  • It’s All Over in the Shouting  (Shouting Valley, that is!)

The play was a resounding, smashing, laugh-out-loud success! Friday night was technically good and very funny, but Saturday night, we had more fun.  Oh, the bloopers!  Props were missing and had to be brought onto stage in the middle of the scene (cleverly covered by the actors), lines were forgotten and uproarious ad-libbing went on, and everyone hammed it up, even the more reserved actors.  Oh, my. It was fun!

And, to top it all off, my dear friend Linda (who claims she is not creative) made me this shirt and had all the cast sign the back.  Could I have a better memento?

I would post some pictures from the play, but I don’t think it would be right to post pictures of other people’s kids on the Internet without their permission. But, I can post a picture of my own!  Here’s Nathan as the stylish Charles.

So, what do I do next? Write a play for next year, of course!

P.S.–Lest anyone think that I am disparaging the fine work of the author of Shouting Valley, I am not.  Her play was the catalyst for lots of fun!

  • Haha, that shirt is so funny!  Is it a pay back for the “Feline Pine” button?  Nathan looks quite strapping in his suit…glad the play went well!  Good luck on next year production!

  • wish I could have been there.

  • I absolutely loved the play… all aspects…   :)    Thanks for your work on it!!!

I think if you write a play, it should have some more “skepticism” in it (at least a little)… i.e., the changeover from entering bitter-rich-sneering-city-cynic to exiting God-loving,farm-loving,old-people-loving-happyheart should be a little more ‘nuanced’… or perhaps more reason could be shown for it…

but I realize that one of the reasons the play was the way it was written was to allow many people the opportunity to play some part, and with many actors comes less time for development of each character.   If I had to choose one or the other, for a church/homeschool play (few actors/lots of character development or many actors/littlecharacter development), I’d probably choose the former…

    Thanks again!!

  • Oops, I meant to say, I’d choose the latter… i.e. I think you made the right choice.

  • I love the shirt!  Now that it is over, I am glad that you are satisfied with the result.  It looked like everyone was having fun.

  • You are just too cute, Mrs. Sellers. The play sounded like great fun!

  • Yeah, I guess SP wouldn’t work then.;p You can post some pics of me on your site if you want, it’s fine w/ me, and I’d kind of like to see them too!

  • Congrats!!  I’m glad to hear that it went so well.  :)

  • I was in a play of Little Women a couple years ago, and at one point the girl playing Beth was supposed to read me (Amy) a letter, however it was misplaced, so when I asked her to read it she did the only thing she could think of, she said “No, I can’t read it because I’ve misplaced it, but I will quote it for you because I have it memorized”, and then she commenced to do so in a perfectly serious and genuine tone of voice. I lost it. I cracked up until my stomach hurt, but ironically I managed to do my scene of making my will without laughing, which I had always struggled with in the rehearsals.

    Congratulations on the play!
