  • Hee-Haw

How many of you remember Hee-Haw?  I recall many a Saturday night in my jammies watching Hee-Haw with my brother.  “Gloom, despair, and agony on me. Deep, dark depression, excessive misery. If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all (oooh-oooh!). Gloom, despair, and agony on me-eee!”    “You’ll never hear one of us repeating gossip. So you’d better be sure and listen close the first time!”  Minnie Pearl and her price tag hat–so fun!

I have a feeling if I watched it now, I might not find it so wonderful.

In one month from today, The King of Peach Fuzz will be over. Eek! We don’t have a single set painted, Hunter’s and Wit’s costumes aren’t finished, and we haven’t even blocked some of the songs yet! In other words, things are right on schedule.

If you ever wondered about life at my house, you can see something which my boys long to pass off as school hours HERE.

I liked Flyboys. It was clean (no sex, very little language), with some violence. (It’s a war, remember!) When we get to WW I in history, I’ll have all the kids watch it, although Little Miss will not care and will wander off.  It was amazing to see how they flew: open cockpits, machine guns stuck in front of them, filthy-faced.  Wow.

  • Flyboys, eh?  Sounds good!  Oh, and thanks for all your help with all those pesky apps essays.  I guess it all paid off!  Yay!

  • Yeah, we need to work on the KOPF…and it’s even better when the lead girl isn’t even going to be there tomorrow.

  • Should I admit to not only remembering that show, but I also know the song you *sang*.

  • Ah, that brings back memories of Saturday nights as well.  That show was certainly funny in its own corny way – I always loved when Junior Samples could not read his lines off the cue cards.  Do you think that was great acting or that his timing was just that bad?!?!  Seriously, there was some fantastic musical talent on that show.  In particular, they had the market cornered when it came to banjo players.  Roy Clark wasn’t too bad, but Grandpa Jones stole the show when they had him perform.  And there always seemed to be others on the show who could play some form of stringed instrument at the drop of a hat – banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, you name it.

    Thanks for the reminder!

  • Mary,

    M. Crichton’s book NEXT (I hope I spelled all of that correctly, lol) is interesting. It takes a while to get into because he spends so much time laying ground work and there are several threads he is bringing together. It’s about genetics and the human genome. Very interesting and a little more graphic than some of his previous work.

Ok, it’s late. God bless you. Oh I never watched Hee Haw, but I did like Minnie Pearl.

    Night!

  • oops. better get started on my Old Bessie costume… my courtier one was pretty much pre-made.

  • “Boys will Play”–oh yes, except we tend to have more sword play and bows and arrows.  Their older brother gave them boxing gloves, and once I told them they couldn’t pound each other in the head, they lost interest.

  • I’ve taken pride in the fact that I’ve never commented on my own site…Anywho, no, I found them on Hannah C’s Myspace, and I thought, “Wow…now these are for Josh!”

  • I remember HeeHaw. Makes me want to go watch an episode or 2. lol

I’ll have to remember Flyboys. I may be strange, but I like war movies.

  • Oh my goodness, I’m totally in love with Daniel Craig as the new and best Bond.  I’ve never been one for the blonde hair/blue eyes thing… but his eyes are to die for.

  • I do remember HeeHaw. I haven’t thought about that show in many years. Thank you for the memories :)

I also wanted to thank you for your kind words on my blog about my son. I really appreciate your prayers and well wishes. Thankfully, he is doing much better now. We are counting our blessings.

  • As Megan would blithely say “take comfort — it’ll all have to get done somehow, so it will!” (Her favorite thing to tell me right around Christmas when I’m a crazy girl: finishing school, learning dances, attending Christmas concerts and parties, wrapping presents, and trying to enjoy the season. Somehow, I don’t always appreciate it!)

