  • Bad Drivers Lead to Crashes

You may have thought I was speaking of automobiles, but, thankfully, I’m speaking of computers.  For the past two months, my computer has been freezing up indiscriminately. Sometimes it will go days and not do it; sometimes it does it three times in an hour.  I’ve replaced two power supplies, scanned the hard drive, blah, blah, blah.  It’s more than likely “a bad driver.”   I think the whole driver/crash/information superhighway/navigate thing is a bit funny.  Who thought to link driving and being on the computer?

My new bio picture is a dry-erase marker portrait of me done by Little Miss, age 7.  I thought it was a good likeness.  I especially like my nose.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments. I feel like a movie star or something–forty-three comments? Wild!

This weekend, I hope to tackle the sewing of Hunter’s King of Peach Fuzz costumes.  The “royal clothes” are from this pattern. I copied the colors fairly closely, except I wanted black boots.  Pity they didn’t have a pattern for the crown. I’ll have to think of something for that.

Do you have a catalog or two which gets snatched from the mailbox and then is the recipient of many hours of drooling and wishing and even actual purchasing?  For me, that catalog comes from The Wallaroo Hat Company. I do love hats! This year, I think I’d like to get a nice, spring jacket and then get a hat to match it.  I have a jacket, but it’s more the “camping and bike riding” variety instead of the “go to church and wear it with a skirt” model.

What catalogs set your heart to pounding?

  • Great picture from Little Miss!  I love the new cheery pattern, too!  Oooo! What a kingly outfit!  Looks like a lot of fun to make & even more to wear!!

Happy/Good Friday to you, too! Nah, no big plans for the weekend.  I’m going to make cookies with my girls as soon as I finish writing to you! We never did get around to making them on V-Day, so we’re making heart-shaped shortbread cookies with sprinkles!  I’m hoping my Dad will meet me for lunch so we can exchange an outfit he bought for F.’s (4 y.o.) b-day way back in Jan. (wrong size!).

I hope you get to go out on Saturday! Where will you pick? Is it for dinner or something on the wild side, like dinner AND a movie!??;P  But, I must counsel against getting the flu!! It’s really not any fun at all and can be quite nasty! ;)

    Have a great weekend!!

  • Hammacher Schlemmer.. haha just kidding: toooo expensive, and mostly worthless. 43 is pretty wild… and all those eprops!!

  • God bless you! How do you like New Moon?

  • Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh costume production…been there, done that.  I find it all very nerve racking, but with a drama queen in the house…often necessary.  I hate to admit how boring I am, but the Yankee Candle catalog makes me happy!  :)   I also live vicariously through my daughter who still loves the American Girl catalog!  I hope all goes well with the costume.  Blessings.  Susan

  • Nice nose. Looks like something you’d find on a stomach??? (think belly-button) lol Yes, I’ve done my share of costumes being involved with our co-op’s dramas the past few years (the one in PA that DramaQueen2 & KatiaFelonia belong to). I’m going to look into your hat catalog! I love hats! But I don’t have many, my hair poofs out too much under them. I guess I devour homeschool catalogs the most, but I do like to browse through country decor ones, too. Haven’t gotten any in a long time since I never order anything!

  • Don’t let the computer smell your fear!

I have some baking catalogs that are dog-eared and drooled on. Someday I better have a kitchen the size of an ark. Who needs a bedroom or bathroom — I think I’d be content with a kitchen and a library. :)

  • Great picture!!  One of my favorites is the BBC America Shop catalog…all of those great DVDs such as Pride & Prejudice.

  • That’s an excellent costume, and very Fur-ish I might add.;p Hopefully Kim’s misfortunes aren’t contagious….Do we really have to have all our lines memorized by Thursday?!:O

  • Mary,

RYC: I’m looking forward to the third book in the series as well. I love to read. One of my favorite things to do is go to the bookstore. Silly, I know.

God bless you and have an excellent weekend.

  • I know exactly how you feel- as I just finished placing an order for a new harddrive for my laptop. :( I’m slowly nursing along the old HD so that I can back up my stuff…..of course this is like getting insurance AFTER an accident!!! *sigh*

    The costume is cute…..

Your DH (not HD for harddrive- but DH for dear hubby) is so sweet to create a scavenger hunt on V-day! WOW…mine would be completely clueless. :(

  • Computers can really be frustrating!!!!!

Thanks for praying for the Ladies Retreat!

  • CBD catalog and Brylane Kitchen catalog!  Happy sewing!

    :)

  • I have been struggling over which pic of myself to put on my site, but I am now inspired to get out the dry erase markers and create a self-portrait.  Loved your bio pic.  Sorry about all the computer problems.  They’re great when they work, pure misery when they’re temperamental.  Have a great weekend!

  • Computers were supposed to make our lives eaiser!  LOL!  Costumes…Oh how fun!

  • It’s all MiniMom’s fault.  Discovered your blog via a comment you left on her’s.  Was sort of intrigued by what I found here.

  • I can sympathize with the computer freezes. The desktop (the computer I mainly do “social things” and Excelsior at) does that to me on a rather irregular schedule . . . it got better when I switched to Firefox, but then it came back. (Just please don’t tell avaricewrex that I haven’t run my virus software in a while . . . )

Unfortunately, my plea for mercy comes more from trouble then from thankfulness . . . check your email. It’s a bit complicated.

  • Computers are wonderful – when they work! Those hats are nice – I wish I could wear hats, but they just don’t seem to sit right. I love catalogs with organizing items.

  • Ya know what? I’ am so proud to tell you that YES I DID KNOW THAT!!! (re: James Buchanan and PA)

I’m even more proud to tell you that my kiddos could have told you that too! :)

  • The Scholastic Book catalogs and the little barnes and Noble “mysteries new and coming soon” 3 page brochure that they hand out in the mystery section set my breathing in heavy mode!

PS- I am a HUGE hat person.  I usually get myself a new hat for my birthday.  I love them.  I often wear one to church or to the theater.

  • Actually, with regard to the story I posted, my focus was not so much on the sadness of it all, but the action of that one brave heroic young man.   I realized after I read your comment that I should have been more clear about that!  :)

  • RYC: Ah, you are right.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t quick enough…I think that I start being the “on call” nursery worker as soon as next week!

  • They have pretty amazing crowns for sale somewhere, both my boys got one as an award while in high school.  I’m going to hazard a guess and say they were purchased at a party store.  We have a “Let’s Party” store here in the area.. Halloween stores are another good place, if storage weren’t a problem, the post Halloween sales would afford great costume and prop accessories. If you don’t have access to a Let’s Party store, you could make something with a little gold posterboard and it migh be even more authentic if the poster board circle were banded on the bottom by the right size of embriodery hoop.  Do they even still sell the metal embroidery hoops?
