  • I Got a Job! (I Think)

I was asked to write some more math stuff for the publisher I worked for before. This time, it is to be student guides for a series of integrated remedial math stuff. I’d rather write the integrated math stuff because it is interesting paragraphs on various topics. Still, I am happy to have another project, especially since school is over and I have more time. Now, if the editor will just get back to me regarding the first lesson I sent him to tell me if I’m on the right track…  This project is due Friday, so timely feedback is quite welcome!

I’ve been reading Susan Wise Bauer’s History of the World, Part 1 (Isn’t that a Mel Brooks movie?) I’m really enjoying it.  She wrote a four-volume series for children, but this book is for adults. Her premise is that stories are more interesting than artifacts, and even the mythology of a people can give us a clue to what they were really like. I appreciate the fact that she closes each brief chapter with a time line comparing the previous two chapters. It’s neat to see where Abraham fits in with the Pharaoh line or with the Chinese dynasties.

Of course, I’m also reading some fluff to keep my mind fuzzy. Can’t get too knowledgeable, can I?

One week and LadyoftheManse visits!  That will be fun. Any other Xangans heading to PA this summer and want to visit?

    Jokes!

A mathematician wandered home at 3 AM. His wife became very upset, telling
him, “You’re late! You said you’d be home by 11:45!” The mathematician
replied, “I’m right on time. I said I’d be home by a quarter of twelve.”

Why did the chicken cross the Möbius strip?

To get to the same side.

  • Those jokes are truly impressive and “high class”.  Bravo!

  • What was it exactly that you didn’t like about it? Pirates, I mean.

  • They never give you very long to write before the deadline, do they? I am glad you have that opportunity– sounds interesting!

  • ryc: I’m looking at Veritas Press history & their omnibus curriculum. Are you familiar with them?

  • Oh I would love to visit, but we probably won’t make it back this summer or fall or winter or who know’s when we’ll be back!  Any plans to visit the extended Seller’s in San Antonio?

  • Awesome joke!

I would love to visit, but not this year.  The east coast is on my list though.

    Love the new picture.

Do you recommend Saxon above say McGraw Hill?  We are switching to that after K-3rd of Addison-Wesley.

  • Congrats on the job! It’s great to work from home, isn’t it? I love being able to stay home with the kids but at the same able to work.

  • Thank you for the chicken joke… my sixth grader will LOVE it! :)

  • originally from Xenia, attended CU :)

  • I’ve been through so many curriculums! I’m not sure I could say I’m classically minded, but I’m looking for something that I can teach to all my girls at the same time with extra work for Emily since she’s in high school (gotta get those hours in!). We used to do where everyone had their own curriculum for each subject, but I felt like we weren’t doing anything together, so I’m looking for something for history & science that can be done as a family. I think I found the science (not my fav subject for teaching), but I haven’t found a history I really like (except for The Mystery of History, but that only has 2 volumes so far). I liked the Weaver curriculum, but I couldn’t find all the books that it required, so out with that! I guess I’ll order the Veritas, and hope I can send it back if it isn’t what I think it is!

  • RYC: I guess I should clarify, the water/pop equation is for every liter it manufacters.  Coke just made the announcement in China.

  • Love the jokes, but I had to read the first one twice–duh!    Congrats on the job!

  • That’s me playing in the recording, Teacher!

  • Yes, Kat, Erika, and Julianne are doing theirs. Maybe you could make it just for the speeches? That is what I am doing since I need to work on the portfolios and then head up th church at 8:15 just for the speeches. The rest of the fam is going to prayer meeting.

  • Xanga conversation continues (lol): It is grade specific, but I figured I could either dumb down the elementary stuff to the younger girls or give Katrina more to do while Emily does the Omnibus. I was hoping to get them all on the renaissance & reformation era regardless of grade and just adjust as needed. (We’ve already done ancient & medival history.)

  • hows about sending us those legendary photos of Wit`s braided hair, eh? we all want to see`em!!

  • RYC: Thanks for thinking about me and scrubbin’ toilets in the same thought ;)

  • Cute jokes, and congrats on the job. Have a wonderful evening!!!

  • Ohhh, I get the first joke now.  Here’s my science joke.  Two atoms were leaving the restaurant, and the wife atom turned to her husband atom and said, “We have to go back in, I’ve lost an electron.”  The husband atom asked, “Are your sure?” “Yes, I’m positive,”  she replied.

  • I like your recommendation for history reading.  I never liked it, it seemed so dry, but that sounds interesting!   Congratualtions on the job.  We just learned about the importance of prompt frequent feedback in ed. psyc.
