Sunshine on My Forearms…
Ah, what a glorious day! It was finally warm again, warm enough for shorts and a sunburn on my arms. (I was wearing sunscreen, but I must not have applied it generously enough.) The pool was “officially” opened as TGD and I attached the ladder, and I vacuumed the pool. I had to chuckle at my original plans of purchasing a used pool and setting it up ourselves as TGD and I installed the ladder. We had two twelve inch paving stones to set in the ground to support the ladder. We fussed with them for a while, trying to get them level, and then we gave up and just installed the ladder unevenly. I can only imagine what sort of slanted, cockeyed job we would have done on a whole pool!
I got a book in the mail, Sheridan’s Nightingale, which is a biography of Elizabeth Linley, Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s first wife. Their story is fascinating and reads like an over-the-top romance novel. This summer, I’m planning to research their courtship and perhaps make that tale the basis for a book. If there is no book, then at least I will have learned a lot about late 18th century England!
I’m looking forward to the next few days of picnics. After church on Sunday, we go to Curwensville for a picnic at my mom’s. It’s so nice to relax and visit there. I’ll probably plant some flowers or weed something. Maybe I’ll just sit on the porch and watch the frogs in her pond. Here’s a picture of the pond from last summer. It’s just gorgeous!
The striped awning isn’t always there. The algae was getting high, so they put it up to cut down on some sun. They have about 25 huge koi (fish) and a bunch of frogs. Other than the backhoe which dug the initial hole, Mom and John made the whole thing by themselves. There is a three-tiered waterfall in the upper right-hand corner of the pond, but I don’t know if you can see it in the picture. Here’s a second picture just for fun!

What a fine pond they have!! We have one but its boring and round (but not a perfect circle–go figure!). All our fish died last year at the hands, or beak rather, of some crazy-big bird. So we dumped a bag full of fish in last weekend but i forget what kind they were! And we have frogs in our pond. I will be officially replying to your invitation sometime this week hopefully
Love,
daniel
it’s* (sorry!)

It’s always good to go home to Mom, no matter how old you get. Hope you have a great time…and hope you brought lots of bug spray!!!
Hope that you had a super time! Looks like quite the scenic place to be. I’m looking forward to going home to my mom’s sometime next week.
BEAUTIFUL pictures!
Beautiful garden…nice place to relax. Ok, now I want to see a picture of this pool of yours! Bet you lived in it yesterday and today! It was in the mid 90′s here….. TMK
Looks like a wonderful place to relax. I hope you had a great time!
It’s the middle of the night, and I am sleepless. However, I am not energetic enough to be productive. So I decided to re-visit Xanga after a sabbatical. Our school year will be winding down, and I hope to have some time to write again. I have a whopping four subscribers on my new site — my own fault, to be sure, for changing sites and then disappearing for a while. But I think it was a good decision for April and May, which have been rather wild. We will still be doing school until June 30 — a result of advanced courses and a heavy sports schedule. We just aren’t finished yet. But the load should steadily grow lighter.
I read with interest your comments on Jane Eyre. I really like the book and the story. I can relate to Jane Eyre. I am a lot like her, in some ways. Our circumstances can affect our outlook and our emotional landscape for long periods of time. That’s just part of being human. That’s what happened to her. She was a product of her life experiences, her natural temperament, and the decisions that she made in the face of challenges. So are we all.
There is a movie (mini-series) version of Jane Eyre that I really like. It’s a BBC production, and it’s not flashy or technically impressive. However, it is historically accurate, and the British accents are real. I appreciate the acting in it and the care with which the characters are thoughtfully developed. It was produced in 1983, and stars Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clark. You can see it by going to:

It’s fun to see the garden in the pictures above. I am finally planning mine, after moving 2 years ago. I have purchased materials and plants for my first project : a bird bath, lavender, artemesia, petunias, bricks. Rather simple. But the silvery artemesia will look lovely with the lavender. And the petunias will provide constant color without fuss. They are white with very pale pink touches, like the inside of a sea shell.
