  • Can You Believe How Col…uh…Dry It Is?

So, who else is tired of hearing about the cold? I’m just as guilty as everyone else in my chatter and whining.  This must stop!  Instead, everyone should comment on his or her dry skin or share the miraculous ways they have for keeping it soft in this cold…uh, season of the year.

My window-pane is starred with frost,
The world is bitter cold to-night,
The moon is cruel, and the wind
Is like a two-edged sword to smite.

God pity all the homeless ones,
The beggars pacing to and fro,
God pity all the poor to-night
Who walk the lamp-lit streets of snow.

(That’s from Sara Teasdale. Yes, I know I posted it before, but it’s so appropriate for this dry-skin time.)

Pray for poor GhostFroggy_123. She broke her wrist skiing, which is miserable enough. Now, they plan to operate and put in three pins this Friday!  We are sad.

TGD is at a meeting tonight at church, leaving me free to eat any of the amazing snacks I have (thumbprint cookies with vanilla icing, blueberry pie, or ice cream) and read a book.  Even if he were here, I suppose I’d eat and read a book.  I’m so predictable.

Which attribute of God do you find the most wonderful?  I usually list creativity as near the top of my list.  God created all things, and then He gave some of that creativity to humans. Amazing! Of course, after I read the wise responses you will undoubtedly write, I might change my answer.

  • Oh..today I found our back scratcher  and boy did it feel good! My back was/is really dry!

God…His Grace and Faithfulness, because I feel that these are qualities I long for in my life more and more.

  • Infinite complexity.

  • And as far as the cold goes – I work outside at Shoprite, on top of a hill, so I don’t want to hear it.

  • since im the natureg0d.. my skin is always perfectly undry hahaha

and i thank God for being forgiving everyday.

  • that should be ‘every day’ and i havnt read any of jasper fforde’s nursery stories.. just the first 2.5 of his thursday next books (which reminds me to be mad at myself because i forgot to check the book back out of the library and finish it over break!).

  • My little Jakey has such dry skin!! It’s HORRIBLE. I wish I had a cute poem to share about itchy, flaky dry skin…..but I don’t. (LOL)

Keep the lotion out and a pot of water on the stove simmering, it helps. :)

  • DRYNESS spells not enough EFA’s in your system.  Go to your health food store and buy an EFA supplement for your daily intake.  Another option is taking flax seed oil capsules (horse pills)–I took 3 a day for 1 month and my “dry eye” symptoms were gone, along with a dry, flaky scalp.  A very high quality (but expensive) brand is Shaklee, BUT I have bought whatever the health store had and been pleased, also.  Cold-expressed oil.  In the fridge section.  (The EFA supplement may not be in the fridge section, but the flax seed oil should be–if not, it is not processed correctly and will not work well).

The attribute of God that amazes me most for today and most days is His graciousness and mercy towards me.  I am amazed that He would even choose to look at a horrible, sinful thing as me.

    And so–you need a flaky poem =)

There once was a man from Calcutta

Who flaked in his bed on Wamsutta

    The fleas who abode

    With the massive shed-load

Bit him from his head to his futta.

Thank you for your letter–I got it  yesterday and am so glad you enjoyed your cards and pen:).  I also enjoyed mine–it did seem to die quickly, but maybe that was because I was using it so much!

  • if i was a good girl i wouldnt have broken it in the first place! ;)
scented lotion seems to go a long and nice-smelling way when it comes to dryness…

  • I would have to say an appreciation of beauty and pleasure.  And I think that this is one of His most amazing gifts to us as well.  He created brains that create art of all varietys using sounds, colors and words that just dazzel and provoke and bring a million sensations aside from the experience of the eyes and ears.  He could have made us see in black and white or use sound only for basic communication.  I think that our love of and capacity for creating and appreciating art reflect God’s own love of beauty and his desire to share the gifts of beauty and creative expression with us.

He created taste buds that can appreciate the richness of a full red wine, the subtlty of dark chocolate, the nuttiness of a strong coffee, the saltiness of nuts or pickles, the spice of some exotic food or the tang of a pineapple all in different places.  I think that the design of our taste buds shows God’s enormous enjoyment of our enjoyment and an appreciation for pleasure.

Speaking of coffeee, I haven’t had any yet, so I probably did not say that very well.  Did it make sense?

  • Good thoughts, ElizabethDNB, and I would echo them, as well, and include the following:

Mercy – do we really “get” that one? How incredible it is that God has mercy on such puny, arrogant, evil-hearted worms as us?

