  • A Happy Mess

I’d take a picture of my living room, but truly, pixels will not do it justice.  My mom (bless her) has come over twice now to help me with cleaning and organizing.  Today, in addition to cleaning the bathroom really well, she helped me to organize the school cupboard and put all the new school books on the shelf for next year. Those who do Sonlight can appreciate what two levels worth of books means. For those that don’t know what Sonlight is (a homeschool curriculum), imagine two and a half bookshelves full of brand-new books. All the labeling, sorting, and finding of the rest of the year’s curriculum also occurred. Which brings me to a prayer request…I cannot find my two Apologia General Science books. If you happen to have their location revealed to you in a vision, dream, or by seeing them on your shelf, please let me know. Otherwise, can you pray that my lost books come home wagging their tails behind them?

I have finished one whole scrapbook–all the first week or so of our trip. Now, all my Cambridge pictures and London pictures remain. I have no idea how many pages I’ve done so far. It is getting close to 100, I’m sure. The journaling will take me a good bit of time, too, but at least the paper, scissors, rock…er tape…mess will be put away.

Hunter called from camp (where he has been working for 2.5 weeks) to ask if he could go to see tractor square dancing. Now, how cool is that?  Wish I could have been there.

I hope this entry posts as my internet has been capricious these past two days. It will be perfectly fine for about two minutes and then die.  That’s why I’ve not been reading and commenting on your posts. I’ll get all set to type a reply or read, and then “Page Not Found.” Grrr.  I feel so left out of your lives.

Tonight, instead of trying to catch up (on Xanga or sleep), I’m going to watch Wuthering Heights since I’ve been reading it. It’s not the Timothy Dalton one (he IS Heathcliff), but a 1992 version. I hope I shall be satisfied.

Oh, to the happy bit of my title. Wit made the first round of soccer cuts for the JV team! WOOOOO! Final cuts are on Friday.  Pray for him; he’s exhausted and hasn’t played soccer on a team for seven years.

What’s making you happy or messy these days?

  • I’ve had the same problem with Xanga today…I don’t think it’s your Internet, but Xanga. How nice…a mom who helps you with school. What a blessing!

  • How wonderful. We’ve never had parents who have helped with anything. I always hope people can appreciate what they have when they do. Scanning almost 1000 slides made things messy. I went through my paper piles from the last year in the last couple of days and got them organized or throw out. I just have to go through about 20 boxes (of mostly stuff that’s going to Salvation Army, I think) of my Dad’s stuff…but I think I’ll wait until Nate’s here next week to tote them around for me. The 20 boxes are now scattered (with trails for walking) in the room that Nate and Amy sleep in when they’re here, so I think he’ll be willing to help. #4 son leaves for college next Thursday and so #2 daughter/#6 child will be moving into his room. I don’t expect to have complete order here for a couple of more weeks. So I think I’ll work on some genealogy! That’s my escape…or treat…or reward….

  • Happy–my family!  Messy–my family!  Good luck with the book thing, I hope you find it.

  • Happy: My brother’s coming home in 1 week!!!! :) :) :)

Messy: Compiling 70+ pages of miscelaneous materials into a coherent “Kingspin Theater Procedure Handbook” and gathering everything up for my 2nd year of college (leaving in 9 days!)

You’ve got errant schoolbooks, too? My mom’s been going crazy with those… My personal theory is that they get bored sitting on the shelves, and want a social life broader than one family, so they just up and wander off to find a new group of friends :D – but they always eventually learn that old, faithful friends are the best .

  • I can’t believe you got all those photos done! Wow! My house is messy in general right now! I’m happy I can take a nap today. I woke up at 2:00 a.m. last night and couldn’t fall back to sleep, until 5:00. I had to get up at 6:00! I’m a bit droopy. LOL!

  • I hope that problem with Xanga thing will straight out by the time u read this..   You got more stamina to put all in the scrapbooking..  For me I can’t keep it up as I did one but I gave up soon after that..    Good for you that you are able to do it..

  • Wow!  A whole scrapbook done!  That’s just great!

We’ll be leaving in a few minutes to visit my dad in the hospital, so, if you get a minute, please pray for him….& us!  His surgery is tomorrow morning & I don’t think I’ll be able to get there beforehand, so, you can imagine how that is, wondering if anything will go wrong…. blah, blah, blah….. I just want to know he’s really right with the Father, that’s all.

Thanks for your prayers & thoughts!

    Amy

  • My grandchildren always make me happy!

… and the dog makes all the messes around here.  I vacuum up enough dog hair every week to make a sofa.

Out of curiosity, I went to amazon.com and checked out what people had to say about the various film versions of WH. It was interesting. People always think of it as being a love story, but as one reviewer pointed out, it is really a tale of revenge.

I’ve never been a big Bronte fan – too brooding and depressing. Is that what makes a classic? Do they have to be depressing? Seems that way sometimes.

