  • Strike!

Today the kids and I went bowling with a group from church. I bowled the best I ever did in my life. I’d tell you my score, but I honestly don’t know what it was–145 maybe?  Every time I threw the ball, it seemed to end in a strike or spare.  Flutemom38 was a good friend to rejoice with me, even though I beat her excellent score of 120.

We continue to have mild weather, and I got to take a four mile walk today, another treat!  Walking is so enjoyable. I’m sure I don’t get maximum benefit because I don’t keep to a quick enough pace. But, it’s wonderful nonetheless. What would a “good” walking pace be? I do three miles an hour or thereabouts.

Tomorrow we are not having school as two of my children are at sleepovers and a third has a friend over tonight.  Let’s all sleep in!  With that in mind, I am planning to stay up late and read. (Such a departure from my usual routine. HA!)

This weekend, I might go skiing. Yes, only I would wait until its been 60 degrees all week and then head to the Poconos to ski, but it still might happen. I haven’t skied since 1988. If I break anything, I just pray it is not anything on my right leg. If it is, how would I drive?  Actually, I’ve never broken a bone. Have you? When was it? Do tell! Do tell!

EDIT–I totally forgot! I broke my toe last summer!

  • Fortunately, I’ve never broken a bone. I’ll be praying for the safety of your bones, too =)

  • RYC: The cup circle is a good idea.

I dislocated my elbow a few weeks before my wedding by being thrown by a horse (an outing my then-fiance surprised me with). The cast came off just before the wedding!

I broke my right little toe a week before we made a 400-mile move, and I had to drive the car since my husband was driving the moving truck. It took a long time to get there because I had to keep stopping due to the discomfort. Not fun!

I hope you don’t break anything! Have a great time!

  • Many.  First a broken toe at about 8.  All the bones in my right foot.(drove a motorcycle out in front of a car at 13).  Six ribs at 15 playing football.  Finger while moving a railroad car at 26.  Two more ribs at 30 playing basketball.  And while SKIING at 40 fell and chipped the bone on the top of my shoulder and had to have rotator surgery at 48.  Two more ribs at 46 throwing something heavy from the back of a pickup and it caught my coat pocket and it took me with it.   My dad said I was an active child.  Have fun in the snow.  Mr. M.

  • Hey Mary, what does it mean to ‘boost’ something on xanga? You mentioned that in your comment on my post today. Sounds like a good thing though! And thank you for your (once again) encouraging comments! Always a blessing. I just went back and read my post, and I was encouraged too!!!!! The Lord is so good!

Sounds like you’ve a fun wekend ahead, and please don’t break anything now………you’ve got a great record going! I also have never broken a bone (that I know of). I might have broken some toes, or rather, ‘Pete’ broke them when he stepped on them (he’s’ one of our horses). But I can’t be sure, cuz I never got them x-rayed or anything. I did bite my tongue nearly all the way off when I was 5 years old though, and had to have it sewed back on on my kitchen table (my dad’s a doctor, and did it himself). I also punctured my eardrum, and ran into a shopping cart and got several stitches under my right eye…………my 5th year of life was very eventful indeed!

I always wanted to have a broken bone though, and my friend Avery and I made casts up in the loft of our garage with plaster of paris……we made a real mess. I tried to ride a bike with my fake cast on and my arm in a sling that afternoon, and ended up loosing my balance and smacking my head into a rock wall cuz I was trying to ride my bike with only one arm!!!!!!! Got a nice goose-egg sized bump.

What a DOOfuss I was. Oh well. Thankfully, the number of my days was longer than that, and the Lord let me live through my childhood!!!!!! God bless, Becky :)

  • I just got off the phone with my sister (about a 1 hour conversation!) and I’ve got to get back to painting before my paint brush dries out, so I gotta make this quick!!  You’re walk sounds great! I think 3 mph is good, 2 is average and 4 is really good, so I think you got more benefit than you think!  I broke (chipped) my nose whild playing softball and my baby toes have each been broken, one from a large bottle of cold cream dropping on my bare toe from about chest level (hard floor, too! ouch!) and the other (this one’s very unique!) when praying for a (ahem!) larger woman who got overwhelmed and dropped to her knees without warning….. right on my toe! Can you say “CRUNCH”!! That last one took forever to heal!!

    Gotta go paint!

  • Be careful skiing.. I have never had a desire to do that. =)

  • Some people are age golfers, I’m an age bowler!

On our last day in day State College (while also living with you) I broke my coccyx.  I fell down a wet floor of stairs at work.  It was not a fun 12 hour drive to Myrtle Beach, SC the next day, but David’s red neck pillow paired as a donut help make it a little easier.  Incidently, because of the fall my former employer hired a lawyer, he thought I did it on purpose (since it was my last day) and was going to sue.  Some people are so paranoid.

