  • Text Me

The play is zipping along at a zippy pace.  Well, at least I’m pretending it is!  I helped Hunter review his lines today while we spread crabgrass preventer and fertilizer on the lawn. I trailed him around reading the other parts while he said his line. Across the yard, across the yard, “All eat and drink in joy for tonight is the bridal feast!” Across the yard, “Why, why did you marry me?” Refill the spreader… What must the kids getting off the school bus have thought?

Speaking of this play, in case some of you do not know, it is an original work.  In 1995 or so, a  man from my church in Ohio (Bob) approached me about writing a musical suitable for Christian high schools to perform.  I suggested that we write one based on the fairy tale, King Thrushbeard. I wrote the play and many of the lyrics (and hummed a few tunes).  Bob wrote both the tune and the lyrics for the song Hunter sang in the previous video clip.  The play was never performed, and none of the music was written down. All I had was an old cassette tape of Bob playing the piano and singing some of the songs, one paper copy of the script, and my memories.

This past fall, bkroeker and flutemom38 said, “Hey, would you like to do a musical?” I said, “Sure. Want to do mine?”  Bkroeker took the sketchy outlines of songs and wrote all the music for them. He changed them around and added choruses. We scrapped two songs and wrote another in a ski lodge while chaperoning a youth group snow tubing event and another for a new character.  I added six or so parts so that everyone who wanted to be in the play could be in it.

Now, it all comes down to this: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

I did a brand, new thing for me this afternoon. I sent a text message from my cell phone! Also, I got my first personal text message.  I felt like an old fuddy duddy as I couldn’t figure out how to type it. Every time I’d press one of the keys, it wouldn’t go to the next letter. I finally figured out something, but I had a few funky characters.  Forgive me, CheesePuff!

Do you send text messages? Have you ever sent one?

  • I don’t own a cell phone! Good luck with the play!

  • Ditto on the above comments. I was impressed by Nathan’s singing, more than I expected to be. Granted, I’m not really a music critic. Will there be a tape of this production available?

  • yeah i send around 2000+ a month… it saves my mins…. and i have unlimited texts…. so i save money in the long run

  • I know this is not a confessional, but I admit I have actually texted (sp?)  my daughter during church.  She loves to chew gum which is okay with me as long as it’s done politely and stays in the mouth.  This was not the case.  She was not even aware of what she was doing, but I was about to crawl under a pew every time I heard her pop that gum.  I knew her phone was on vibrate so I got her attention with a little message about gum etiquette.  So… texting can be very helpful in times where you have to remain quiet and attentive.

  • You look beautiful in your new picture…. like an author photo on the back of their latest, best-selling novel!! ;)   I have sent one text message….. but it’s 50(where’s the cent sign??) cents a pop for me!

I’m so excited for you!! I was glad to read your history on the play.  I’d just been thinking about who wrote the song you posted and how it all came about.

I’m so glad to hear you’re giving yourself a break by sleeping in and eating what you want!  Grace…… it’s so hard to give it to ourselves sometimes, isn’t it?  (gee, I say “glad” a lot….  you’d think I was Pollyanna!!)

I gotta get to bed now.  I took a long nap to get rid of my headache after dinner, but, then woke up after everyone went to bed (oh! how I hate that feeling!).  I still have a headache, but, it’s only vague and I think I can sleep now.  We may be staying until Saturday! :( ugh!

  • Voice lessons, yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!  … he already sounds like he has pretty good technique. I’m kind of amazed at his poise.  Has he done a lot of public singing?  Secunda took vocal instruction for two years in college, and it really expanded her upper range.

  • Wow Nathan has a good voice… with a lead like that, I predict a smashing success! :) I’m praying it goes well for y’all. And oh, I never text – takes me longer to push all the buttons than to just call the person…

  • That is amazing!  You can write a musical!  What a talent.  I have very little creativity in me and I really admire it in other people.

I have a cell phone  but have never used the text messaging.  I have a hard enough time typing in the names and numbers!

  • I must say that I *really* like the profile photo!  And I have no clue how to text message someone on my phone.

  • About 3 phone ago, I could text message for “free.” It was included in my plan. The last 2 phone companies charge extra, so no, I don’t text message anymore.

    Hope your play goes well!

  • I get 300 texts (including incoming/outgoing) every month, and honestly, I quite live on text messaging, some days. :) It is such a handy way to converse with people while I am in class or a meeting or something…. I love it!

  • Nice new pic!  You look great.

Yes…I’m a texter.  When my husband doesn’t have his phone with him, I’ll use it to send him email at his desk.  Enjoy your new world of technology!

  • No, I don’t text.  It uses up minutes.  And I only turn my cell phone on when I’m out and about running errands. I think only 2-3 people have my cell number! And I agree with the comments about your new provile pic.  Looks like it belongs on a jacket cover of a good novel. No, we don’t really get many pirate jokes.

  • I’ve never texted.  I’m not sure how!

Praying for you all in and with the play!  I’m sure it will be swell.  Wish there was a live feed web cam so we could all see it.

  • WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!

    Five stars… AWESOME!!!!!

    Mr. Blue

  • No text messaging for me.  No cell phone for me either.  I’m anti cell phone.

  • Nope, no texting here. The little buttons mess me up. Also, I have this association with texting as being “sneaky”… just my little quirk. I’m always happy to talk though! Love my cell phone

  • Oh, you know me.  My philosophy on domestic bliss always begins and ends with nudity.  I was just giving a little reminder on how, when a husband work hours increase, it is important to make the time spent together very memorable.

  • I have sent about 3 text messages in my life, and it takes me forever!  As dh says, “My cell phone has this really cool feature–you can just talk into it!”

  • Today was opening night!  I hope you all broke your respective legs.

  • YESS!! The programs cost $92 even with the discount! Do you think I could appeal to the church to help pay with youth group budget? After all, that is who is doing the play.
