  • What I Did Last Week

I feel as if I should write a fifth grade composition. I can hardly believe that I didn’t write an entry for a whole week!  Perhaps you were a bit glad, eh?  So, let’s see…what happened this week?    [insert long silence]    Uh… Is anyone else like this? When someone asks me on a Monday, “So, what did you do this weekend?” I immediately resemble a stammering deer in the headlights. I have absolutely no idea what I did just 24 hours ago. However, two things stick out pretty well from this week and both were on Thursday.

Thursday was one of those wonderful summer days: hot but not too sweaty, sunny with patches of clouds, and a place to go with lots of fun. I loaded up the kids and two spares and headed to the ill-named Del Grosso’s Amusement Park.  I had $6 off coupons for all of us, so we got ride all day and waterpark tickets for $10. It turned out that it was DARE anit-drug day, so any child under 18 who signed an anti-drug pledge got a 10 cent soda (usually $1.75) and a free pass for the day!  Wow! We can go back again for free!

A funny side story about the drug pledge: one of my kids said to me, “Mom, how long will this drug thing last? A year?”   I looked sideways at said child and said, “Why, are you planning to start snorting coke soon?”  I still don’t know why this child would worry. Then, the next day, Little Miss asked a similar question. This led to a discussion of drug possession charges and more.  I found it funny that all the COPS watching they’ve done with their daddy didn’t already provide them with this information.

But, back to Del Grosso’s!  We were a fun bunch (Kroekers, B’s, Mc’s, Smurfs, F’s, and more) and stayed until the bitter end (9:00) when they closed the park. Even though I had taken a Dramamine, I still avoided the spinny rides.  I did the ferris wheel, bumper cars, Crazy Mouse, and train.  All the rest–not worth it! I’m such an old woman.

Just look how much fun we had!

The second memorable thing happened on the way home.  I was taking one of the spare children to his house. I missed the turn to his road, backed up, and turned down the road. However, I failed to back up quite enough. When I turned, I hit a pile of dirt. This caused a puncture in the air conditioner, bending of supports, and some other miscellaneous things.  The car is still driveable, but it was still almost $2000 worth of damage! I have not had an insurance-involved car thing since I was 16 years old.  Oh, the shame.

Tonight, I watched episode 2 of The Brontes of Haworth, prepping myself for my trip (in TWO weeks!).  We spent a lot of the day packing for our camping trip.  (Well, I packed when I was not driving 45 minutes one-way for the insurance guy to inspect the van and then shopping for groceries. TGD and the boys packed all day.)

I shall be MIA for about a week. Make sure you miss me and say things like, “Oh, where oh where can she be?” even though you know.

When was your last car wreck?

  • Heh how odd that I should have a car mishap just yesterday! My last more-than-scratched car thingy was about a year ago, and I actually just wrote about it on my site… moral of my story, say hi to the fire hydrant when it waves at you, and then remember it doesn’t like to get out of the way like any sensible yellow thing would do. :D

And we miss you already!!! :)

  • My last car wreck? About 16 years ago. And I can happily say it wasn’t my fault!

ryc: my finger issue: I have a pinched nerve, but it is pinched by muscle & not joints. It is the nerve that affects the thumb, index & middle fingers & also the palm of the hand. My finger has been numb for about 2 months & the other parts get tingly now & then (depending on what I’m doing). Thankfully, it seems to be finally going away. I will have a good report for my chiropractor on Monday.

  • That picture is classic!

I shall miss you. Lots. (no, really, I will!)

  • Those two….They made me laugh. Such a thrilling ride!;)

  • BTW, who’s Gatsby? The Great Gatsby? I’ve never seen it…

  • Aw….so sorry re. your car. I’ve had a few boo-boos with our full size van. Not a fun vehicle to drive.

So, I guess I am ignorant…where are you going? In 2 weeks it’s England, right? But why the MIA now?

I’ll have to check out your video! Never heard of it…but, I’m intrigued!

  • Glad you had such a fun summer day! And glad no one was hurt in the wreck. I had a small fender-bender just last year, except no one’s fender was actually bent, so harm, no foul. I just kind of bumped her from behind cuz I was not paying very close attention. Blushes. Will be sure to miss you and ask “Where is she?” :)

  • What a shame about your van. Does the AC still work? See you tomorrow!

  • What a great picture – they can hardly contain their excitement!

    Sorry about the accident… I can’t remember if I’ve ever had one….

  • Any problems regarding A/C must be repaired immediately.  Couldn’t take a summer without.

Glad you didn’t hit a tree or mailbox like most people do that back out of our driveway.  Our neighbor’s is conveniently positioned just beyond our exit.

