  • It’s Been a Hard Day’s Night

Okay, it was a miserable Tuesday last, but praise God for those dear friends who heard my distress and took to their knees on my behalf. The effective prayers of a righteous man (or woman!) avails much indeed.

So, here I am, back to Xanga. I realize it was only a week, but it seemed like much longer to be away from all you dear folk. I am keen to begin responding to your posts. Yes, I did peek a bit and see what many of you were up to, but I refrained from commenting. I told myself that I would not even so much as reply to anyone, even though I went to several comment boxes. But, I held back.  Yes, I realize my life seems rather pathetic.

On Saturday, a whole herd of teens landed at my house to make movies all afternoon. What fun! We wound up with four “films”:  The Ultimate Plane Crash, the story of an Ultimate Frisbee team who crashes and has a Frisbee match to the death with natives; Romeo and Juliet, Y’all, a western version of R&J where R supposedly gets run over by a hay wagon and J runs off with Indians; WonderBoy, where WonderBoy is thwarted in his attempts to save the girl by his brother, Constructoman, and NastyMan keeps things interesting; and James Bond and the Rubix Cube of Death, a James Bond thriller where Gold and Finger steal the secrets of the UN locked in a Rubix Cube.  (I think Rubix is actually Rubik’s, but they spelled it “Rubix.”) After we ate pizza, we watched all the movies on a big screen and gave out awards.

This week is full to the brim with The King of Peach Fuzz–dress rehearsals Tuesday and Thursday and performances on Friday and Saturday.  Hunter sang one of the songs in church on Sunday morning and impressed quite a number of people who had no idea he could sing!  We are not a clapping church.  After special music, the most one can normally expect is a chorus of “Amens.” But, in both services, people spontaneously clapped! I feel this is a good sign that the play will go well.  Perhaps I should look for augury in the fall of a sparrow instead of in the clapping of Baptists.

I don’t know if any of you are planning to come to see the play, but if you can, please do! You will enjoy yourself a great deal. (Or I’ll quadruple the money you paid for your ticket!)  It’s not only Hunter’s singing-actor debut, but it is my first play ever to be performed!  I’d post some pictures from practice, but they all turned out rather poorly.  You will just have to come and see it for yourselves.  Perhaps  I’ll be able to post some (or a video!) after Tues. or Thurs.

I was wondering if you could tell me the highlight (or low-light) of your week since I feel I missed so much.  What’s good or bad in your life right now?

  • I am really glad you are back!  Seriously!  The highlight of my past several days?  Probably being the opening plenary speaker at the conference over the weekend at Mercyhurst College in Erie (and the very nice comments many people shared afterwards about my talk).  Very enjoyable.  But, of course, that was trumped by getting back home on Saturday to my loving family (extended family given those many high school youth at our home making those movies!!!).

  • Good–I’m getting tons of good grades.
Bad–I have a cousin who goes to Virginia Tech, and we don’t know if she’s alive or dead.

  • Yes, all I’ve been doing is waiting here on Xanga for your return… see how I’m responding only minutes after you posted???? It MUST be true!! ;)

Actually, I just finished “smarting” off to my husband (gotta get some more tape for my mouth!!) ….. oh, gosh! I’m not supposed to be that honest!?? I meant to say, “I just finished spending time with my wonderful husband after his long hard day at work!”  Honestly, he is quite wonderful…… we just both had hard days, headaches, and momentary lapses of childish self-centeredness!!! (I hate it when that happens!! phffffft!!)

I’m so glad you’re back, even if it was a rather short break!  Well….. I think I’ll post some of the better parts of my day and then head off to bed!! For you, I’ll summerize:

We’ve been back and forth on business trips, met a nice lady and her girls last time that made the time pass more enjoyably. We painted the hall a little the other night.  Today, we experimented with some pure maple syrup and successfully made maple sugar!! Hurrah!!  I had an eyeglass appt. to get the prescription corrected.   We had a picnic on the living room floor and, this evening, we kept having “quiet” time so Mommy’s headache would go away!  A varied mix of good and not so good moments.  TTFN!! Ta-Ta For Now!

  • My highlight would be that you are back.  My lowlight would be that I’m writing a check to the IRS tomorrow.  Actually, that’s sort of a highlight because I like owing them rather than them owing me and having my money all this time but I didn’t do as well in estimating so it’s more than I would like.  Otoh, at least we have the money and it’s not so much that we’ll owe a penalty or anything.  See there’s a positive side to everything.  So I’ll just go back to my first sentence.  My highlight is that you are back.  Sorry you had a rough time.

  • “the clapping of Baptists”

Is this one of the signs of spring, or what?

  • RYC: Thanks! Have a great week!

  • Glad to see you posting again.. I sure would have love to go see the play.. It sound really interesting and tempting to go.. :)

  • Whew! I’m glad it was only a week. Welcome back! Glad you feel encouraged about the play and all your various activities. Praying

Highlight- figuring out the wedding invitations. The final “mock up” was finished yesterday and I’m awaiting the nearlywed’s approval. Realize that I’m NOT a scrapbooky or crafty person, but if I do say so myself these turned out pretty well.

