  • Xanga Names

I’ve been pondering what everyone’s Xanga names mean and why you might have chosen them.  Some are pretty easy to determine (kristenloescher), but some aren’t so easy.

I chose mine because I’m a homeschooler, an online teacher, and an erstwhile college professor (okay–adjunct).   I just liked how “teacherperson” sounded.

    Who is she?
    Oh, she’s that teacher person.
    Oh, that’s right.

So, please, tell me what your name means and why you chose it. Even if you aren’t a “regular,” I’m still curious!

  • I’m a mom of five, absolutely hate math, but that happens to be the first 4 letters of my last name. Tends to throw people off, but I set them straight if they try to ask for help with their algebra.

  • Actually, I don’t know what made me pick this name. “Avarice” is of course greed. “Wrex” could just be a funny way of spelling w-r-e-c-k-s or a ploy off of the greek R-E-X which means “king” (duh, Oedipus Rex). Or actually, it could be a cool way of making it both of those! But I have no idea… Like you, I liked the name.

  • I stole my name from C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy, which I very much enjoyed reading.

  • We’re a family that had to move to Jersey.  Plus, we’re not very creative or clever!

  • KleineKatze, you undboutedly know(;p), means “Little Cat” in German. My name is Kat…And I’m small, according to certain standards such as….stature?

  • Ghostfroggy_123 is incredibly the most random thing you can imagine….unless you somehow tie “froggy” in with “croaker” or “kroeker.” wich wasn’t my original plan…

  • dont even ask me why i’m a Ghosty!

  • Well, I like the verse.  James 1:12.  Plus, it’s my name. Heehee!!  =)

  • Well, as I recall, certain persons nicknamed me “The Good Doctor” at some point (there is a debate going on right now on who this was – was it teacherperson, ladyjabez, rjdohner, or someone else…?).  Anyway, it was clear that my Xanga name should be something related to “The Good Doctor”.  Unfortunately, thegooddoctor and TGDJ were already taken – I was just slow at getting on the Xanga bandwagon.  So I had to settle for thegooddoctorj

  • r(robert)j(jessica)dohner.

  • That’s a fun question, maybe I should ask it on my site to see what kind of answers I get. Anyway, I picked LaDamedeShallot because on the spur of the moment a friend of mine persuaded me to get a xanga. We were at another friends house and my family actually didn’t have internet service at our own house yet, therefore I had to get this xanga on the spot or not at all. I wanted something pretty and Anne of Green Gables -ish, but I couldn’t think of a blessed thing. My friend suggested The Lady of Shalotte, which I immediately liked, but of course someone already had that. The alternative spelling The Lady of Shallot was taken, also. So my friend typed it in in French, and it worked, and I’ve been stuck with it ever since, lol! I like A_Tapestry_of_Words much much better. In fact, I’ve thought of changing my main site to that one, but I don’t want to loose all my posts. There the history of me, and I want to read them when I’m fifty. So, LaDamedeShallot it is.

  • My initials are KID and the numbers stand for June 8, 1996 the day I got married.

  • “Little Bird” is my daddy’s nickname for me!

  • um, because I didn’t put any creative thought into it and garilyn was already taken by an asian man.

  • I was setting up a site with the help of a young friend and I was pretty sure mamaglop wasn’t taken, plus, that is what the kids call my the “glop” I cook up to serve for dinner.  I explain it in my profile.

  • Hey, Faith is my name and cd are the rest of my initials!  Yes, my Birthday is today!  Thanks for the comment! :)

  • I go to church with EuroMom, MathMom and SouthInspiration. I chose Hinterlands, because I moved to well….the hinterlands. We live in the middle of nowhere. No one just “stumbles” upon us. A visit is a purposeful event for those who are brave enough to venture here. “

  • well, i think jimmyz_lil_sis pretty much explains itself :) and that’s a pretty interesting dream, and i have to say that i feel VERY honored to have been part of your dream :P

  • I take no offense to your question!  I am only 37 today! :)  My husband and I both graduated from K-State so we know Manhattan very well!  Have a great evening!