  • Broke my right wrist climbing unto a table while wearing rollerskates when I was in second grade!  I really enjoy your posts.  You are encouraging.  I always leave your site with a smile.  Blessings to you!

  • Hey sorry about double post….computer told me it didn’t post….

Hope you have a blessed Thursday.

  • No I’ve never broken a bone, thank goodness!!  I’m such a wuss that I don’t think I’d take it well if I did.    Good for you with your walking!!!  I absolutely LOVE to bowl, just can’t find anyone to bowl with.  My hubby goes now and then to be nice.  Sorry for all the run-on sentences, LOL.  Have a great day!!!

  • I’m not adventurous to break a bone. I’m probably spastic enough to do something stupid like run into a wall-or door and break a nose…but never have. Thank the Lord!!!

Also, you should NEVER EVER head to a ski resort with the biggest concern being how will you drive home with a broken leg!!! NOT GOOD!! (LOL)

I have been on the same book for so long now, that I’d probably have to re-read the last two chapters to remember whats going on. I hate that. I used to be a two books in a weekend type of girl. Now, I’m seven loads of clothes/an oil change and a mowed lawn type of girl. (sigh)

    Have a good day!!

PS. RYC: Ummmmm…for me your question was a no brainer- I’d MUCH rather look like Daphne but have Velma’s brain. :)

  • I broke my hand during college.  Nick and I just started dating.  Nick brought some of us from BBC to a CBF retreat at good old camp Mantowagon in 1994.  Someone (not Nick) plowed into me during a touch football game.  I broke my left hand and rotated my pinky.  I had to go home and see an orthopedic surgeon.  I am left handed, so I needed a lot of help for the rest of the semester.

  • I haven’t broken anything, just sprained and dislocated. I’m still trying to take it easy on my ankle. I was thankful it wasn’t my right ankle when I fell because I couldn’t drive then. I am glad that I am not the only one who thinks like that, lol.
I think that three miles per hour is great. I would think it would be beneficial to you, physically as well as mentally.

    Take care and God bless.

  • I’ve never broken a bone, but sprained and torn ligaments have been a big problem. I can’t remember how many times I’ve sprained my ankles… 4 or 5 times maybe between left and right? Maybe more? That was mostly in high school. Then I tore my ACL twice in college (same knee). In elementary school I did manage to help my neighbor break her arm though. Her twin brother and I accidentally flipped my swing set by swinging too high and she didn’t make it off in time.

  • Bowling is fun. I’m a miserable player, but it’s still fun. Any points I make I make out of pure luck.

Oooh, skiing sounds fun. I’ve never gone skiing before, but I have broken a bone. I leaned out of a window too far when I was standing on one of my toys and fell and broke my arm, or so the story goes. I’m not sure I’m getting this all right since it was when I was three or four and I can’t remember it at all. I remember is my parents telling me that I was being naughty about something and then my arm turned black and blue and they realized my arm was broken which was why I’d been naughty about whatever it was since I didn’t want to use my arm, and my daddy felt badly about it.

    Love ya lotses!

  • I broke my kneecap ice skating.  It was the left leg, but I still couldn’t drive–the dumb thing had to be straight out in front of me.  Talk about obnoxiously in the way.  So don’t do that, okay?    Have a good time!

  • I’ve broken my right elbow – 2nd grade – sliding down a hill of snow/ice. Ended up having to have surgury to have pins put in it – still am somewhat ambidexterous as a result. Other than that, I’ve sprained my left ankle numerous times.

Love your posts – they usually make me laugh – as do the comments. Thanks.

  • I have always heard that even a pleasant stroll is beneficial physically and mentally.  I think any time you get up and move you’re doing a good thing.  Have never broken a bone for which I am very grateful.  I met flutemom through your site.  Hopefully I’ll have a chance to go over to her site again soon.  Hope your week is going well!

  • I’ve never broken any bones. Never had stitches, either. Although I did get staples after my c-sections. I used to live near the Poconos when I was growing up & first married– but I’ve never down-hilled skiied. I have gone cross-country skiing & liked that. Have fun!

  • Mary,

I’m a terrible bowler. LOL. My average is 18. TERRIBLE.

Lord willing, I’m working on my saws this evening. I’ve been awfully busy for the last week and I’m ready for a break. So, if anything turns out good night, I will post pictures. God bless you. Enjoy your skiing.

  • I always knew the laundry was alive.  I just knew it!  We only do laundry once a week around here, too.  Actually CeanBounter gets it going early Saturday morning.  What a guy!

