  • M NERD

Another day of rain, another headache. Alas!  At least they don’t last all day but come and go like Valkyries.  (Like the simile?) The book I’m currently reading has a graphic novel section that one of the characters in the book is supposedly writing. His main character is Duncan, a guy surprised to find himself in Dante’s Inferno.  My favorite bit is this:

Duncan:  Hell? That’s what the demon said, too. I thought…it was a metaphor or something.
Virgil: There are no metaphors in hell. Only similes.

Yesterday, I did something I rarely (never?) do. I turned on the TV and watched the evening news and Jeopardy.  I had a huge pile of ironing and thought it would help to pass the time. I was pleased to see that I was batting about 500 on Jeopardy questions, even after my long hiatus.

As to the title of this post, I discovered yesterday that the first letters of my children’s names spell M NERD.  I feel this is significant, but I’m not sure how so. What do you think?

  • i would LOVE some recipes. A crock pot would definitely be a good investment…

  • Could those initials stand for Math Nerd?

  • Nerd, do you think you’re the nerd for doing this or they’re the nerds.  In either case it’s untrue!

  • I would start with “When Christ and His Saints Slept” because it deals with what happened right after Henry 1′s death.  I have read about nine (?) of hers from this time period until the end of the the War of the Roses when Henry V11 stole the throne.  can you tell that I have very strong feelings of the Ricardian variety?!  Perhaps one of the reasons that I love this author is that she tells what many people (not the majority, I grant, but many) feel is the story of the real Richard.  But that is many books away.  Actually, if you are only ever going to read one of hers read “The Sunne In Splendor” which deals with the War of the Roses.

Gee!  Even on a comment I ramble on endlessly!

  • This tells me you need to have three more kids with initials A. T. and H. At minimum an A. child so you can say “AM NERD”.

  • I’m voting that it is short for math nerd.   Definitely significant!

Glad that someone is reading the graphic novel part of that book…I just couldn’t appreciate it.  Oh well.

  • i like to watch tv while i am ironing myself.  lol   if i find myself with a mountain of it or something, i like to watch a miniseries from the library or maybe a jane austen bbc dvd.  sewing projects are good in front of tv’s too!

hope your head feels better on this, another rainy day!  (excedrine?)  ;)

  • I was thinking Math Nerd too.  If you’re batting 500 on Jeopardy questions, you should try to get on the show at some point.  Just study up a bit and you’re good to go!

  • Although I really don’t have free time to be doing this sort of thing, I just noted that MNERD along with SELLERS ‘anagrams’ to “RENDER SMELLS” and a host of other anagrams at the following location:

I dare not say anything more!

  • The MNERD meaning seems obscure. However, you will note that if you REVERSE the letters, they spell DR. ENM, which obviously (according to Google) references Dr. ENM. Johnston of the Koyal Society of Medicine, well known for his work on Chronic Discoid Lupus. This is profound, and may have grave implications for the future. My advice is to have another child immediately.

  • I love Jeopardy and Ken Jennings is my hero. (I have an autographed picture from him: “Mrs. Mathis, please tell your students that learning pays.” LOL)

I’m not ignoring your book tag, just haven’t had time to sort it all out yet.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  • I like the simile.  You should name a pet “cuffy” or something  else that begins with “c” and insert him after the M so it becomes Mc NERD. Then you start a new eating establishment with a continuous running game of Jeopardy and televisions that are tuned to the History Channel or Discovery Network.  No colas are allowed; strawberry koolaid and Orange Nehi on tap though.

RYC:  Thanks for the prayers, I was amazed at how well he did last week. I know it was the prayer.  Please keep it up this week too, as the school is going to be more like it usually is this week.

  • Where are my manners??!!  Thanks very much for praying for us.  As I said before, it made the difference, I’m sure.  I think I’ll make a protected blog about it.  I’m trying to think what to name it, and wondering what names have already been used for xanga sites.  WE are praying for miracles…I thought of Ebenezer, but I always think of Schooge.  I thought of Pilgirm too……
