  • All Sorts of Movies

What fun it has been to discover that many share my irrational ankle-grabbing fear!

Yesterday, the kids and I went to my mom’s house for the evening and overnight.  My mom, her friend, and I went to see Spiderman 3.  I liked the movie.  (Do not read next bit if you haven’t seen the movie. Skip to next paragraph!) Harry should not be dead. No, no, no.  That makes me not happy at all.  Harry should live happily with Peter and they should take on the world together. Not fair.

Music and Lyrics was a cute movie.  TGD was rather bored with it, so you may want to reserve it for a chick flick night.  I liked the movie because I’m a fan of Hugh Grant (HG) and I was a teen of the 80′s. I derived vast amusement from the fact that he performed at a class of 1987 reunion as I’m from the class of 1987.  When HG threw out his hip and had to limp off stage, we just about died with laughter.  Oh, the fun of that.   Will you like M&L? If you enjoy romantic comedy, find amusement in bands like Wham!, or can relate to Drew Barrymore’s insecure, writer-wanna-be character, I think you will like it very well. If you are looking for action, slapstick comedy, or sexual tension, look elsewhere.

I made my first-ever picture slide show in Windows Movie Maker.  I wish I knew how to fade the music better. Any advice?

Yesterday, I bought a video camera.  We had my mom’s old one which had no battery. Extension cords will only take you so far…  I went to my grandma’s today and “interviewed” her on tape.  I asked her all sorts of questions about her life and this and that. It was a lot of fun.  I’ll have to download it to the computer and edit it, add pictures, etc. to make a very cool family heirloom.  Or not.

What questions do you wish you could ask your parents/grandparents about their lives?

  • Rob got up and went to computer during M&L, but we both thought the dialog was great…I actually liked it!

I have been using WMM too, fading the music is tricky, I searched a tutorial online and that helped!

  • My grandmother witnessed dog fights on the border of Germany and Switzerland when she was a child.  There are probably some interesting stories there!  I love researching and learning about my family’s history.  And no, there are no Justins in my geneaology. (I’ve looked for one, but to no avail!!) ;)

RYC: I get most of them from fontfreak.com and dafont.com.  Fontparadise.com also has some good ones.

  • Yes, I did…Dad’s cracked that joke before (more than once)!

But, I do have a great aunt named Mary Sue Case - as in suitcase.

  • if you’re going to make a picture slideshow.i suggest photostory..it’s downloadable free from the microsoft website..it’s a lot easier to use..it makes it look even more professional than windows movie maker..and it fades out music automatically for you..

  • Mary,

RYC: A road trip would be nice! We’re contemplating one for August, but won’t know for sure until July. God bless you.

  • You got a new camcorder?! Fun! I want to get one soon, too. But I’ll need a newer computer to download the movies onto.

My grandparents are all dead, but they did share a lot of stories with us while we were growing up. My mom & dad are great sources of their stories (at least they are for now, their memories aren’t what they used to be).

  • Check out Lifebio.com (Way cool!)

I asked my grandmother 8 little questions and asked her to write the answers in a blank book. She carefully counted out the pages and wrote me a whole book (She was a teacher too).

    I cherish that book.

  • I really wanted to see Music and Lyrics. Glad to hear it is fun! My grandparents have all passed on. My family on both sides were pretty good about telling old family stories and talking about how they grew up, but none of it is written down.

  • Thanks for your comments on my blog. Please feel free to interview me. I know my mom is working on stories from their time in Africa – am anxious to read it.

    Have a blessed day.

  • My husband and I watched Spiderman 3 with our son!  I liked it!! Yes, I agree with you, Harry could have turned around and be one of the good guys!!!!

  • I am personally quite psyched about the new video camera!

  • You’re right that I am tired & miserable, but I’m not crabby– at the moment. Who knows what today will bring. It has been a very interesting day so far & it’s not even lunch yet. I have to take Mike to the ER because our dr. doesn’t have crutches. The reception said they would probably want to take xrays anyway. Like I have time for this!

Just noticed as I came on your site that your expertise is chocolate chip cookie baking. I think I need to make some. I have a feeling that if I do, my family will not be disappointed.