Grace – Wow!! I really don’t deserve to have such a break or expression of love & help as this, but He gave it to me anyway because He didn’t want to see me fall completely apart!

Patience – sort of like His mercy, but, (insert strongest expression of amazement you know!!), He’s tolerant!! So unlike me.

  • I am right there with you on the cold!  And the dry skin–it’s never been this bad in our house!  My 5 y/o has been waking me up at night b/c he’s itching so bad that he can’t sleep.  i’ve been coating him in baby lotion 2-3 times a day.  he doesn’t like it, but it’s helping!

and my hands are starting to crack…well, they were.  but I got some equate oatmeal lotion and it’s working wonders!  I also pulled out my long-forgotten paraffin tub and coated my hands with lotion, then dipped them into the hot wax a few times…boy did that help!

you want to make sure that you’re not using lotion with mineral oil in it.

  • Great question! The attribute that I find most wonderful is grace and forgiveness given freely and undeservedly. I feel like I so often fail. There’s a line in one of my favorite songs “How many times have I broken Your heart, but still You forgive if only I ask” and that line gets me every time because it’s so true. That’s what I find the most amazing about God.

  • Wow…talk about a hard question…how about His love for His children that so frequently do what they know is exactly opposite of what they should do.

  • Grace and power; sovereignty and mercy. Not a single attribute, I know, but the combination of them is what astounds me.

Thanks for the verse – of course, I knew it well, but I hadn’t thought of it in awhile. It helps muchly.

And, just for you (and until my next post!):

    Love & mittens,
    -K

  • I don’t think there is a most wonderful attribute of God, unless it’s being God, but I love the fact that He’s beautiful.

That’s such a pretty poem by Sara Teasdale!

You hit the nail on the head with Sam. He doesn’t know what he wants, he’s so bothersomely indecisive! (I wonder if bothersomely is a word. . . hehe) If only I knew how to make that work for my advantage. At least I’m learning how so in the far distant future maybe it won’t be so hard.

    Love ya!

  • I would have to say that the thing that I sit in awe of when it comes to God is His longsuffering toward me.

I found this lotion that is awesome on dry skin. It’s Gold Bond Ultimate Healing with Aloe. It’s great.

RYC: I don’t generally get upset about pictures not turning out, but for some reason I really wanted some good ones of my hubby’s party. It just seemed like everything went wrong that day. =) .. Seems like the story of my life.. ha ha..

  • I supoose the attribute that has always struck me the most is God’s mercy toward the entire world. Since the whole world deserves nothing but constant misery and suffering, and would, without God’s restraining hand, immediately sink into a state of evil and degeneration before which its current state would pale in comparison, it’s always amazed me that God has been merciful enough to allow there to be anything good or pleasant at all left in it.

  • Gracious and sovereign.  He is loving and gracious and has the power to carry it through for us.  Therefore, we can trust Him completely. Romans 8:38-39

  • I have terribly dry skin & I need to buy a humidifier for this house! Drink lots of milk & water, use cocoa & shea butter lotion or oatmeal lotion. For my hands, I use udderbalm! I’ll never be total dry-skin free, but it does help. If your water is chlorinated, it makes your skin drier when you shower– I’ve read you can get showerhead filters for this.

  • Oh, yea– God’s attributes: He is wonderful & to only choose one is difficult, but I guess I would have to say His grace– which is all sufficient for even me.

  • OH MY!!!! What a great dry-skin poem!!! LOL!

  • So how dry is it?  Is it the kind of dry that makes your hair stand on end when you try to brush it, and makes sparks fly off your fingers when you touch the doorknob?

  • “His love endures forever.”  No matter what I do (or don’t do), I am safe in the cup of His loving hand.

  • She has my sympathy :-/ today we discussed how gothic literary villains were written in order that the author could connect with sexually troubled young people. Fun stuff. And the comparisons drawn from Frankenstein were terrible! I used to love that book! I pray that her accusations are incorrect, but the examples she gave made sense :(

PS This comment was too dreary! I am a happy person lol

  • I
    hate
    dry skin
    in the cold.
    But dry skin’s something
that Bag Balm has always controlled.

  • *sighs* Well I think that I’ll just add to the mass amounts of comments that you already have and say that nobody has a leg to stand on when it comes to who has worse skin. I sooooo totally dominate…*feels all-powerful*
