A Day Off
Yesterday, I had a low-grade fever, upset stomach, headache, and great fatigue. This morning, I was lying in bed debating whether or not I should pretend that today’s stomach bubbles were worthy of not getting up when TGD said, “Nathan’s sick.” Uh-oh. Then, I heard what sounded like whimpering. Upon investigation, I discovered LibbyK with a fever and upset stomach. TGD then informed me that Grinner was downstairs on the couch not feeling well. Mother to the rescue! Wit, who woke Saturday morning, paid obeisance to the porcelain throne, and has had a fever and general misery ever since, is also among the fallen.I have run out of couches for the contagious.
Little Miss is feeling fine and was eager to start her Saxon Math 2 book today. (She finished Math 1 on Friday. We had started it in K.) The lepers are all in the living room watching a History Channel movie on building a Viking longboat. It has nothing to do with the Revolutionary War, which we are still studying, but it does serve to educate and entertain.
Tonight, I have Bible study. I’m hopeful I won’t fall prey to anything worse than what I have now and will not have to cancel my part (leading the study and driving two other ladies) at the last minute.
And, I want to say, “What have I done to deserve such wonderful people in my life?” Thank you so much for all your advice, suggestions, and general good-wishes on the book writing. Health permitting, I shall be hard at work soon!Medical science has determined that attitude influences susceptibility to disease, especially infection by bacterial agents. People who, by their nature, are cheerful and upbeat are less prone to
illness than are those who are consistently grumpy malcontents.
Thus, the surly bird gets the germ.

feel better soon!!!
Sickness is going around! Hope you feel better.
alas and alack.. all my natureg0d, healing powers are of no avail! there is a bit of sickness in my area too :-/ and ive been rushing about telling everyone my powers would heal them soon… unfortunately pretend powers only look real when health coincides with my lofty claims. ANYWAY, good luck with your healing, talk to you later!
Oh, Mary, my heart goes out to you! So sorry you are all so sick! We will miss Nathan greatly, but will pray that he and all the others get well much sooner than expected! You are ALL in our thoughts and prayers!
Be praying for you! I remember those times when my kids were little! So, I can imagine what you are going through.
I don’t know if your medical science quote is true, or just a clever pun, but I loved it anyway!
How are you liking the Dave Barry book? I haven’t seen this one. Let us know what you think.
Thanks for the comment. I guess I was thinking it was something like that too. Sorry to hear you’ve been hit like that.
Ick. Feel better soon prayers are coming your way!
Oh, my, I hope you are all better very soon.
Been there. Done that. lol!…. or maybe, ugh! I’m so sorry to hear you’re sickies!! We are so thankful to be feeling better now, but it’s been a long journey! I pray it will not be so long for you all. I think it’s almost better to have you all sick at the same time…..get it over with quicker. Ours has been one agonizing victim at a time….. just about the time you think it’s over, GOTCHA!!, it strikes yet another!!
I verily appreciated (a little Jane Austen, there!) your “Sunday Hello!” yesterday, but kept getting distracted by chores, children, and (let’s see, what else begins with “ch”?) CHOCOLATE!!! (unfortunately, that last one is untrue!;P) I’m trying to put my kitchen back together and only have a couple more piles of things to get put away, hung, or organized.
Were you able to work on your book today while everyone else…(gulp!)…. rested?
There were 4 birds who had a routine of coming to my dorm room window at 5:30 every morning while i was at camp. It was a nice alarm clock, though…
I hope you all feel better!
Ickiness! I hope you guys feel better soon. It’s terrible for everyone to be sick all at once, although I like being sick with my sister instead of sick on my own. Misery loves company. However, the past three consecutive times she’s come down with something first and I get it a day later. She’s so generous and thoughtful.
I’m excited about you working on the book. Funness!!
sorry your family is feeling sick…that is going around here lately, too
ryc (From a while ago)…I was told by a physician that mineral oil in lotions isn’t good b/c it creates a barrier and the good stuff doesn’t get in. Then a manicurist friend told me the same thing at Christmas. It could be wrong, but i’ve found myself checking lotions!
I hope your are all feeling better! Thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it!
Hey! Thanks for the comment! I’ll be praying for your family! Ugh, that doesn’t sound fun at all. We’ve have been shockingly fortunate in that we have so far escaped any stomach bugs or colds this winter….it’s never any fun being sick.
Hmm, yeah, giving up pleasure reading would be a sacrifice…but I sort of wanted to do something that might reform certain bad habits or something instead of just being a sacrifice….like giving up IM or xanga or something, except I’m never on either of those too much anyway…I’m thinking maybe instead of giving something up, I’ll do something…like extra devotionals or something…we’ll see.
Anyway, I was just noticing, since I’m trying to fix this on my xanga, you have the little boxes for the comments, so people can read them easier. Can you tell me how you did that? Megan D. gave me a code to try, but it hasn’t worked so far. Hmm…
I hope you’re all feeling much better soon!

Hope you and your family are better soon. It is no fun being sick.
Hope you all are well soon. How is the Barry book?
Huh, I still don’t get it….where in the header section? Under the “input your own header hmtl”? I didn’t realize this would be so confusing when I started it!
But thanks for trying to help!
~Laura A.
Ugh! That doesn’t sound like a day off at all. Hope that you are all feeling much, much better by now!
I’ve been meaning to comment for days to tell you that Kayla LOVED hearing you guys sing to her on her b-day. She was grinning from ear to ear! Thank you! Hope you survive living in pukey-land!
Mary, I am so sorry to hear that you all are sick. Yuck! Hope the gang all recovers quickly and that your bible study went well. I don’t know how you do it!!! Lead bible studies, write a book, homeschool, Wow!
Just thought I’d say hi and let you know I am still reading your blog!!!
Guitar Guy, my #1 and only son, is on his fourth or fifth snow removal job this a m. So much snow, so little time.
Keep your chin up!
ha…you musnt let hunter give any excuses! my contest waits for no broken computer!
Since I get sick, does that mean that I am not as upbeat as I thought I was????
Get well soon! (and all of your family)
Happy Valentine’s Day to you too!!
I must say, you are the coolest- who else could take a family full of sick people and describe it so wittily it almost sounds fun?! Your perspective on life is refreshing.
