  • Welcome Home!

Libby has returned from camp, un-sunburned, fairly clean, and full of stories. One story she told made me angry. A girl in her cabin of seven girls (or so) was acting sad but wouldn’t say why.  One of the other girls went for a walk with her, and the sad girl explained that she received a letter/email from her parents saying they were divorcing and that when the girl got back, they’d be moving.  How shoddy is that?  I mean, really, parents. Don’t you think divorce is bad enough, but to send a note like that?

TGD and Nate safely arrived in Kentucky, and Nathan has been shooting this morning in the International BB Gun Competition. He takes his written test this afternoon. Even if he does poorly, at least he’s having fun.  Also, the hotel where they are staying is super nice–free nachos, soda, and popcorn! Amazing free breakfasts! Free internet! A pool and hot tub!  I wonder if I can get them to come home.

Yesterday, was a relaxing day. Remember, it was my “No-goals Friday”?  I did go to the Bookmobile, and I also burned and mailed out all the photo CDs of the AP picnic.  Then, I mowed the grass, which took three hours.  Other than the noise and my inability to find any earplugs, the part about mowing I dislike is playing Mower Kamakazi.  We’ve got about ten large pine trees in the yard. In order to mow around them, one must get the mower as close as possible and circle around the tree.  Being whapped and scraped by needles isn’t much fun.  While I was mowing, the boys invited about ten other boys over who swam, jumped on the trampoline, and ran around having fun.  It provided amusement during my mowing sojourn to watch their antics.

Yesterday also saw the purchase of a new stove.  The computer went out in our current stove, a $300 + repair.  Since the oven is 11 years old, it seemed wisest to spend a few hundred more and get a new one.  Sears was having a sale, so I got a decent deal on my new smooth top, five burner, hidden-element Kenmore range.  (I wonder if stove, oven, and range really are synonyms or if it’s just a PA thing…) EDIT–Now the oven is working again after three days of death. GAR!

I like the name Othniel Naavy Moontower. It’s a great name for something–not a real person, mind you–but some kind of character.

I’ve updated the other blog. I think I’ll just post a link when I do, in case you feel the desire to read there as well. So, if you see a link at the bottom of my Xanga, you’ll know what it is.   I think anyone can post comments there, whether they belong or not, unlike Xanga, but don’t feel obligated.

  • I’m glad Libby had a good time at camp!  As for your boys, even if there is free food and a hot tub, I think that they’ll be back.  Be sure to let us know how Nat does.

  • Protect those ears!  Chewing gum might work in a pinch.  I thought and thought about getting a smooth cooktop on my stove and decided to go with the familiar, because I have some cast iron pans.  I shouldn’t have been so chicken about trying something new, I guess, but it works well.

  • What is wrong with those parents!?!  What a horrible thing to do.  They ruined her week at camp, and didn’t have the decency to sit her down and explain in person.  Poor kid.  We need to be praying for her.

So your old stove is working again?  Are you going to cancel the purchase of the new one?
