  • The New, the Cool, and the Anxious

I was going to call this entry, “Master Card Is Going to Call Me,” but they did this afternoon, which blew that option.  Why would I have been expecting this call?  In addition to those plane tickets, I went out yesterday and bought a new laptop!  TGD and I had been kicking around the idea for a few months, but for some reason, yesterday was the big day!  I’m now the proud owner of an HP Pavilion dv6000 with Windows Vista, the newest OS.  Woo for me!

For those of you who think more like me, it’s really pretty, all shiny black and silver, and it weighs 6.1 pounds, which is pretty light for a laptop, or so I’m told.  It also came with a tiny remote control (for all my music and DVD needs!) and those cool earphones which just stick in the ear.  They keep falling out of my ears.  Currently, I’m importing CDs while I type this entry and making good use of those black bits of nonsense.

Another fun laptop bonus–new fonts!  I really like this one:

    It looks just like
what I’d like my handwriting to look like.
It’s called Segoe Print, if that means anything to anyone.

    (and who knows if
this font will show up on your machine!)

Those astute readers among you may be saying, “Hmm. We’ve heard about the new (laptop) and the cool (laptop thingies). But, what about the anxious?  I just feel anxious. Setting up a computer takes forever, it seems.  However, it is entirely possible that my stomach isn’t feeling anxiety; it might just be gearing up for the stomach flu.  On a note of praise, all fevers here have subsided, I believe, leaving only coughs and nose misery in their wake.  LibbyK had a fever for eight days, so I’m glad to bid that bug farewell. (Or, fare-poorly, as I hope no one else catches it.)

Since I have my new laptop, I have no excuse in the world to postpone the writing of the novel. Unless, of course, you can come up with some good ones for me?

  • First of all, you CAN set up a computer, and second, you are writing without someone forcing you. You are way ahead of me.

  • Absolutely you can come visit me!! If we time it right, I might even be able to put you up. Do let me know more details when you’ve planned them… :)

  • hey dontcha worry bout it.. ive got plenty of time, and i havnt been writing a whole lot recently because of homework n all that. and you’re pretty high up on my friend’s list so dont worry bout that either!

  • You are like the most cool teacher person ever!
Congrats on the new toy. Can’t wait to see what you both produce!

  • I bought a laptop back at the end of the summer and I absolutely love it!  The only time my daughter is allowed to touch it is if we are not at home…otherwise it is hands off…Mom’s toy!  I hope you have lots and lots of fun with it!  Blessings.  Susan

  • Computer sounds great!  The hubby surprised me with my laptop for my birthday this summer.  I told him he never ceases to amaze me cause I wasn’t expecting that at all.  I read your entry about sending the late Christmas cards.  How hysterical….You must be quite a character to think of something like that!  I’m sure everybody got quite a chuckle when it came.  Have a good week!

  • Congrats on the laptop!

  • Congrats on the new laptop!  It sounds VERY pretty :)

RYC:  When your blondie decides to color her hair whip me off a quick email and I will have Amanda warn her of the dangers………although it will probably do no good!  lol

Have fun playing with your new toy!

  • WOW sounds nifty!  Get writing! :)

  • A new laptop–nice.  But I understand about the anxiety.  We bought a new printer last week, and I was reminded how much I dislike having to set these things up.  But I’d be willing to undergo the stress for a nice laptop.

  • New laptops = amazing.    Unfortunately, now you have no excuse not to write.

Although, I have a laptop and still find plenty of ways to procrastinate.  So….?

I have an HP too….. totally love it, though mine does not have Vista.  I have heard mixed reviews about it, so I’m going to hold off as long as possible on getting a new one.  Of course, my laptop is just a year and a half old and I am getting ready to double the harddrive space, so it should last me a good long time.

    Happy writing!

  • Yeah, let’s just hope now that your book gets somewhere…

  • Well, the NEO only weighs 2 pounds and is very durable.  It also has hundreds of hours of power on 3 AA batteries (and my laptop gets a 15 minute battery life any more…)  Also, I am notoriously distracted by just about everything on my laptop (like blogging… and email… and solitaire… and looking at my reflection in the blank screen…) and the NEO is only a word processor with a calculator and a thesaurus.  So, unless I get a hankering to start adding some numbers or something, I should be set in the “zero distractions” area.  Also, because the NEO weighs so little and is so durable, I will be more likely to go to the park or other places to write (which can be helpful to get “unblocked”).  I’ve always been hesitant to do that with my laptop because if anything goes wrong with that (like a sudden rainstorm…) it’s (1) majorly expensive to fix and (2) I’ve just put my only computer out of commission.  So, the NEO costs only slightly more than what getting a new battery for my laptop would have; so I opted for the NEO…  and I am pretty happy that I did.

[And that was pretty rambling.  Hope you can make some sense out of it.]

  • Moving up the tech ladder, aren’t you.  I have the zv6000 laptop.  My mom wants to get a new computer and I am trying to talk her into a laptop.  We can get  20% discount on hp.  Wish I would have known you were going to buy one.

  • interesting thoughts about lent etc…  1 Tim 4.1-5…

  • …and I like the profile picture… :)

  • Windows Vista, huh? I’m still operating on a desktop with Me & a laptop with 2000! I never even made it to XP. Maybe I’ll just skip over that one. lol

  • ooo a party… I’m down with that for sure.  cept I think my bro is getting married on the 6th of june so that weekend isn’t optimal, but I could prolly make a sunday party (cuz like.. once a wedding is over.. it’s over hahaha.. the bride n groom are off and all that).  but yea, ill keep my schedule open for sure cuz yall’s parties are amazing.

    love,

    daniel

  • I doubt he’d be getting married on a Wednesday, but he’s a strange fellow haha.  In any case, I’ll get back to you about this (and look at a calendar this time!), hopefully tonight.

  • Setting up a computer doesn’t have to take forever! : D

Of course, if you haven’t done it too often before, setting it up quickly might lead to “complications.”

I was shocked to hear about that flu business. Nine days? Thankfully the worst I’ve gotten the past few weeks was a nasty 102-degree fever. However, after four cans of Ginger Ale, two hot baths, some stir fry and tons of sleep I was able to completely recover! Medication is so old-school.

  • What a fun toy!  My next computer is going to be a laptop.  I have an older version, but it is fast becoming outdated.  Continue to get better.

  • Ach, well that’s Vista for you. Not that I have anything against it per se, I’m a PC-not-Mac user myself. But what can you expect with a brand new edition that hasn’t had all the bugs taken out?

As for transferring files and whatknot, you might want to invest in one of these

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2749417&sku=T555-1108

You can find smaller or larger ones if you want. Amazing though, a couple of months ago those things cost $80. Anyway, they’re like the new floppy drive. Except faster, much larger, smaller, and more convenient.

  • Congratulations on the new equipment.  I have prayed for you to have the right motivation.
