Group party. It’s a “Wooo!” even thought it’s yet another thing to do.

One thing I have been doing to fill in the splinters of free time I have is answering Princess Bride Trivia questions on Facebook. (Mary Sellers, in case you want to friend me.)  I am fine with the quote ones. “After Buttercup tells the Man in Black that Prince Humperdink can track a falcon on a cloudy day, what is her next line?”  No problem.  But, when they say things like, “How many colored rings are on the grandfather’s coffee mug?” or “What TV show did the brother of the actor who played the boy star in?” do me in. (They are multiple choice, thankfully!)

Are you a Princess Bride fan?  What’s your favorite quote or scene?  Ask me a trivia question!

  • It’s only one of the best blends of action and comedy ever made. Fezzik is the man (actually closer to two men, but whatever).

  • Well, I could probably mention *many* scenes that are my favorites, but two quickly come to mind.  The first would be Billy Crystal’s scene (playing Miracle Max).  I think it is absolutely classic.  I could probably watch that scene over and over again and laugh until I cry every time.  One of my other favorites features the albino in the dungeon with that raspy voice who then clears his throat… that is such clever directing/producing in my opinion.  (And how about that face he makes later in the conversation with Wesley, you know, where he shakes his head “yes” and puts on that cheesy grin?  I just love that!)

Two quick trivia questions:  1)  What actress played Billy Crystal’s (Miracle Max’s) wife in the movie?   and 2)  What actor played the albino mentioned above?

  • HATE, HATE, HATE Princess Bride, but hope that you are enjoying the trivia!  And hope even more that you have a great time sleeping in tomorrow!

  • Ohh, too many to pick..  I gotta to say about that guy who kept wanting to revenge for his father’s death..

Ooh, I’ll be adding you in facebook.. If you don’t mind. :)

  • It’s amazing your kids can take classes at the public school. I wish it were the case in our neck of the woods.

Most definitely: “I’m not a witch! I’m your wife!”

    Love it every time.

  • LOVE< LOVE < LOVE that movie!  I hate to be obvious, but we do use “Have fun storming the castle!” an awful lot around here.  We actually quote it a lot, but that would be the most quoted.  That is one the whole family loves, my parents, husband, siblings, kids and cousins!

  • The hope of Fridays is one thing that propels me through the week. I love them desperately: one class, possibility of swing dancing, and then Christian fellowship group in the evening. yay!!

Glad to hear your first week went well . . . hope your weekend is fabulous!

  • “Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.”

  • Love Princess Bride. If any child comes to spend the night and hasn’t seen it that is what we watch. FUN!! I often tell my husband as he goes to work to “Have fun storming the castle.” Lines from the movie pop up in our general conversation all the time. Too many favorite lines to pick.

FYI, there is a story somewhere on the internet where they have taken Lord of the Rings and put it’s characters and plot into the story of the Princess Bride. A hilarious read!!

  • We love the Princess Bride.  So much so that we got tired of renting it & finally bought it about 2 years ago.  lol  But your trivia questions make me want to watch it again.  How many rings are on the coffee cup??? Must find out….

  • The TV show with the boy’s brother was “Boy Meets World”… haha, I used to watch that so much when I was a kid.  About as much as I watched Princess Bride.

  • Goodnight. Sleep well. I’ll most likely kill you in the morning.

or, when my sister and I are bantering on a regular basis–

    Me: “think it’ll woik?”

    Katie: “it’d take a miracle”

  • Hello.

My name is Inigo Montoya.  You killed my father; prepare to die.

  • I have Fezzik’s French accent down so I have found great enjoyment in quoting him saying (the first time I heard this line, I did not understand it) “Ay, you weegol yoh ahm.  Doesn’t dat mehk you appee?”

Hey, we are doing Latina Christiana this year, too!  Victoria has studied some on her own and wows us with sentences like “Silvam mulus spectat.”  Are you working on the table blessing?  I think the Pater Noster will kill us.

Glad you made it through your first week.  Our week went pretty well but I don’t know if Rilo will manage the workload.  Everything takes longer than I thought it would.  Also, I think I worked harder this week than I have in a long time.  I believe this job is full time.  :*)

  • Aw, I forgive you for not reading my China entry. You have the very valid excuse of a family needing to be taught.

I cannot find the connection between stickmen, sadistic violence, and humor. It is a mystery.

  • That Vizzini, he can FUSS….
    lurv P.B. such amusement…

  • RYC: Yes, what passes for “service” around here is really something!  On the bright side, I was given a whopping $3 credit (apparently a day’s worth of charges) to compensate me for the inconvenience.  Woo-hoo.

  • Love the Princess Bride!  “Maaawij”! :)   That’s the closest I could get to spelling it phonetically.

  • you have a great sight and such neat entries! [hope you don't mind this random comment!] i noticed you were doing latina christiana, i took it 5-6 grade, it’s a very nice program! the pronunciation on that particular chant is in the index? [can't remeber?] the princess bride is splendid…

  • Gaullia in tres partes divisa est.

  • I’m thinking of trying Sonlight this year.  What would you recommend, (besides a denim jumper)?  I’m not sure I want to buy a whole curriculum.  I need to read up. I was thinking of history… we need to do lots of reading and I want something that is engaging.  I remember history being so dry.