  • I remember your broken toe last summer!  I broke my toe several summers ago when a three pound can of coffee fell out of the back of the car onto my bare toe.  Fortunately it was sandal weather.  I think I broke a finger once when Prima was little.  I was dancing with her and intended to twirl her under my arm but she didn’t release my middle finger.  That thing was weak and hurt for a three months at least.  Other than that, I broke my ankle when Sextus was 9 months old on the pillow at the bottom of the stairs.  (I wrote about it.)  I pray you do just fine skiing.  You’ve been more recently than me.

About the walking, the new thing is to walk slower or, depending on the article you read, intersperse periods of fast walking, (5 minutes or so), with slower walking.

I took bowling in college and my top score was 120, I think.  Congratulations!

Thanks for your encouraging comment.  I  very much appreciate hearing it.

  • I broke my right leg when I was five.  We were playing “Who can jump from the highest step?” By golly, I won! :)

  • Considering there is a major snowstorm predicted for that area you should have a lot of cushion if you fall, but I will pray! I am glad we are headed west, not east! Be sure to check http://www.accuweather.com before you go– They are predicting 12-18 inches in the east part of PA tomorrow!! If you fall try not to brace yourself with your hands or you will get a “buckle fracture” which is what Ghosty got both times.

  • If you get a chance go look up the cover of Lisa Samson’s book, Straight Up, on Amazon…it fascinates me for some reason when I find books that used the same stock digital images. Not the first time I’ve run across this, lol!

  • The woman on the cover is the same as the book you’re reading now, isn’t it? Imagined London? If not they’re remarkably similar, aren’t they?

  • Ugh!! I just burned my cookies!! They were mint-chocolate chip ones, too!! That smells worse than regular ones…… well, I may as well tell you what made me lose track of the time (they weren’t done yet, and I needed to check on them in a couple minutes…. forgot!!):  I was writing a story in your honor!  Well….. I guess somebody already had the idea, and I just kinda copied off of their idea, but, while I was telling you about my cookies, this story started up in my head: (I could have written more, but, SHEESH!, I gotta get to bed!!)

If You Give a Teacher a Cookie

If you give a Teacher a cookie,

She’s going to want a cup of tea.

And if you give her a cup of tea,

She’s going to want a good book to go with it.

While she’s trying to eat, drink and read at the same time,

She may spill tea on her sweats and…..

Want to get a hot bubble bath.

After she gets her hot bubble bath,

She’ll want to stay warm with a blanket.

And if you give her a blanket to keep warm with,

She’s gonna wanna get into bed.

While she’s in bed, snuggling with her blanket,

She may get too hot and…….

    Need a drink of water.

While she’s in the kitchen getting a drink of water,

She may see the cookie plate there and

    Want another cookie.

If you give her another cookie,

She’ll give you a gold star and send a note home to your mother telling her how good you are!

    So, by ALL MEANS…….

    Give a Teacher a cookie!!!

  • …. forgot to say:  Hope you like your story! Enjoy!  :)

  • Broken shoulder due to a an unfortunate run-in with a semi.  I also chipped my knee cap when I was in junior high.  Nice job with the bowling score.  I had one game like that, but usually it’s a big deal for me to break 100!  Ken said that things are looking good in your area for a bunch of snow.  Lucky you!

  • Just my heart ;) I’m a terrible bowler.

  • Just my ego. Amazingly though, it seems to recover overnight. I’m a terrible bowler.

  • Enjoy your weekend!

  • ooo im going bowling tonight.. and ice skating.  ill see if i can beat your score : P   and i emailed you my address….

    love

  • I’ve never broken anything.

I didn’t bring “that” project with me–just a little one that I take traveling. I’ll really need to work hard on the other one when I get home, or I’ll never catch up with you. I’m still really enjoying my vacation–not ready to go home yet.

Did you get lots of writing done?
    Blessings,
    Karen

  • I hope you have a fantastic weekend!!!!

  • Congrats on your bowling score. I’ve only ever broken the 100 barrier once. I think that the only other person I dated, outside of Snincr, was bothered by this. But, he was a 300 bowler and my high score was 97 at that time. Now that I think about it, that was probably one of God’s hints that we weren’t meant to be.

  • 36 comments?!  Bowling?  Cool shoes.

  • You’ve been tagged by me. And this time you are going to do it. Got it? Good.

  • I can’t comprehend that you don’t know what your bowling score was.  Some numbers should be locked in your head forever (e.g. social security number, anniversary, bowling score).

  • *sigh* Alright….I guess I’ll give you forty…
