  • For the Glories of the Earth

On a day like today–sunny, low 70s, and gorgeous–it’s hard to believe that this world is fallen and sinful. How much more glorious will the earth be when Christ returns?

I am taking full advantage of this sunshine and am sitting in a lounge chair on the deck with the laptop in my lap. (Well-named device, eh?)  LibbyK is off being a mother’s helper. The other children are reading/working on the last bits of school. Hunter is strumming the guitar and crooning a song of his own making.  And, I don’t have to make supper. I’m not much of a cook on the best of days, but on sunny days, I’m wretched.  Since we have a lot of late-afternoon running about, we are just going to have lunch meat sandwiches.

The daffodils are swollen yellow, about to burst forth in all their Wordsworthian glory. I don’t  have any crocus, or I suppose I’d wax eloquent on them as well.  We have a bird which is trying to build a nest in the wreath on the front porch. While the thrill of a bird, eggs, and babies is vastly appealing to us, it is also terribly enticing to the cat. My humanitarian streak will prevail and we will bring the wreath indoors for a week or so to aid the ill-advised home builder.

I’m feeling so lazy here in the sun. Which is better: to nap in the sun in a lounge chair or to nap in a dark room in your cozy bed?

  • Oh yes, taking a nap in the sun is wonderful. :)

Congratulations to winning that one poll!

  • Living in South Texas has almost made me forget what spring in the North is like, but your post has brought it all back! Now I’m even more homesick than I was five minutes ago. Don’t worry about cooking, take a little extra time and enjoy the day for me too! Also, taking a nap in the “Northern” (key word) sun is much better than a dreary bedroom.

  • Napping in the sun beats being in the house any day of the year!

  • No, um, why would you get that idea… *nervously looks around*

    Mr. Blue

  • Nap?!  What is this strange thing you speak of?

    Have a great afternoon!

  • A nap is a nap…I’d take one anywhere!!

  • I’ll take the sun,but I’d be lounging inside, with it pouring over me through the curtains.

and yes,I’ve been re-reading Jonathan Strange…I read it when it first came out in 2004,and it became one of my favorites…it is a terrific book, and it doesn’t hurt that Susanna Clark(the author) is close with my all-time favorite author,Neil Gaiman…

    much love
    gina

  • I can nap anywhere, anytime.  Lounge chair in the sun does sound better for a nap.

I saw your name in the Theologian’s recent poll.  Congratulations!  Are you a teacher?

  • Nap in the sun…although I prefer just laying in the new green grass to a lawn chair.  Of course it is usually interrupted by a child or two…but that just adds to the fun when they realize that mom is laying on the lawn

  • lazy in the sun – That would be nice.   It’s so cold here.

  • Oh to nap in the sun… how very appealing.

  • I’m glad you got to take a break! I always appreciate your comments.

  • Sun would be nice. We had thunder, lightening, hail and rain on the way home from my parent’s house today. And warm, it is not–especially not in the house (a chilly 54 deg.) because the furnace is not currently working. Being thankful for my woodstove and space heater right now.

I think I will try to convince the lady to send my sister the cookies. I am not optimistic about the state of them once mailed to Canada–where sometimes mail gets held up at the border for a week or more.

I usually copy my posts to both blogs–think I’ve done it every time but once. For some reason I feel more free on Xanga–maybe because most of my family doesn’t know about it yet.

  • Neither. Time is to valuable to waste away napping. Hmm, coming from one who’s wasting his evening on the computer whilst dishes go unwashed and laundry unfolded . . .

  • No matter where it’s taken a nap in the sun is always better!

  • Sun, definitely.

  • I think you might enjoy Strange/Norrell.

  • Of course, it depends on the temperature outside! My favorite napping place is in the sun on the beach listening to the ocean surf *sighs longingly for vacation to come*. But I like to nap on my deck in the sun as well– doesn’t happen too often, though. Of course, when it’s chilly, give me my bed or couch with our fuzzy, brown blanket that everyone fights over.

We had 60 degrees yesterday, but cold front went through last night. It windy & chilly this morning. They’re calling for snow showers from tomorrow through Easter. Gotta get used to this upstate NY weather!

  • I am unable to take naps so I have no opinion– I am too wired in the daytime, but flop into bed exhausted every night! What a difference a day makes in the weather, eh?

  • Mmmmm. That sounds delicious!  I’ve already missed gardening on two of our beautiful days this week because I thought the weather would last, but, after looking at the forecast, I’m seriously…….. bummed!!

I had a Homeschooling Support Group meeting last night and, afterwards, a few of us who have volunteered to help next year went out to Tim Horton’s with the current organizers to dole out responsibilities.  It was fun!  I enjoy doing administration duties, so I will be taking care of the monthly bulletin and the directory, plus various other related issues.  When I told my husband about it, he said, “You’re not going to get cranky for 3 days every month and talk mean to me, are you?”.  I replied, “Honey, I already do that!! What will be the difference?”.  We laughed and he said he meant another 3 days every month!

It’s cold here today.  I’m hoping that Walmart calls me and tells me mine and C.’s glasses are in! I’ve been limping by with this pair that has some sort of fog on the lenses for two years and, now that the new ones are ordered, I’m getting impatient to be able to see clearly!!!

  • Our weather is to turn cold (it already has, actually) for the whole weekend. I can’t believe it. It had been so nice! We’ve had to turn the heat on. It’s quite depressing really!

  • Mary,

Napping isn’t something I do. LOL.

How are you? Get your Easter shopping done yet?

    God bless you.

    Cynthia

  • Just wanted to congratulate you!  That contest was such fun.  I’m jealous of your sunshine–we have a sudden cold snap happening here, and I am trying to be cheerful about it, but it’s hard!

  • RYC:  Delicious weather – now I like that – it’s something I could sink my teeth into.  lol

  • Spring swept through us and left for a few days.  It is sunny and pretty, but very cold here.  My tulips are drooping! Hope you enjoy your weather and soak some sun for me! :)

  • Nap in the sun, of course! It’s so much nicer to feel the sun on your face as you sleep, and just think of all the wonderful vitamins you’re getting! (Not to mention the glorious base tan! :)

  • Hi There! The white socks?  (big smile)  Well, BIZ bleach works great!  It’s a bit expensive but for white & bright, it works!  Do I sound like a commercial?  LOL   Have a great day!   Thanks for the sweet comment too!   ~Amelia

  • RYC: There was no return address label, but I did put my husband’s number in the address book under ICE (In Case of Emergency). I don’t know how many people think to look for that though.

  • Thank you so much for your kind comment.  I picked my name because I am just a weed in God’s garden.  I am also a teacher and was thinking you might be, judging by your name.

  • That sounds so lovely. I’d love to step into that scene for just a minute. . . and lounge with my laptop in the chair in the sun. . . and think of random things. . . and drift off to sleep. . .

    . . .

    . . .

    . . .

    . . .

Oh dear! Time to wake up. I have to go somewhere at three.

    Love ya!

  • Whoops! I knew I was going to forget that it was signed in as my sister, but I’m supposed to being something else, er, several something elses, and I only wanted to browse my subscription digest for just a teensy weensy moment and i wasn’t going to comment anybody, but I did. Anywhosit, this is Britt (LaDamedeShallot).

  • By all means, stay in the lounge chair outside as long as you can.  Our daffodils are about done, our red tulips are coming out now.  I find in interesting, little tidbits like that because it gives me a better comparative picture of your climate.