  • Someone once told me Theophani was the Greek origin of my actual name Stephanie…don’t know if I have it spelled anywhere near correctly…but it looked good to me.  33 WAS my age at the time I adopted that nickname.  Theophani (however it is spelled) means “the presence of God” I was told.  This person had researched the origins of names trying to name his daughter.

  • Jaypee is the phonetic spelling of my initials and 303, tacked on to steer clear of any other oddballs who would fell compelled to “spell out” their initials, comes from the caliber of my deer rifle which is a .303 British Enfield.

  • I am a flutist and I am a mom!

  • I thank Lord Byron for my name:

Words are things, and a small drop of ink

Falling like dew upon a thought, produces

That which makes thousands, perhaps millions think.

I wanted my writing to make people think. Young, idealistic and cliche, I know, but I like it anyway.

Glad things are going pretty well for you . . . I’m still praying! And, yes, I do like The Chosen quite a bit.

    –K. (the 12, 279 visitor)

  • My xanga name refers to John the Baptist’s prophecy that, though he (John) only baptized with water, Jesus would baptize us with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

On another topic, thanks for teaching AP courses to homeschoolers. Today I had two public school high school seniors here, who are friends of ours. We were looking at this bulletin board I’d made of college info (for my own 12th grader) . . . It showed specific AP courses accepted by our nearby state college, George Mason Univ. These public school girls would have 20 – 30 college credits if they did as well this year on their (many!) AP courses as they did in 11th grade. I was stunned to realize they will have paid for about half their college this way . . . by contrast, my homeschooled and private schooled 11th and 12th graders will not have had the opportunity to get this many . . . and we really need it, after exhausting our funds through homeschool and private school. (Homeschool is not really free, as it seems it should be.)

  • Hey, Happy Monday!

  • “a” & “j” are my 1st and middle name initials (Amy Jo) and “1965″ is the year I was brought into this world. I have another xanga site that is “mommajo12″ (my “creative outlet” site)– I’m a momma and used to go by “Jo” and 12 was how many children I wanted to have ….. didn’t make it there….. yet!! I’m 40 & only have 4, so I really have to get going!! ha! ha! j.k.!

ryc: do I still enjoy listening to Christian rap?? Yes, some, but I am not normally in that “mood” or frame of mind now that my nerves have been through pregnancy and childbirth 6 times since the age of 29!!!! But I do still find my feet start tapping and my head starts to bop when I hear a good Christian rap song. Don’t know what that means about me…. young at heart? really cool? or ….. still as immature as ever?? ;P lol!

  • Thaaaats the word I was looking for! Silly me, I hardly even know what “redundant” means….It merely popped into my head, so I used it!;p

  • I play the French horn, a brass instrument (although my horn is nickel silver) and piano, whose keys are made of ivory.  I also borrowed the name from Mr. DiCuirci and Dr. Colman’s trombone and piano duo also named Brass and Ivory.

  • Because that’s what I happened to be doing when I created my oft-neglected xanga.

  • Hi! Thanks for stopping by my site. Yes, I’d be very interested in talking with you about homeschooling issues. For starters, I’d love know if you can reccomend your favorite curriculum and tell me why it is your favorite.

As for my Xanga name, I have three girls and one little boy…and not a creative bone in my body to think of anything better. Ha!

    Have a blessed week.

    Sandi

  • Because Momma Bear and all varitations were taken, so I went with the boring first name and middle and last initials.

In answer to your question I do not celebrate Rosh Hashanah regularly or as it was intended, but we do have some awareness of and sometimes some celebration of Jewish Holidays.  We have several Jewish friends, some orthodox, and go to a church with a messianic ministry and I grew up in a family that takes the Jewish orgins of Christianity very seriously and respectfuly.  We have been know to have Sader dinners etc. although I myself am of Polish Catholic orgins.  We also live in a pretty diverse town with large Jewish and Muslim populations.  We actually live down the street from the most orthodox shul in town, which makes Friday and Saturday and Feast days really cool with all of the people walking there; the men in black hats with full beards and the women and children being so cared for as they are shepherded to safety across the street by lovingly protective husbands and fathers.

  • This is pretty easy…boys everywhere is my life.  I am the mom of four boys here, two in heaven and work at a boys home.  I tell my family all the time that I am Queen on the island of Testosterone.