  • Hi there!  Sorry you’ve had a rough time.  I have to admit that I didn’t miss you, since I was gone, too.  We had an unplanned week + away from home with no internet access, so I’m feeling pretty out of the loop.  So welcome back to both of us!

The movies sound fun.  Have you ever thought of putting them up on YouTube or somewhere?

  • Ah! My heartiest greetings and salutations to you, our re-xangified Teacherperson! May you give many more guilt-free comments!

  • glad you are back!  :)    i wish i could go and see your play–sounds like it will be really really good!  (is this the one you wrote???)  i am in charge of drama at my co-op next year.  yikes!!!!   and am in the process of looking for some good scripts……

high point(s) of my week?  i bought a house!  lol   and i got to watch both of my daughters perform in their separate dramatic performances on stage … that was fun!  :)

low point of my week?  this icky cold nor-easter (sp)  BRRRR!

  • Did you steal the movie idea from us? We did that last month at our church. Made movies & had our own “Academy Awards” night a few weeks later. It was great fun!

Our high point last week is that KatiaFelonia & RagamuffinKing are now the proud owners of our old house. Yes! Closing finally happened!

  • oh!  and thanks for the quote!  i think i need to hear that right now!  (maybe i will write it where we all can see it so that we finish well…)

  • I’m so glad you weren’t gone too long :)   You’d definitely be missed around here if you ventured off more than a week.

well, two great things are happening this week…first, my two youngest daughters are being water baptized on Wed. night!!!  They are so excited about it, they’re giddy at times. :)

and the second thing is that this 21 day challenge to stop complaining has turned into a church-wide challenge at my church!!  Every day of the challenge, I’ve been sending out emails to the friends and family who took the challenge with me…just sharing what the Lord has been teaching me through this challenge…and we’ve all been keeping each other accountable this way.  Well, my pastor got wind of this goings on, and talked to me about it…long story short, the Lord led him to challenge the church.  And, Sunday, he had me stand up and share my testimony of what the Lord’s doing through this…at the end of service, we handed out bracelets to all who wanted to commit to the challenge.  The response was overwhelming…and I can clearly see how the Lord is going to bring good change to our church and even beyond!!

good luck with the play… how exciting is that?!?!!  maybe y’all should come down here and perform it…our church is very expressive – you’d get much more than a round of AMENS!  :)

  • I’m afraid that I never stopped doing so….

  • Hi–thank you for the letter–I am trying to write back!  (not meaning this email, either, but good ol’ paper and pen!).  The highlight and lowlight of my week was a major confrontation day with my eldest daughter–totally difficult–totally freeing, as I once again, took back authority I had accidentally allowed her to hold on to.  The war’s not over, but a large battle has been fought and I feel blessed by it and, whether she realizes it or not–she has boundaries to be happy about (subconsciously!!  Of course–no one likes to be dethroned!  LOL!).

So–that’s it–and loving the beautiful 70-80′s weather we are having with all sun and no rain for 2 weeks now!

    love

    Corrine

  • So glad you’re back!!! I belong to a group of clapping Baptists!! I used to belong to a group of non-clapping Baptists. I like the clapping ones better!! =)

Well, the highlight of my week was being told that I could have possibly had a heart attack in the past!

  • My highlight this week—I have been invited to my Japanese sister’s wedding and am going to Japan this August with my mom.

My lowlight this week—paying for the plane tix!

    TMK

  • You were missed! If Nathan neglected to tell you that I sent my love to you the other day when I emailed him re: the Excelsior, he will be in . . . um . . . well, I’ll forgive him. But, I did send my love!

Highlight: I get to dance a solo to Rich Mullins’ “Hold Me Jesus” on Friday.
Lowlight: Way too much work to do . . . senior slump has turned into senior pump.

  • Welcome back! We have missed you. It is hard to stay away, isn’t it?

  • Really missed being able to take a peek inside your life last week.   Thanks for your post on the campus tragedy.  All I have seen on the news is the info about the killer and not the victims.  Can’t imagine what the families have been going through.

Break a leg!  Hope everything turns out well with the play.

  • so nice to have you back – I kept checking in just hoping that your self-imposed exile was over.   (I do understand those are sometimes needed, though!)  Btw, where did you find this lovely background?  -Alesha

  • My older boys went through a movie making phase and I loved it.  Quartus got pretty good at video editing, and they had fun with sound effects and background music too.

  • I am so glad you are back!  I felt like a dear, dear friend had moved away!

I am also very upset about the shootings.  It hits me soemtimes really hard in these situations.  It makes me feel so vulnerable and sad.

Sorry you had a tough week.  I’ll pray that this one is better.

I was so thrilled to get an email that you had commented!  You are truly a blessing.

  • I sure didn’t expect you back in a short week.  Last time I said ‘good-bye’ I took about three months off!  I take weeks ‘off’ by accident.  I know things will get better for you. This Va. Tech thing has everybody down.  ~M.E.
