  • Can I Hear an “AMEN!”

Last night, I finished the second of three sets of math writing things. These were the most annoying math writings I’ve ever done. Statistics on immigration and racial diversity–oh, the agony! What took forever was looking up statistics and info on the internet. (In case you’d like to see what on earth I wrote, the previous entry contains one-fourth of a lesson. To look at it, it looks like very little work. But the internet searching and coming up with appropriate statistics and a tie-in article really took a lot of time. Praise God for a wonderful husband who helped me out by searching the net with me and giving me great ideas!

Now, I have five more articles to write, due Monday. These are much easier as I am NOT writing about statistics and immigration! These lessons are on forensics and rates and ratios. I’ve got one 100% done and the rest between 30% and 75% finished.

But, for now, we are going to change our clothes and drive an hour and a half to a barn dance! The parents of our friend TB (not the contagious kind) host a barn dance every year.  It’s a potluck supper and square dancing. I’ve wanted to go for years, but this is the first time we are going.  I rarely get to dance, and as TGD will tell you, that might be a good thing.  (Bobby and Sissy we are not) But, for the most part, I can square dance. And, it is so much fun!

Have you ever square danced? What’s you favorite dancing? (Did you know who Bobby and Sissy were?)

  • i love square dancing….I also like 2 stepping and country western dancing….acutally i just like dancing……i wanna learn all kinds…ballroom, salsa… and swing…i really wanna learn swing….

  • Oh yes – to both questions! My grandfather loves the Lawrence Welk Show, so assuming that’s the same “Bobby & Sissy” you’re talking about, I think I know who they are.

And, I do enjoy dancing . . . though I think you knew that. I’m relatively new at square dancing (thinks of times when someone kept yelling “right hand, Katie, right hand!”) but I love swing. (East Coast is all I know – and I like the “closed version” better). Ballroom (waltz, foxtrot, cha-cha) is quite fun, too, as well as my weekly more ballet classes.

    Happy dancing tonight!

  • AMEN!!! :)

I love to square dance, though contra is my favorite, with swing a close second. Enjoy the dancing!

  • Regardless of  the fact that I’m 14, I do know who Bobby and Sissy are…

It’s kind of sad that I do, actually.

  • Just passing thru….

I tried Hip Hop and thought I would break every bone in my body!!  Glad no one had me on video tape….hmmm…..I think!!  : 0

    Have fun!!

  • Yes, I have square danced, and I certainly know who Bobby and Sissy are (and all of Bobby’s other dance partners, none of whom could hold a light to Sissy!). And even if you are no Sissy and I am no Bobby, I still enjoy dancing with you!

  • I think your math writing is pretty good! Great work! :)

Square dancing looks fun-I have never square danced….but I’m related to Bob Wills (as in  Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys) who held barn dances and attended them for years….maybe square dancing is in my blood?

I’d love to see pictures of your barn dancing party!! :)

  • Last I remember square dancing was 6th grade gym class but I had a blast and would love to do it again!!

As for Bobby and Sissy, yes, we are still watching Lawrence Welk nearly every Sat. night.  It is about the only TV (not videos) we will let our children watch (Would they watch it if we did not serve ice cream? We don’t know).  My dance partner does a great imitation of Bobby (he can flip up that back leg to a tee.  It is hysterical.) When my high schooler takes Music Appreciation next year she may be surprised to find out that Lawrence Welk does not play as big a part in music history as her Mom & Dad seem to indicate!

When I was a kid, my father, who is a Classical Music snob and did not like the champagne music, would always turn the channel when LW came on (unless Henry Questa was playing his clarinet) so my watching it as an adult has meant making up for lost time, I guess.

Is there any tv program left that is appropriate and entertaining for the whole family? The tap dancing is the best!  So we are a bunch of geeks still watcing ‘senior citizen’ programming.  At least it is clean!!

  • Oops.  Sorry about the double comment.

  • As if I am not already clogging up your comment board, I just had to make another comment so I could show you my new avatar. That is my patron saint, Blessed Anna Maria Taigi.  She was a mother of seven and her desire in life was to make her marriage her ministry.  I second that!

  • Hope you’re having a great weekend!

  • FUN!  Hope you are haivng a GREAT time!  However I cannot resist a Mr. Bennet quote, “Would he have sprained his ankle in the first dance!” :)

  • Amen. I scored as Elizabeth Bennet. If only I was as easy on the eyes as Keira Knightley (albeit in my totally macho, masculine way). And I know nothing of dancing. Wait, that’s not quite true. I know the one step, two step.

  • Amen. And I prefer ballroom dancing over anything else. One on one is a lot better, personally…

  • I’ve square danced before. My gparents knew a guy who did the calls n everything; he just made them up as he went along too.

    bye!

  • Ooh, a barn dance!! That sounds like so much fun. I’d love to have one of those, only I can’t seem to think of any barns here that would do. I’m sure that will be a ton of fun.

Thanks for wishing me happy birthday! My day was made lovely by all the loving, wonderful people in my life. I’m so excessively blessed!!

  • nope. but i’m def going to see it!!!

  • Nope. Never heard of Bobby and Sissy until I read this. Those are pretty dorky outfits that they are wearing. LOL

  • I square danced for the first time at a Christmas party last year.  It was a lot of fun, so much fun I’ve been wondering if I should have the guy come to the rehearsal dinner.
