  • Ooh, There’s Gonna Be Fireworks…

I love that song. (Remember Schoolhouse Rock? Click on the title!)  State College (basically where I live) has the 4th or 5th best fireworks show in the nation. However, we had a wonderful show sitting in our backyard. Two of our neighbors spent thousands of dollars on fireworks, so we got to ooh and aah and use our own bathroom.  Plus, when it started to rain, we all just ducked into the screened porch!  The B’s came to join us for a cook-in: hot dogs on the stove, pasta salad, chips, and cookies. A made her delicious Butterfinger pudding thing. Mmmm!

The rest of the day passed in rather unpatriotic fashion. I watered plants (not knowing if the cloudy day would finally produce some much-needed rain. Can you send some to me, you Texas gals?), reviewed my list of things to do and both added and eliminated items, covered my England for Dummies in wrapping paper so I can read it in public without embarrassment, washed and folded much laundry, and packed most of my suitcase.  How exciting! I think TGD and I will have a suitcase each for clothes, shoes, etc., a carry-on bag each, and one “extra” suitcase for toiletries, souvenirs, and so forth to share. We wanted to travel without that extra suitcase, and we can, but I fear the weight limit per bag will be too close. So, why not take one extra bag?

Tomorrow is my last day of errands (library books, etc.), and we go to dinner at the home of the noble Cheese Puff and BlueSmurfGirl.  I have to take a salad. I’m not a very good salad maker.  But, really, how can one be a bad salad maker?  Do you have some simple food that’s tough for you to make?

  • If you can (meaning… if you can each check 2 bags)… take another one… even if its empty… so you can bring back all the stuff you’ll buy while you’re over there.

  • Have a marvelous time!!! Wish I was going too! :)

  • mm..schoolhouse rock….that one’s pretty good..

this one’s pretty awesome too..maybe you’ve heard it

  • I hate to prepare greens for salad.  How much washing is enough? Then you have to dry them.  Are yours the suitcases that hook together?  It might be easier if your extra bag could be belted to another bag.  Leave room for things you’ll want to bring back too.  How long will your stay be this time?

  • I remember SchoolHouse Rock, but I don’t remember that song.

The only thing about fireworks that I don’t like is having to travel to them, fight the crowd, find a parking space, fight the crowd some more, find your car again, and wait in line to leave.  How nice that you could sit in your backyard!

  • If worse comes to worse, and you haven’t taken that extra bag to bring stuff home in, it is possible to buy a bag there. (smile)

With a covered book, you’ll look like a teacher at a frugal elementary school.

I will miss you. (I assume you won’t be blogging while gone, but perhaps I’m wrong, and you’re taking the trusty laptop.)

  • It seems like it would be tough to mess up a salad.

  • Schoolhouse rock? I definitely remember that! Though I can’t quite remember that song…it’s been a long, long time. (Remember “Lolly’s, Lolly’s, Lolly’s, get your adverbs here! Father, son, and Lolly, get your adverbs here!”? Or the Mr. Morton song?)

I never really liked those Dummy’s guide books. One reason is that there are way to many of them. (They probably have a Dummy’s guide to making a salad, or perhaps a Dummy’s guide to ordering online.) The second is, who wants to read a book that promptly declares them a dummy? Of course, if you wrap it, that might be different. But still….

(it’s probably the way to many books that I don’t like. I don’t like Lowe’s at all, simply because they always had way too many ads on HGTV..when we actually had time to watch the decorating shows!)

  • Sounds like you had fun! It also sounds like everyone got rain yesterday! Have a great time on your trip!!! I make great salads…it’s everything else I have trouble with! LOL!

  • Mary,

I’d love hear hear about your upcoming move to London. Would you be willing to share? God bless you.

  • England for Dummies… haha! Sounds like a book I would need too if I ever visited England. Yes, I did go to see the fireworks with some church friends. It actually didn’t rain too much at all, which made me very happy indeed.

  • My prayer is that you have a wonderful and safe trip in England.  Can’t wait to read all about it and see the pics you’ll take with your new camera. Be blessed!

  • Have a wonderful trip to England – it seems it’s come up fast. I’ll look forward to hearing about it all when you get back – and seeing pictures.

  • RYC: I’m so excited for you. Make sure to blog while you are there! God bless you.

  • The fewer bags you check the less chance of them getting “lost”. Three is a good number to start with. And the weight limit is only 50 lbs per bag and 2 bags per person. So you just might need to buy one over there to help bring home all the extra treasures you’ll find. I’ve been very fortunate that not anything is really too difficult – just time consuming!

  • I will, and don’t worry. Just don’t leave any bags lying around in airports.

I know how you feel about leaving the kids. When I did it, it was only for 5-6 days, and I just had to put it out of my mind, or I would have gone crazy. I was so far away, I couldn’t do anything, and I had to trust that they were in good hands.

  • Mr. M. and I prayed for your trip last night.  We will be praying for you – I need to scroll back through your posts and find out how long your stay will be this time.  We had a church friend who flew to Florida without his family and told each of his kids they were his favorite (wink wink) before he left.  He arrived back safely and is now going grey.  I have a cousin and brother in law who probably circle the globe in an airplane several times a year in mileage.

  • I have been praying – and I shall continue to do so! May you know the “peace that passes all understanding” and the assurance that our God is indeed in control over every little detail.

  • Hope you’re having fun in England. I certainly am out here.
