  • Put Me in my Place!

I thought it was very appropriate that today’s Word of the Day from Dictonary.com was this one:

    arriviste a-ree-VEEST, noun:

A person who has recently attained success, wealth, or high status but not general acceptance or respect; an upstart.

    Ha ha!

Many people have said, “So, what do you get if you win this contest?” The answer is NOTHING!  Instead, I will make up my own rewards.

    1. I get dinner at Quaker Steak and a trip to see Amazing Grace with TGD.
    2. I get breakfast with eatyourweightincheesepuffs. (Please?)
    3. I get lunch with Sarabelle7. (Please? Friday?)
    4. I get to sit at the library all day Friday and write my book.
    5. I get unlimited chocolate chip cookies today, unless Wit eats all of them.

What would you have chosen as your reward?

  • I could make a very long list of things I would have chosen for a reward, but the gist of it would be weapons, armor, books, more books, free lesson in Old English and Arabic, a car, and a sizable pile of cash.

  • Yay for the win! Tell me how you like Amazing Grace . . . my sister and a friend went with me to see it over spring break and we loved it.

  • Congratulations.  You are fascinating and witty, so I am not surprised.

A book a BaRNES AND nOBLE AND A LARGE N.F Fat hazelnut latte with 2 extra shots to go with it!

  • Hi!  Came over from Dan’s site….glad you were the winner!  If I were to reward myself, I might go to town and hit the flea market, being sure to eat a few Taco’s  while out.  Then come home and take a nap with my favorite “comfort” pillow.  And then I’d let the dishes go until the next day!

    Have a good week!

    Beth

  • Mmmm – even though eating my weight (would that be current weight or goal weight?) in cheese puffs sounds enticing (hey, I like cheese puffs!), I would absolutely have to go with unlimited chocolate chip cookies. Most definitely.

  • I pick the money. PICK THE CASH! Wait, that’s not an option?

    Oh, well, pick the writing.

  • Congratulations, you arriviste you!

  • It would be an honor, a privilege, and a pleasure to enjoy a meal at Quaker Steak and the movie Amazing Grace with you.  Looking forward to it!

  • I would choose the chocolate. I love to reward myself that way ;)

  • i would have chosen eating out at my favorite restraunt or going for a me day at the spa.

  • Congrats! Just wanted to stop by and say that. I voted for JP, but had to by and see your site! Looks fun, so I subbed! :) TB

  • congratulations on winning! I saw you on dan’s site. My favorite authors are Jane Austen, Graham Greene, Emily Bronte, some of C.S. Lewis, some of G.K. Chesterton, Leo Tolstoy (because of Anna Karenina), and Charles Dickens (because of a Tale of Two Cities). There’s more, too. :) These are just the first that came to mind. What are some of your favorite authors?

  • Well, well, well! You have MY respect, if that’s worth anything! :) As for the (ahem!) distasteful subject matter on your current fan list sites…. it’ll die down.  Who knows? Maybe your winning was for “such a time as this” and you are going to be an Esther to them!! LEAD ‘EM ALL TO JESUS, I SAY! (blushingly quiet, now!… giggle!)

Have some cookies and tea WHILE you write at the library!! That sounds like a great prize!!

    Bye, you arriviste, you!

  • Hey I was wondering when the KOPF was going to perform (and maybe even the times?)
    thankx
    w-fan

  • Coffee with KatiaFelonia– I miss her so much! My next choice would be dinner with my hubby at The Bear’s Steak House.

  • congrats on winning the contest.  it was close!  I liked your references below to Gideon, very good.

    Tim

  • What would I choose? Probably a day free of responsibility–meals and cleanup done–just to stitch.

I won some cookies on HSB. One of my friends had a “guess the price” contest, and I won. How to get cookies from MO to ON is the question now.

  • Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

Library would probably be my first pick =)

  • wow..you’ve never seen american idol? ..hmmm..you should really check into it..check it out..it’s actually a really good show..most of the people on there..actually show off signs of talent..and some of them are so good…they could go out there and produce an album right away..

    hehe..i can’t take credit..for the cookie blogring…but thx =)

nice xanga you got..it’s actually quite amusing!!

  • I like the picture of you and the doc!

I agree with the your thought on Norman Rockwell… I used to disdain his work when I was little, then I went to his museum with some friends and was amazed… at the level of detail of his work, the very clever commentary on human nature in each picture, etc.  And then there are some emotionally powerful pictures from his later years that most people have not seen, because the happy lighthearted ones tend to be publicized more.   But his lighthearted pictures are great too… :)

  • lobster and steak

  • On MY site, please!! do you need my email? or is there a link of some sort?

  • A nap.  Is that Quaker Steak place any good?  It always seemed a little weird to me.

  • yes that’s me!! umm my xanga name means yu know narnia and the guy who plays peter his name is William and so i came up with williamfan1 (#1 fan for short w-fan.
thanks for the date i’m SOO excited to see it!!!

  • Would those be soft baked cookies or crispy cookies?  I just discovered my future daughter-in-law likes her cookies crispy to the point of being burnt.  Quartus said HE’D be baking the cookies in their household.   Do you think true love can overcome cookie differences?  She likes her tuna raw, too, so what are ya gonna do?  I’d definitely go for the unlimited soft baked chocolate chip cookies -with no consequences-, but otherwise, a dinner at Quaker Steak, (no such place here but steak is always good) would be my choice.  Since I’d be dining with TGD,(that was the choice you offered), you could come along, and could I bring Mr. M?

Thanks for your encouragement on the story.  I really appreciate your comments.  I have two writers in my family and neither has commented, which makes me feel a little weird about it.

  • You’re not an upstart!!  You’ve been clever and witty for a long time!  You’re just getting recognized for it ; )

  • Glad you won. And if you want diet tips still, try not to pick a diet that you are only on for a few weeks. Try and find a healthy way of eating for life. My hausband doesn’t eat sugar except very special occassions, and fruit juice is actuallly a no-no since you drink far more juice than you would eat pieces of fruit. Juice contains lots of sugar. Don’t eat refined carbohydrates, only complex and of course, lots of veggies. Never eat after 7 or 8 if you can, (did you know that Sumo wrestlers actually eat late at night to put on weight?) since digestion slows in the evening. And if you must satisfy that sugar or salt craving, treat yourself a small piece of something rather than go around eating more of the things you don’t really want to eat. Hope that helps.

  • Yes, I am a teacher. I teach English and Literature to 7th and 8th graders (as well as music, computers and directing the choir). I read The Theologian’s Cafe site every once in a while and when I saw Teacher in your name I figured I’d subscribe :)

    Thanks for the comment!

  • I probably reward myself going out to eat.. :)

At least you get some positive feeling of winning.. That’s a good thing.. heh :)

  • I don’t remember a Quacker Steak, where was it located?

My request would be a week in State College and dinner at the Tavern (Cajun Blackened Chicken…MMM)!

  • HAHAHA!!!!!!!!

    MY COOKIES!!!!!!!!

    Mr. Blue

  • Okay teacherperson…thanks A LOT.  After reading your comment I was compelled to buy a bag of chips and diet coke and enjoy!!  :)

My reward?  I would have to say a massage!

  • I voted, though I only know you through your most excellent (and obviously well-tutored!) AP Lang students. Congrats on the win!

  • So sorry!!!  I didn’t intentionally ignore your request, only I haven’t become addicted to checking everyone’s sites yet:)  I would love to have lunch with you Friday, but I have a class at 1:25pm….I am considering skipping it though, because we can’t be penalized due to the “religious holiday.”  So, I will try to make up my mind by tomorrow afternoon and let you know.
