Snow Kidding?
Well, well. We finally have a coating of the white stuff. Almost all the grass is covered, so we must have about two inches. I’m glad it’s Wednesday, our lightest day of school. Plus, our piano teacher called and canceled lessons this morning, giving the kids more time to play.
Little Miss ran a fever all day Monday and Tuesday, but today, she is fine. This made her quite happy, as she was able to don her snow garb and shiver along with the rest of them. ArtWit (which should be The_Art_Of_Wit, but I hate to type those underscores) and Grinner (my new name for Michael) made a ramp which they have been snowboarding over for quite some time. The snowman didn’t work out so well. When they weren’t outside, the kiddos have been working on writing stories. Libby’s is a treasure story she started last year. Grinner’s is about hawk women and a magic picture, and ArtWit’s is some saga involving swords, jewels, and adventure. He’s been working on the characters and pictures and general plot for months.
This entry seems dull, so here’s our pseudo-Christmas picture, taken last Sunday. Just so you know who is who in this happy Xanga family…

I’ve gotten some wonderful suggestions for improving the play, and I hope to work even more on it today. If God brings it to mind, please pray for the auditions on Thursday night starting at 7:00.
Requests
1. That the auditions would be fun and go well.
2. That no feelings would be hurt when parts are assigned.
3. That there would be unity among bkroeker, and myself as to whom to cast in each part.
Were you ever in a play? Do you like theater?

The play sounds like a lot of fun, although auditions were always the worst part for me. But drama, as a whole, brings so much excitement to life!
(I acted in four plays when I was in 4th thru 8th grade. I directed six plays from 2000 – 2005.)
Good luck with try-outs!
(P.S. And you have a beautiful family.)
What a group of cuties!
The poem was written by Howard Nemerov who was named poet laureate in 1988. He also won the Pulitzer, The National book award and the Bollingen prize (not all in one day though).
He was indeed in the air force during World War II. He actaully served first in the Canadian Royal air Force and then in the U.S.. What’s up with that? I know he was born in NY, maybe he lived close to the border or something. although he went to Harvard, so clearly was in the country. Maybe it was an air force thing? I don’t know all that much about him, but I bet he has a really interesting history.
RYC: My favorite is the lasagna with the salad and the breadsticks……….I can eat SO many breadsticks! I have never had the dip……..might have to try it next time!
I remember playing Thumper in a 3rd grade production of Bambi – cool outfit sown by my mother, great times had by all. Does this count as “being in a play”?
Eh, never actually been in a play, and I’ve only seen one or two. I quite enjoyed seeing Daniel (awkward subtitle omitted) at the name-escapes-me. Sight and Sound Theatre? A group which specializes in large-scale productions of Biblically-based plays.
ACK! There was a hideous semicolon error in my post! (Now fixed.) Did you not notice, faithful readers, or were you too kind to mention it?
Oh, don’t EVEN get me started about my years of theatre! Now I must settle for the world being my stage…I’ve actually mellowed over the years and am less of a Drama Queen, although in the right mood – watch out! I am encouraging my kids to take their talents to the stage. I wish I could have brought my Christopher for your auditions. We are sorely lacking “theatre” here in Atchison, Kansas! We are about 40 minutes from Kansas City, so I’m considering some workshops for my kids there. Man, blah, blah, blah…you just had to ask!
Your family photo is beautiful!
Have a great day!
I won’t see your errors, if you won’t see mine!
What a lovely family you have!! Cute, cute kids!!
Oh, I just saw your comment on mine! Yes, the book is good. So far, he has tackled this subject in a very humorous way. He is getting into the history of sugar at this point in the book (didn’t get a chance last night to read further) and it’s quite eye-opening! In the first chapter, he describes how his own “addiction” started as a child during their family summer trips to Crystal Lake and how he would sneak nickles from his mother’s change purse to support his “grape pop habit”. He says, “I began to feel a secret kinship with the town drunk.” ha! ha!! I love the humor he throws in!
(I started this comment several hours ago & just got back to it! Oy vay!! Ain’t that just the way things go!…. isn’t that a song er somethin’?)
Was that question in your post at 3 or 4 o’clock today? I don’t remember it! Yes, I’ve been in some plays. One in Jr. High (“Up the Down Staircase”), a VERY small part, and lots of church Christmas & Easter productions, but, mainly I’ve been in & written short skits & “commercials” for my church.
I love theater, but, due to a babysitter shortage and lack of funds, I haven’t been in ages!!
It’s fun to see a picture of your whole family.
I want to read this King of Peach Fuzz, but I have no idea where to go to read it. Is it posted online or are you going to send it to me? I’ll give you my e-mail address in a message just in case. . .
You got more snow then we did, we just have a dusting. I like the codenames you have chosen for your kids, they fit their personalities.
Is the book you’re reading about a homeschooling family that takes in a foster kid (or something like that)? We even got a dusting last night. Kayla was VERY excited. When we pulled up, she met us outside with her snowsuit on.
I’m not a big theater person, but I was in two school plays. We went to a dinner theater in FL that was pretty cool.
Never been in a play but have recently produced three of them in my garage! How’s that for weird!
Wow, what a good looking family! It’s weird to see your kids so big! Snow, what’s that??
We got a little dusting of snow Wednesday too, and it’s about two inches now. I enjoy looking forward to watching the kids discover it. We are all up here this week. I’m glad your girl is better and did pray for your auditions. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished I could be the director, and wondered about his/her casting decisions, but it’s easy to be a back seat driver. Have I been in plays? Oh My Goodness! I love being in plays!
How do I get to read the script? I love reading scripts too.
Yes, I participated in UIL One Act Play in high school. It was lots of fun! I would like to have pursued acting as a career but was too intimidated by my skin problems and bad teeth. Maybe if I had had them fixed earlier in life and had more encouragement I could be making as much money as Julia Roberts. My parents were way to practical! Have you ever heard that before? I think God has blessed you so much with your beautiful and smart family. Mary
I’m due May 9th, so we may have another birthday on the 8th. It would be convenient. I’m really hoping to go early though.
Mary,
I lover your picture! God bless you dear one.

I was in 4 musicals during high school: The Music Man, Hello Dolly!, Carousel, & Bring Back Birdie (terrible sequel to Bye, Bye Birdie). In 11th & 12th grade, I did class plays: Horror High & Up the Downstair Case. Since then, I’ve been involved in VBS skits (acting & directing) and directing dramas with The Learning Station. I missed it this year with KatiaFelonia & DramaQueen2.
Praying for you this evening!
I totally LOVE theater!!! In fact, tonight I called a guy who filmed my senior show, which was performed this summer. I waaaant a copy of that recording!!! So I just may be getting it Sunday! YESSSSS! Theater is amazing. Except when it gets toooo weird (a little weird is expected, but there IS such a thing as too much) and very exclusive, like the theater peops at AU. *sadness*
The Grinner? Sounds…intimidating.
How was the book on Islamic Women, incidentally?
Where did you get a word like flenser!
So, how did the auditions go?