  • Being the tech geek that I am, I wish I could help with the WMM problem, but I never used WMM even when I used a PC. I did play around in iMovie and iDVD on my Mac yesterday though… I love my Mac. :)

That’s so great that you interviewed your grandma. I only have one grandparent left and my mom wants to make sure she goes through old pictures, etc. and identifies who people are and what heirlooms are important. My paternal grandpa died when I was a baby so I would have liked to ask him anything at all. For a school project (8th grade, I think), we had to interview someone in our family who lived during WWII. My grandpa never usually talked about his time in the army so I was glad I got to hear his experiences and stories through that project.

RYC: Thanks for the encouragement and prayers about the job situation. I am sure it work out just fine, as God’s plan usually–ok, always–does.

  • ryc:  yes, deja vu was pretty good.  it kept you on your toes and wasn’t boring.  it is somewhat predictable in its plot line, but that was forgiveable with the overall effect of the movie…and i wasn’t sure what the ending would be.

so you liked music and lyrics?  i wanted to get that one last night, but it was all checked out.  :(    my 12 year old told me she heard it had alot of sex scenes….was she right?  is this a movie i should watch with the hubby or is it okay for teens to watch?

(did you know we graduated the same year?  how cool is that!)

  • I love the book, but yeah i don’t think i’d like it as much with out seeing the movie. Haha yeah i like all the little sidenotes.

  • Concerning the Spiderman spoiler: good riddance, say I. I never liked Harry, or James Franco (or anyone in Spiderman, come to think of it). Batman is incomparably better.

  • “What questions do you wish you could ask your parents/grandparents about their lives?”

Why on earth didn’t you buy stock in Apple Computers when it was first issued?

  • Congratulation on your first picture slide show and the new video camera! Sounds like fun! :)

  • I am lucky to have a long-lived family on my mother’s side.  My grandmother lived to be 94, and I was out of college with my first girl before she died so Grandma knew her great-grandchildren. She was so funny to listen to.  She was born in 1895 and first drove horse and buggy.  I remember her talking about ironing; no electric iron either.

Her older sister outlived her; Auntiemaw lived to be 104.  Their younger brother, Uncle Jimmy was born in 1906 and still mows his own lawn.  It was an experience to just sit and listen to them talk about the past and the way things were done.  I don’t live close enough to Uncle Jimmy to visit with him regularly.

Congratulation on your new camera.  I hope we all benefit from this! hahahaha

  • I’ll tell Beth, that will bum her out. Maybe I’ll have her send you something…

  • You know that scene in the first Indiana Jones where the woman beats the sherpa in a drinking contest? I’ll bet that was you. And I haven’t seen it yet, but I have to say I’m disappointed in Harry’s fate. But hey, what do you expect? It’s Spiderman. Angst and suffering for everybody.

  • HI!!! I’m back!! I feel like I’ve been in another world lately…. but, in a very good way.  I miss “xanga chatting” with you and I’ve been ever so slack with my comments on other’s, even close friends’, sites.  I’m sure I will be boycotted! Ha!! Just kidding, but, I’ve actually “had a life” lately, or, at least, a busier, more organized life.  We’ve gotten over our bronchial issues, (how’s your stuff, by-the-way?) and I’ve been merrily planting, weeding and raking in the garden for the last three nights in a row!! That’s just as invigorating to me as going on a shopping binge is for some!!  It really is “my excersize”, so, when I don’t get it in the Spring, I’m grumpy…. & dumpy!

I thought your husband was out of town until Sunday?  Am I wrong? Did you see Music & Lyric before he left or did he come home early? I went a few weeks ago with some girlfriends and I really liked it.  I was singing, ”All I wanna do is find a way back into love…” for days…. then, I showed my husband the previews & some clips on their website and after that, “then… POP!! goes my heart!” was the cycling song in my head. Yes, I’m the lyrisist-wanna-be, but, I do write songs and love the whole process of getting just the right rhyme or line that expresses the exact feeling or message.  Besides that, though, I just thoroughly enjoyed both actors, Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore in their roles & time period.  Something was very different about Drew Barrymore to me than in the other movies I’ve seen her in.  I found her more mature and believable.  Anyway, I’m off to have a bowl of chocolate mint chip ice cream and sit with my hubby before he “whisks” me off to bed!! ;)   Hope you have not thought me rude for my lack of xanga interaction, I’m trying to stay off purposely….. trying to have some semblance of discipline in my life!! :D   Nighty-night!

  • I’d want to know little things, like what they wore, and big things, like what was it like following the rise of the third reich in the news.