How did this morning go? Another pear today?
    –K

  • I must say I enjoyed the videos, but I am shocked, shocked to see that your homeschool is not a wheapons-free zone. (How were they using the hairspray as a propellant, the video didn’t show that?)   (My kids shot potatoes out of a piece of PVC pipe hooked to an air compressor.  I didn’t like it much.)

  • I was never allowed to watch HEE-HAW– too racy at times. I preferred the Brady Bunch!

  • HI-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I!!!! I’ve been a hermit & haven’t been doing much here at Xanga. (even though blogging is a rather hermit-like activity, isn’t it??) We’re recovering from the “snotties” and my ear infection is much better today, but I didn’t feel like doing anything for a few days.  blah!

I loved the song from Hee-Haw, but, we weren’t allowed to watch it much as kids, so I’ve only seen bits and pieces of a few episodes.  I did think the little I saw was pretty funny back then, but, have seen one since & saw some of the raunchy humor I “missed” — not surprising, though!  Some of our family members liked to immitat the “announcer” guy with one hand to their ear, holding a “mic” in the other, and talking in a deep voice about something silly.

Boy, OH, boy!!  I can tell your boys are ALL “boy”!!!  That’s so funny!  Did they actually use hairspray to shoot those snow-bombs at that poor, innocent, by-standing snowman??  Oh, speaking of “boy” things, I found out, when I returned from my trip, that my girls actually like “Bibleman”!  It was on sale at our Christian bookstore, and they picked one up…….. they LOVED it!!  How surprising! My daughters, the “Anne-of-Green-Gables-dress-up-like-princesses-everyday girls”, like SuperHeroes???

    gotta go! bye!!

  • I loved HeeHaw as a child.  But I do agree, today it’s not so appealing.  I hope all is well with you and you have a great upcoming weekend!!

  • Yes, I’ve been praying and will remember you this weekend.

  • hope the weekend is great!

  • I remember watching Hee-Haw on Saturday nights too…well I remember that we watched it (dad loved the show), but I don’t really remember any of the skits.  Although, I do remember that the guy from Andy Griffith (dad loved that show too) was on it, the mechanic.  Oh and Mini Pearl, the price tag hat lady…once I made a Mini Pearl hat to watch the show with my dad.  Wow your post is bring back a lot of memories for me.  We used to watch the Satler Brothers on Saturday night too, I think it came on after Hee-Haw.

  • Keep pressing on. Be encouraged. I haven’t done any stitching on my big project since before we left.

The only advantage I have is that I don’t usually have to revise (unless I count wrong).

    Have a good day!

  • Oh, yeah.  I remember Hee-Haw!  LOL.  We still sing those two songs on appropriate occasions.

I want to do another play!  I was assistant director for Tom Sawyer a few years ago, but haven’t had the opportunity to do it again.  I really think I could love that!

The snowman war looks like a wonderful learning experience to me!  You mean you don’t count that as school?

  • Oh my goodness! We love the videos. My kids got a kick out of that!! That was great. I loved the Aqua Net can! Talk about memories!! LOL..

RYC: I did send my email addy to you. Thanks so much.

  • RYC: No, I’m happy to say that my husband stayed home last night with me.

  • Prayers flying your way this weekend!

  • Mary,

How goes your book writing? I haven’t written anything for a while. I need to.

    God bless you!

    C.

  • When I saw the Aqua Net I thought, “Oh no.”  But that was rather impressive.  My trio will love watching these videos.  I enjoyed your HUGE yard!  How’d you get that much space?  Envidia.

  • I remember Hee Haw.  I have also watched it recently on CMT and I’ll admit, I liked it.

I want to see Flyboys, glad to hear you liked it.  I haven’t heard anyone else say anything about it.

  • thanks for teaching at the retreat!!! ;)

    oreos to the many comments…

  • We will be doing Core 3–someday! Core 1&2 may end up taking two years anyway.

Reading through my catalogue–thinking of books I want to look at when I go to my most local homeschool conference next weekend.

    Blessings,
    Karen