  • Ohhhhhhh………first day back to school and the paperwork is flying, my desk is covered and I’m not ready for tomorrow.  But here is the good news;  104 degrees outside and I have an indoor job with fully functioning air conditioner!  aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh

So I guess we are both fuzzy around the edges.

  • Sonlight, Songlight, Saxon, Calvert… Why can’t they make a homeschool curriculum with an interesting name, like “Skinhead’s Guide to Everything YOU Need to Know About Life (and Metal)”?

  • Ahhh, all those new books!  What fun!  We don’t get to order a new Core yet because we haven’t finished either of last year’s yet.

And there IS hope for the science books–My General Science and Chemistry have both returned!    However, we moved away from the people we have borrowed Algebra from before, so I had to actually buy my own.  Bummer.

YOU have been busy, lady!  Good job on the pictures!

  • Tractor square dancing??!! That sounds awesome!

  • I’ve got that missing book problem too.   I bought this book about 10 years ago, swearing I would find the time to read it.    I decided NOW is the time.    I can’t find the book though.

  • Hi! Not sure if I responded to your most recent post so I’ll just respond again–or for the first time–which ever it might be.

After this weekend I should know more, but I do believe driving up on Wednesday or Thursday would work best for me. And I must away by Saturday morning because there’s some party/gathering/meeting thing I must attend (I know, such a busy guy!).

Let me know if this is alright with you, and we will finalize our plans finally! And yes, I did just right finalize w/ a finally right after. And let me know how David is doing with soccer! And tell him, tell him to rest up ’cause I’m gonna train him like I got trained when I first started learning soccer: HARD!

    Love,
    Daniel

  • uuhhhhh… minus, ‘right,’ add, ‘write,’ what is wrong with me?!!?

  • What has made me happy today…..I received my passport this morning and travel Tuesday to Japan, so I am REALLY happy to have received it in time!  Your England memory book will be a cherished item–I love looking at my books from past trips.  It is definitely worth all the time, effort and mess put into it.   Hi to your family.  Love, Thile

  • aren’t moms nice?  :)   my mom helps me with stuff like that when she visits.  she has been a teacher for over 30 years, so she comes with loads of experience and ideas.  idk what i would do without her!!!

i hope you enjoy wuthering heights…it is one my favorite tales!!!  :)

  • I have been having that prob with xanga off and on.

Sir Laurence will always be Heathcliff to me.

I reorganized the science area of our “school room” last week.  It was a big job, but worth doing.  I went through the bins and re-organized them and moved the science table to a better spot, there by making the bins more easliy reached and re set up the equiptment.  Happy and Messy!

  • Hi! As I mentioned to you earlier, ‘after this weekend I will know more,’ I do in fact now know more: I will be quite able to arrive at your abode Wednesday night (how about six o’clock?)! Unfortunately, it will not be such a very long visit as I must be somewhere Saturday morning, but three nights is, after all, quite a decent amount of time!

Okay, see you all soon! Love,
    Me

  • What makes me messy….life, lol. Right now it’s getting ready for another school year, soccer, work, just the kids breathing, lol. Working from home is great but it creates a lot of clutter….or maybe that’s ME creating the clutter..

  • Well if we play hearts I really see no need to cheat =P And I think if I cheated at that game in which me and Nathan lack so much skill (forgetting the name), it would bother me even more!

    See you all soon!!

  • Clothing, books, and toys.  That’s what messing up my house.  I need to buy some more storage containers for the girls clothes.  I just haven’t been able to bring myself to spend 7 or 8 bucks on one under-bed storage container.  I only want to pay 3!

  • JV of what? The local public school?  Congratulations anyway to Wit.  I will pray.  We quit soccer because it was such a huge commitment to play up to the next level, and I’d already found myself trying to be two places at once, or called from church for a meet.  I will pray for you books too.  They might have found their way onto ebay.  We got a great deal on a Saxon math book there.  Xanga has the slows for me too, but for the most part, my xanga troubles are solved.  We had to get a new computer, it kept freezing.  I hope it’s just xanga and not something more far reaching.

  • RYC:  Baby Proof was a really good read, very much the style book I like to read.  It was close to a Kinsella read, but I think the writing was a little better.  If you didn’t like the stress in Kinsella’s books, but liked the style you’ll like to read Baby Proof.  Now I’m off to the Library to get Griffin’s two other books.

  • Tractor square dancing. haha  That’s just too funny.

That’s sad about your internet. Hopefully I’ll see you on Friday, that is, if we can go to the Fair earlier in the day.

  • Messy – my house, but not dirty (well, a little bit) but cluttered.  I can’t imagine adding textbooks.  My goal for fall is to reorganize my life.

Happy – lots of things, but crying baby needs mee….

  • I will be organizing the school area today.  Maybe then I will feel ready to start school!  We start Monday.

Bonnie ‘scrapbooklady’ came and hung out with me yesterday and helped me clean out my junk drawers (I’m up to two junk drawers now).

After I make chore lists and schedules, maybe I’ll have time to write a blog entry?

Hope you find the Apologia stuff.  I’ll ask Anthony to pray about that one.  :*)