I thought of sending the hubby right back outside when he came in with that bee in his bonnet…but was afraid it would dive in and sting him.  Then he would get the big head and life would become intolerable.

You always leave great comments and I for one will miss you while you’re gone.  Have fun!

  • I didn’t realize it’d been a week since you posted, but I did notice your absence from the Xanga world. I do so enjoy reading your posts. Good deals always sweeten an experience for me – sounds like you all had a fun time at the amusement park.

Unfortunately I’ve had a little too much experience with car wrecks, but I’m hoping I’m moving on now. The last one was 2.5 years ago on New Years Eve 2004, actually. My car (appropriately named Calamity Jane by one of my friends ) was totaled and the accident declared to be no fault. Do you name your cars?

  • As you would probably assume, I have never wrecked a car, but I fell on my bike once and broke my wrist. It was my left one too. For most people that may not be as bad as their right, but for me, that’s not good, especially since we had a art lesson thing then too.

  • Maybe it is a sibling thing.  We had the 4 wheeler loaded on the back of the truck on Saturday.  (I was dropping it off to get fixed on Sunday) The tailgate was down and he back it into another vehicle, after Emily’s softball game.  Of course this was my fault, even though I wasn’t there, since it was my idea to take the 4 wheeler to get fixed.

  • Wow…you are one busy lady.  I am the same way when people ask me about my weekend…I know that I never stopped, but I can’t remember what it was that I did!  Thankfully, in my life, I have only had a few fender benders…and none caused by me.  About 2.5 years ago, an old guy “bumped” the back right of my bumper while he was trying to go around me…it was still scary…because it reminded me how vulnerable we are when we are carrying our precious cargo in our vehicles.  Be Blessed…Susan

  • Dirt did all of that??? Wow! Hope your camping trip is a relaxing one. Stay away from killer dirt piles

  • I had someone rear end me a few months ago.  No damage to my minivan, but her little single person car was smooshed.

I did miss you!  And I will miss you all week.  And yes, I am totally like that.  I have to write that day or spend hours trying to remember!

  • haha i love that pic! poor scott was soo tired.
I’m very proud to say that so far i’ve had no car problems and i hope to keep it that way. ;^)
    have fun camping!

  • We will miss you. Have fun camping, and don’t bump into any more dirt piles, you hear?! I’m just glad it wasn’t any worse, but boo hoo to the big bill.

  • Aww, that’s too bad about the car repairs.  I have been fortunate enough to never have had any car accidents…I just have all kinds of car trouble (which can also be somewhat costly). :)   I hope that you are not planning to be MIA this coming weekend, because I am coming home and expecting to see you!

  • I have never crashed anybody’s car. Heh-heh.

  • Glad you had fun at Del Grosso’s, but gotta agree with ya. Who came up with that name? Yeesh! Soooo sorry about your car, did you have a minor breakdown over the cost?

  • Sounds like a fun day. :)

My LAST and ONLY car wreck was in 1999. Of course…..on PAPER the accident was MY fault…but the truth is, the man in front of me slammed on his brakes going through a green light to avoid hitting a car that ran a RED light going full speed on the cross street. However, since the person who ran the red light was no where to be found- and because I slammed into the REAR of a truck it was my fault. The officer in much too snide of a voice said, “A safe driver would have been far enough back from the truck to see a car running the red light.”

Anyhow….I remember the day like it was yesterday, because my husband still REMINDS me of the accident.  (ACCCCK!)

  • Sorry to hear about your car. I hate it when things like that happen.

I love the description of your day. I thought it sounds like great fun. I also love the picture as well. That’s one to hold onto :)

  • Lol, that picture is pretty funny, particularly with your caption.

  • My last wreck was last May!  Don’t jinx me!  We’re planning on leaving Saturday morning, so we should arrive around 2 or 3 depending on how many stops we need to make.

  • You have a great time!  When you can check out the story of “KYTGU” on my blog in answer to your question.

  • Enjoy your time away. And watch out for those dirt piles.  They come out of nowhere!

  • My accident was a little over 2-1/2 years ago, I hit a parked car.  I blame it on the sun in my eyes at 8:30 a.m.

  • Still missing you!

Just had to tell you, on a car wreck note, my windshield got a big smash from a rock yesterday!  AHHH!

  • I wondered where you were.  I must have missed this post.  I haven’t been checking every day because of spelling camp and other things.  Sooo sorry about the car…  Two weeks until the big trip!  I found something that made me think of you, but it has nothing to do with ‘Hingland.  It’s kind of wierd, perhaps you’ll wonder what I was thinking.  Cool deal you got at Del Grosso’s.
