  • O, Cough, All Ye Faithful

That’s the song I requested we sing at church tonight. I’ve been coughing so much that my back hurts!  It’s a dry, annoying, tickly cough–pesky thing!  The Hunter also has something and has been raiding the Kleenex box quite regularly.

Who else watched It’s A Wonderful Life Saturday night?  Who cries every time?

The Tipping Point is such a fascinating book! If you enjoyed Gladwell’s Blink, I’m sure you will enjoy this one as well. He discusses fads, epidemics, and trends and why and how they start. One thing which fascinated me was this tidbit.  Think of all the people whose death would be genuinely distressing.  How many are on your list? Chances are, if you are honest, the list has about 12 people. (I suppose those with a large number of children and siblings might have a list a bit larger.)  Numerous people at different times and stages and for different purposes have researched and have show that 12 is about the maximum number of close relationships a person can manage.  What does this have to do with trends and epidemics?  Well, you’ll just have to read the book!

Tomorrow, Nathan has his last concert of the year, this one at a nursing home. TGD gives his final exam Monday night, and the kids and I plan to watch Ice Age 2.  Tuesday night is Sibling Night, and the kids are thinking of the games and food they want to have to go along with the present exchange.

If you are keeping up with the Pride and Prejudice reading, you should be through chapter 30. By this Friday, you should try to be through chapter 45.

What surprises or treats do you have for your family or friends or for yourself this Monday?  Make it a fun day!

  • I have Monday of so I plan to do much needed housework.  Also I will visit a friend who is on bed rest (she’s due the same week I am) and is going head crazy.  Hope you feel better soon!

  • I didn’t watch It’s A Wonderful Life Saturday night, but I do cry every time. It’s in my top ten.

  • That’s interesting about the 12 close relationships…

  • Hmmm…I don’t have any plans exactly, which is nice!  I might try to do something to get ready for Christmas…bake, clean, or wrap presents, or I may just hang out with Jersey Junior and have a lazy day.

  • All this week I am going to try and find all the things I bought and stashed away from snooping eyes.  Wish me luck.  I have to start wrapping at some point.  I went shopping yesterday, I purchased a drill combo set and a compound miter saw for Brad.  Emily and I wrapped his gifts in the parking lot of Dollar General after buying brown shipping paper and duct tape (anti-snoop proofing).  Brad thinks the saw is a karaoke machine for the kids. Hopefully he will be pleasantly surprized.  I have to get ready for Monday date afternoon. I wonder where he will take me to lunch today???

  • I watched the end of Wonderful Life and yes I cried, but I also cried at the end of Elf…  I am blaming the hormones.

  • Any surprises are still a surprise..to me! I need to go shopping.

  • i did not watch It’s a Wonderful Life this weekend.  .  .  but i do seem to cry every time i watch it.  lol

i am HOPING to finish my christmas cards today.  (yes, i know i am really late!)   not sure what other fun i will have today.

  • (raised hand) Yes….. I admit to crying at that movie…. I’m a blubber-head about that stuff. Lately, however, that’s not at all usual! Can you say, pair-ee-men-uh-pawz???

Your description of that book is quite interesting! I’m a sucker for studies and statistics and how the human psyche works. Isn’t it cool that 12 was the number of disciples Jesus chose and it’s also the number of the tribes of Israel! I think that’s quite ingenius of God to reinforce all our discoveries with things He’s already known about for a kajillion years!! HA!

I’m in chapter 35 of p&p and will be indulging in several more chapters today, if time permits.  I’m really enjoying it! I really like the book a lot more than the movies, even though the movies are great, too! I’ll write more later….. still nursing my hurt hand & it’s hard to type with this bandage around it……. rats!

Thank you for your greeting….. I will “message” you further!

  • i think your library shelves must have an amazing selection of books in them.  i have difficulty finding a time and place to read…how do you do it?   my kids seem to follow me everywhere i go to tell me things or show me things.  (and while it is a blessing to me that they want to do this, sometimes….i’d just like to read or something.  lol)  guess i should enjoy it while they are still in the home and not grown up and gone, i know, i know.

have a great day–i hope your cough is somewhat better?

  • I am so behind on my reading.  It is just a busy time of year….

  • My father made us watch It’s a Wonderful Life each year. I now cry if I’m forced to watch it. Does that count?

  • I don’t think I’ve ever seen the entire movie.  Is that enough to make anyone cry?  On Monday we’ll open presents, let the girls take a nap, and then spend the afternoon/evening with my aunt and uncle, cousins, and some friends.  I’m looking forward to eating and relaxing!  How on earth are you people finding the time to read so much???

  • I can totally empathize with the cough…yesterday, my chest was sore and I didn’t know why.  Later, I realized it was because of coughing so much last week!  (ugh!)

I always cry at It’s a Wonderful Life…I think we all want to know that our lives have purpose!
